Capt. Mitch was Captain Delta when I was a kid, doing cartoon intros on KOVR Channel 13 in Sacramento. I met him in the mid-1960's when he appeared at a Van's Market on Mission Avenue at Whitney Avenue.
Cap'n Mitch started his Bay Ares television career with the "Meet Mr. Mitch" talk/variety show that aired on Saturday afternoons at 5:00 on the now defunct KNEW Channel 32, which went off the air in 2/'70.
Oh how I would love to have a time machine and go back to simpler times. I'm going back to Sacto for the Holidays. I'm sure it's changed more in the last 2 years.
I used to envy those who had the privilege of having channel 31.
I lived in San Jose, and was lucky enough to have channel 40...Until around 1985, then, for some reason; the cable company we subscribed to, "canceled" a few channels, and channel 40 was one of them.
No more Speed Racer, no more Ultra-man, no more Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors...(The latter went to TV 44).
Holy cow! Cap 'n' Mitch? He's a legend according to my older sister. My mom and dad along with my older sister went on and on about him during a family dinner, and about when she actually played "pow!"
She didn't win anything though. Oh well. At least I can tell her about this cool video post.
The Marvel Super heroes show originally aired on KCRA 3 back in 66 and Spiderman was aired on KOVR 13 (ABC). It was the first time they had been seen in the Sac area since then. Do you remember Soild Gold Heroes? Commando Cody, Captain America serials from the 40"s that 31 used to show.
Yeah KTXL 40 only showed it for 1 year as I recall, then it was gone. I do remember KBHK 44 showing it too. we could pick it up on the UHF rotor antenna on a good day.
Yep, the60skid, I not only remember him on KOVR 13, I was actually on the show once with two of my cousins. I remember watching it the next morning before school (El Dorado School--53rd & J street) and older kids I didn't even know asking me if that was me on Cap'n Delta that morning and how did I get to school so fast. Ha ha.
I haven't lived in Sacto since '82. I bet it's pretty different now.
I used to work (part time) at Esoteric Records when I was in high school back when they were on Alhambra Blvd across from McKinley Park then again after high school when they moved to Broadway right down the street from Tower. I thought they were nuts for doing that but it never, EVER affected he business negatively.
Yeah. I went home last Christmas and went over there. I also looked where the old Alhambra theater use to be. A Safeway now. The fountain and Lamps are still there in the parking lot.
@the60sKid Those were added just a few years ago to look like the old ones. Since they have a newer Safeway close by, they should tear that one down and rebuild the theater!

Back in the early 80's, I lived in San Jose, and watched TV 40...All of a sudden, Speed Racer, Flipper, and Gentle Ben comes to mind.
Whatever happened to Channel 31? That channel had some good programming, too. Unfortunately, if you lived in San Jose as I had, 31 wasn't available.

@WAIATA4U 31 went to CBS.

Sure do, it was called Murphy's Solid Gold
Heroes...Murphy was a dog puppet that
hosted those '60s Marvel cartoon re-runs.
Commando Cody & Captain America
re-runs were on Saturdays...I used to
watch Big Time Wrestling with Hank
Renner on Saturday afternoons mostly.
This was back in 1975 & the next year I
believe channel 31 became all Spanish.
DRbiohazard 3 years ago
Yup. Speed Racer and Marineboy too. I left in 76.

I used to see Marine Boy on KBHK 44 in
'71...that was always my favorite of the
Japanese cartoons.

WPTF-TV 28 in Raleigh, NC had TV Pow as part of it's kid's show Barney's Army around the same time. They must have franchised this to stations.
