  • What suburb was this filmed in?

  • wow. that is awesome!! i thought our super cell storm here in melbourne was cool. nothing compared to that

  • There was some bad damage near watonga park

  • Rain driving horizantally!

    A true tropical storm.

In Melbourne we get icy winter blasts that give us hail and damaging winds, but are different from this.

I have seen several videos of this storm and it looks all very frightening; where a storm "explodes" and creates a great deluge.

  • ha!, fill up your pool for free!!

  • lol

  • don't worry i was in it my roof was broken

  • well we had been experiencing alot of supercells which didnt do too much damage that season but then when 2 supercells combined that day it made our worst storm season in 15 years and even after that we got a supercell every afternoon just about so the gap pretty much had no cover and they got pummelled and 2 months ago we got 500 ml rain and 3 weeks ago we goot another 500 ml so yer we are still battered

  • i live at sherwood we are geting bad now to 4 rd been shut

  • i live in the Gap, we got cars broken, trees on our cars, and cat died, roof demolished, windows broken, tress down, fences broken the whole lot, pretty scary stuff

  • thats awfull D: i live in the gap to, one of my chickens drowned other got knocked out by hail lol and our macadamia nut tree was ripped out of the ground

  • aww dude that suks (lol btw im sportluva8)

  • not really, some houses still getting their roofs done, rudd looked after us oretty well

  • we drove down from sunny coast the next day and it was total devastation, I have never seen anything like it before on the south coast ,are you gap guys still cleaning up?

  • it was 6 months ago....wtf do you think?

  • Somebody should've put out a water tank, that could be like $100k+

  • i live in durack and i dont memba that storm possibly cos the storms always miss us but the otha week we got a real ripper

  • dude you dont remember it cause it didnt hit you...it was a cyclone that hit down through the gap and totally demolished several houses....it wasnt just a bad storm you retard

  • dont call people retards mate, it was a supercell!

    retard!

  • Those are some heavy duty winds from 2.00 onwards

  • I live in Albany Creek...second worst hit to The Gap...All of our bird cages fell over...yes they all had birds in. I had to go out and pick them all up and I was drenched INSTANTLY from head to toe. No damage to our house though. Trees EVERYWHERE and roofs and whatever else.

  • Awesome video thanks for posting I have a whole heap of these videos in my favourites.

  • it was a Scary & dark Day.

All Luck to house that are still Seriously Damaged.

Hope The Gap will be back soon

  • i wish that could happen where i live i new zealand it seems soo dam cool :P

  • Trust me it isnt kool.

i was in my house when the storm hit.

it was nothing like just a little storm.

it had the biggest winds with hail & Heavy rain smashing down on you.

my house was lucky it didnt get much damage.

i only had 2 windows smashed, my fence fell, most of my trees fell & out house flooded.

over i think 20k or more was Spent to repair & replace only some of the stuff.

  • I know how you feel! I now live not far from Brisbane, but im in an area that seems to always miss them! it pisses me off! I want one like this! Nz does get the odd cyclone though, but dont hold your breath, iv seen more & better storm in my nearly 1 year here in SE Queensland than I did in my hole nearly 18 years in NZ lol

  • a bit of wind a bit of rain, we get this all the time at beaudesert

  • you wern't there! i was there by fluke! i live 2-3 hrs away in lismore!(the place that got hit the year before and right near where the tornado hit the year before) i was visiting my sister and that wasn't just wind or rain or both that thing was ferocious huge hail super strong winds! and a downpour of rain! it wasn't your average storm and i was there during the twister's storm (though i didn't see the twister i experienced the storm though!) and the hailstorm that hit lismore i was there too.

  • if you get hundreds of trees falling onto your house then sure abit or rain & Wind.

Freaky Wheaher Situation by you in Australia.

For ouer German Forum of Skywarn Germany! Thax

    Greats

    Jenny!

  • Perhaps you can get actual event details at Australia Weather site BOM . I tend to think that we use the term cyclone in Australia for any major storm, even though what we had may not have technically been a cyclone.

  • i was in chermside(sry about spelling) when it hit. we didn't get much hail but there was alot of wind and rain. if you went out for like half a second you were drenched literally i was on a roof-top-car-park at the shopping centre there and a few people went out to try to save their cars all soaked very very quickly!

the wind was propelling shopping trolleys into cars with force enough to create bangs that could have been herd 30m away in normal circumstances but

  • because of the storm noone heard anything.

that storm was one to rival lismore's storms the year before both the hail one which basically destroyed the city and the one which DID PRODUCE A TORNADO! yes a tornado! i was in lismore for both coz i live there and i tell you what all 3 storms had one thing in common. they scared the crap out of me! and for a storm to do that is pretty hard coz i'm a bit of a storm chaser myself. i love storms! but

  • i don't search for them i wait for them to come to me.

    hope that helps!

  • @GraveyardGoth187

hi mate, you can find more info about this storm from the Australian Bureau of Meterology website here

    bom.gov.au/qld/cyclone/thunderstorms/16Nov2008/qldth20081116.shtml

    Cheers

  • @GraveyardGoth18the clouds from this storm came around the left and right of my house at the same time then joined in front of it!! it was amazing and then all hell broke loose it was intense!

  • @GraveyardGoth187 This storm was actually a Super Cell, rather than a cyclone, it turns out.

And yes, I'm replying to a comment two years old. XD

  • @slyraventhefirst Don't worry about how late this reply is, I for one enjoyed the information. :)

  • @GraveyardGoth187

    1) We do often get tornados in Australia, but since our population is mostly coastal and the tornados occurr inland, they mostly go unwitnessed. I've lived in Brisbane/Gold Coast all my life and I've seen a few funnel clouds but no touchdowns...one got pretty close. Touchdowns in populated areas are extremely rare.

  • @GraveyardGoth187 2) It wasn't a cyclone but a supercell, from other footage I've seen it was most likely a microburst. We do get a few cyclones every year in Australia, but down in Brisbane we usually only get the outer rim with winds up to 60km/h or so. Occasionally the cyclones will spawn supercells in the outer rim though so we can see storms like this as the result of a cyclone.

  • @GraveyardGoth187 3) The storm caused flash flooding in the gap area. I wasn't specifically in the area at the time but from a distance I remember a lot of lightning.

  • @GraveyardGoth187 No it was not a cyclone. It was a microburst. The peak wind speed measured in the worst affected suburb (the Gap) at the height of the storm was 173 kph.

  • at least the one thing a drought does for you: makes you appreciate the rain!

  • I bet that pool was empty before the storm :p

  • oh my that was up there 180k wind !!

  • yeah back in 79 was bigger

  • yeah there was a big one in '87

  • I remember the 85 storm, stuck in family car in middle of mini cyclone at wild waters where the hyperdome is now, this is by far more intense storm once in a lifetime event

  • I wish it would rain like this in Melbourne, God only knows how much we need it, driest 12 years on record and when they predict rain, its sunny, sunny or just overcast. So over sunny days.

  • Bugger it, I left Brisbane on Saturday, nice clip

  • One word: EPIC
