@hstclass43 i went ther the other month, i only saw pendos an voyagers there, if you go to the 1st of these 3 videos an go to the brigde at the end of it you can get a good view of the tiltin action :P
I'd love to have a ride in the cab of the Virgin Pendolino,Just to have to dream about it I suppose SIGH!! :-) Great video by the way,5*. What speed are we doing at this bit?Regards
Regards recent comments, the train driver is NOT obligated to slow down by the warning system; instead he is generally allowed to use his own judgement.
As I understand it, the UK is the only place in the world where this is the case - signalling in other countries is restrictive (slow to a certain speed for a caution signal, etc) rather than permissive.
I'm guessing this is mainly because without in-cab signalling it would be impossible for a driver to know what signal was coming next...
The "Bing" in this video mean "Clear to proceed" so driver does not have to take any action, if there was a double yellow, he would have to slow it to a safe speed to be slow enough to stop at a red without distressing passengers.
What are the very high-pitched tones (like at 0:09-0:10 sec)-- notice them in the other cab video, too. Some sort of indication about train, or signals (just guessing!)??
That noise at 0:09 is the AWS (Automatic Warning System) Witch tell the driver witch aspect the signal is showing, if the signal is showing a green aspect, the driver hears the AWS Bing sound (like at 0:09) but does not have to take any action, if the aspect is Yellow, Double Yellow or Red, the driver hears a continuose beep sound and has to press the AWS Reset button, if the driver does not press the button within 2.6 seconds, the emergency brakes are automaticaly applied
and the train will not power up again untill it has come to a complete standstill, this sound also sounds when there is a temp speed resriction. the beeping sound at 0:13 is the vigilance, the driver has to keep his foot on a pedel throughout the jouney, if the foot is taken off the pedel or the driver does not use the throttle/brake for a certain amount of time, that sound comes on and the driver has to realese his foot off the pedal and push it back down again
I would think that you are required to take different actions according to different signal aspects... like slow to certain speeds with yellow or double yellow, or stop with red? Is red always an "emergency stop" situation or can you just come to a regular stop (whatever that is, LOL!)?? Btw, thanks for the info, -very- interesting!!
If there is a Red signal, the signal before it would be yellow and the one before the yellow would be double yellow.
First, when the driver sees the double yellow, he will apply the brakes abit, then there will be the yellow and he may realese the brakes or put them on more depending on the speed the train was doing, by then the train would be slow enough to stop at the red signal without distressing the passengers braking very hard.
not that its in this video but how do you know when a station is coming up and you need to start stopping?

Just a question, whats the distance between each signal?

Mr "gner125" is always cocky and is best ignored. He's a kid himself (he is 14) and often enters cabs so I don't see how he can moan at others!

Either way still a great video & you were very lucky to be inside there :-)
How did you manage to get in there then?
Best I've managed is a couple of cab shots in 86, 87's & 90's at Wolverhampton station. You know the REAL Virgin Trains ;-)
