  • Sarasate, Genio Inmortal. Gloria de España.

  • I was like... (O.O) that would take me and others 3 months to learn, and it would play for 3 min IF it were to be accomplished... and again I was like (T_T)

It is one of the very best ( if not THE best) performances of this piece!

  • AMAZING! I LOVED HER!

  • She melted my heart.

    ~

  • I dislike the tune, but I appreciate the talent.

  • Que Dios te proteja la vista, porque el oido ya lo has perdido. :)

God keep you in sight, because you've already lost hearing. :)

  • @alvarogimenez1 lmao thanks xD It just isn't to my taste is all, I prefer my music a little less.. well, happy I suppose lol.

  • visit us at classical chops to watch more video interviews with Midori!

  • simply...fantastic

  • GM-level

  • rofl scary but I do like that she shows some personality instead of a robot like some I see.

  • A little anecdote - In 1986 came her now legendary performance at Tanglewood, during which she broke two E strings, first her own and then the concertmaster's after she borrowed his instrument. She finished playing the associate concertmaster's violin. Leonard Bernstein, the conductor, knelt before her in awe. The next day the New York Times front page carried this headline: "Girl, 14, Conquers Tanglewood with 3 Violins."

  • Her performance is really incredible.

  • what an interesting looking human... hehe

  • I hope midori will come here in Philippines >_<.....

  • What kind of violin is she using here?

  • @ThousandRoseBurial Spain is in Europe. lol.

  • @lolturtle13 i know, its part of southern Europe, but the styles of composition in Spain were much more richer and diverse in comparison to Europe's monotonous compositional style, spanish composers give som much more, OLE!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm so glad i didn't pick the violin. Look at all the shifting she does!

  • This performance brought a tear to my eye. Midori plays with so much emotion, and puts her entire heart and soul into the performance. I've played in an orchestra with her as the soloist a few years ago in my city's youth orchestra, and she's one of my favorite violinists, let alone musician, in the world. Bravo

  • I just came across a 1904 recording of Sarasate himself playing Zapateado! Youtube the following "sarasate plays sarasate zapateado"

  • The phrase from 1:53 to 1:58 is most powerful to me.. it's all quit then WOOOOMPFFF!

  • No one plays this as good as her!

  • 3:01 omg at those harmonics

  • 3 people think they're better than Midori

  • i love it when she smiled

  • why is it that i never seen midori in web performing videos during 2011???

  • I love Midori !

  • amazing! I really admire her, and i'm talking about her in my english violin talk ^^ But wow seriously, I'll never play that good

  • BRAVO x1000

  • uh oh

  • Beats Gil Shaham by far. Sorry, I really like shaham though!

  • Wow!

  • in my favs!

  • in my favs

  • breathtaking!

  • This is by far the best rendition thus far... Awesome!

  • Ubi Boga u meni,da se tako šeretski izrazim.

  • Yes I agree, I like Gil Shaham and Esther Kim, but Midori is very good too, look up Kerson Leong, he's not bad either !... :)

  • Gil Shaham still top, but i still love them both!

  • Wonderful! She has some real style

  • Awesome!! *-* It's perfect :O

  • Fantastic!

  • すてき、みどりさんのヴァイオリン!!惹きこまれました!!

  • @lmfaohighfive34 Sarasate was European.

  • @ignatei I was talking about Midori.

  • I have been to her concert

  • Midori, my love: why do not they leave longer the after finishing your performance? I would love to see the public euforic thanks to you and your response to the joy of them. At least, half an hour. Ruperto

  • Midori, my love: why do not they leave longer the after finishing your performance? I would love to see the public euforic thanks to your and your response to the joy of them. At least, half an hour. Ruperto

  • Midori: I love you, the best of Sarasate Zapateado. No one like you. Also the pianist. Your parents too. Ruperto

  • wow great, at first i mistook her as Kyung Hwa Chung... just wondering if she's a japanese or korean..i love her smile too...

  • harika

  • i love how she truly enjoys herself when she plays =)

  • I think Midori could compete with David Garrett for fastest violinist! She has the quickest fingers I've ever seen.

I may not agree with all her phrasings, but this is my favorite version of Zapateado by far.

  • wow she can pluck the strings with the her hand thats already on the stringss!!!

  • Someone get her a guitar! :P

  • Just. Perfect.

  • the video is from the DVD "Midori - Live at Carnegie Hall with pianist Robert McDonald"; video directed by Peter Rosen

renowned pianist Robert McDonald has recorded many CDs with Midori and is a professor at both The Juilliard School and Curtis Institute of Music

  • One of the most impressive displays of virtuosity I have seen.

  • VERY GOOD...ADOREI ESSA TOCA MUITO MESMO...

  • I feel that the audience cheering at 0:47 inspires her! :) It is so great!

  • The pianist is absolutely brilliant in this as it Midori. The laugh at 0:47 is a lot to do with his timing.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger I think she is laughing because the audience thought it was the end.

  • @kevintamls I never though of that. The Carnegie Hall audience can't be that stupid - but then again...

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger

Totally agree!!!! Its very hard to accompany!!!!!

  • she looks so geek before..

  • @roendm so do you

  • Amazing technique from 0:43 to 0:46

  • BRAVO

  • The pianist keeps up with Midori's tempo, great performance !

  • like this: (thapa)+(thea)+(doh)

  • @cualquie the first one is "sapa"

  • @moonkasnow

No, en español de España, de Europa, que es de donde era Sarasate, la "z" se pronuncia "th", en Sudamérica sí se pronuncia como "s".

  • @cualquie ahhh ok ya caigo, gracias por la info : )

  • Would someone please tell me how on earth you pronounce the name of this song? Because I want to tell everyone about this.

  • would you please tell me the name of the concert, or the dvd, or the program or anything else dealing with this video?

  • i take advantage of the replay button :)

  • i thought heiftz's up bow staccatos were sick till i saw this.......

  • Comment removed

  • Though my favorite is definitely Hassid, this is probably my second favourite recording.

  • Sarasate must be very so happy & proud of this performance.

  • I love midori! Especially "The Last rose of Summer" for me she has done the best performance i have heard. But on this one the performance of "Sarasate Zapateado by Esther Kim in 2002" makes me feel the notes better.

    With respect.... :)

  • Bravo! Oh, to be young, and nimble and quick! ;- )

The best performance I've heard here. Seeing is believing.

  • For being able to play this you need to be virtuose! Not everybody can play it like this!

  • 1:33 some crazy technique. She sounds like a little machine gun spitting out notes....I was never able to play it that fast

  • wow!!!

  • her up bow staccato is sick....

  • perfect!

  • Omg, is a human able to play this?

  • YouTube the Great Great Grandfather in Composition of Peter I. Tchaikovsky:

  • i can't believe I'm going to see her!!!!!!!

  • @KimchiRattail damn you. D:

  • She's one of my fav living violinists...and what a beautiful smile

  • @shapeurmind and what about David Garrett? :))

  • @Mshashviashvili David Garrett sucks compared to her. Sorry but he plays like an student compared to her.

  • @violineb It's your personal opinion and I suppose you haven't watched and listened to David Garrett's Zapateado :)

  • WoW
