  • There will always be people whom distrust the Official story.

    And its really ludicrous..

at this rate, no story will ever be believed.

come on folks.. not everything is a lie -_-

  • I can understand why a lot of people doubt the moon landing. At a time where digital watches were unheard of, a computer that fit into a room was new, Nasa put a man on the moon..... AND the worst of it: haven't accomplished much in terms of man space flight since then.

  • @lophilip We haven't exactly gone back to the moon but I still think we have done some amazing things. Take the ISS for example. As far as being exclusive to the United States, we had SkyLab and currently have the Space Shuttle. What about the Hubble Space Telescope and the detailed images of the planets in our solar system and 1000's of galaxies beyond it? I agree though, without research, the idea of visiting the moon seems insane.

  • All those things are great, but none of those things really captured the public's imagination. NASA has sort of lost their way. But there is hope - the space program in the US has started to go to commercial companies. It's about time that space be open to the general public.

  • Chev4206 - morons like you are not worth arguing with here. The only worthy response to the "moon-landing was a hoax" bullshit was that of Buzz Aldrin's fist to Bart Sibrel's face.

You deserve the same from Jim Lovell.

  • @matt6517 more like 10 milliseconds

  • 5 seconds late. can't the Yanks get anything right?

  • That clip is the version that was used in a Horizon Special broadcast in 1982 celebrating 25 years of spaceflight.

  • @ 31 secs. A blue 'sky' clearly seen through the window.......

  • Never ceases to amaze me how they got them to land in that exact spot in the ocean.

  • @yakidk89

geometery, maths things like er mannnn people of the civilised world ie Greeks,Romans,China.Arabs.Explorers,Fishermen,DanesDolphins,Birds ,Fish,Whales.

Shall I go on or are you just 12 years old.

  • @rrocking2055 It was more of a general statement regarding the scale of things or were you so moronic not to realise that.

By the way, you have so many pathetic grammar errors in your post. Are you 10 years old?

  • in my opinion apollo 13 is one of the most amazing true stories ever

  • well, they had the best , most competent personnel, they had learned the lessons of the apollo 1 fire , so everyone was well insulated with lots of back ups and spare parts, and the ground crew was amazing at all times in getting them back, but who was the genius that named it Apollo 13? That was just asking for trouble.

  • What a great example of problem solving and teamwork...and they were using sliderules!

  • The moon missions were faked in a studio which just happened to be "ON" the Moon. Here's a link to some of the evidence.

    w w w (dot) wikipedia (dot) org/wiki/Apollo_11

  • @BiWinningAssKicker Well i'm not American myself but judging by what I have heard if there is anything sad about the country it's the fact that half of those in your shithole are tring to sneak into their country. Now THAT'S sad.

  • the movie is fucking brilliant ALL THE BEST TO JIM LOVEL FRED W HAISE AND JOHN L JACK SWIGERT

  • so they did make it

  • that must have been scary in space when things are going wrong

  • The Apollo13 drama did much to cool relations between the US and Russia. When the magnitude of the problem unfolded the Russians did all they could to help and put all their resoarces at US disposal should it be necessary to bring Apollo down in their sphere of influence. By treaty they were obliged to return all space equipment immediately anyway but they went well beyond their obligations and demonstrated much good will.

  • @BiWinningAssKicker Mexico's contrbution to modernday technology the chia pet..

  • @BiWinningAssKicker I see you're from mexico....not exactly winning are you?

  • @BiWinningAssKicker ha.... your jokes are funny

  • @potrodsas Im lauighing at you thats enough

  • Was that big, crudely-drawn circle on the screen at 2.45 strictly necessary? =P Would've thought the Beeb would have realized it wasn't exactly hard by that point to see the three whopping great parachutes XD

  • @potrodsas Oh, I think I just answered my own question! :P

  • @potrodsas Why is it that the VAST majority of people who believe in the hoax are internet geeks? If you were face to face with a scientist and you put forward your case, you would be completely intellectually raped, and you would have a very red face after about 10 minutes or so.

  • @matt6517 Put me with a paid-up government shill scientist and they shall within seconds be reduced to a quivering wreck totally pulled apart by a few carefully aimed lashings of my tongue. Likewise you have been exposed as a total dick with your first sentence, read it a few times and realise what you have said. Or was it deliberate.........

  • @Chev4206 Prove it then. These are just words spoken in general, we all want to see a self proclaimed genius like you go out and arrange to speak with a qualified scientist, so you can record your interview and prove to us that it isn't all talk! Give me some evidence, and then I MAY take you seriously.

  • @matt6517 In your very first sentence you blatantly put it that the vast majority of people who believe in the hoax are internet geeks. Does this mean you believe it as hoax? Because that's what you've written. However I shall accept the statement the way I think you meant to say it, perhaps you ever so slightly slipped up with the grammar. Also I will correspond with you with civility, no swearing no put-downs. Ok what evidence would you like, where shall we start?

  • @Chev4206 No I don't believe it as hoax, I believe that the moon landings were real. Just because I may be a bit of an internet geek myself that doesn't mean that I am included, nor are most people who use the internet. What I was trying to put across is that conspiracy theorists use the internet to argue their points because they do not have to meet face to face with anybody, meaning that they can hide their expression and insecurities about their theories.

  • @Chev4206 As I said in my previous comment, suffiicient evidence would be proof that a legitimate (not self proclaimed) and impartial scientist has been caught out by someone asking questions about the moon landings, and is unable to prove the moon landings being real.

  • @matt6517 One does not have to be a scientist to be smart. People are basically decent but not necessarily 'with it' when it comes to logical thinking. Some are clever some are stupid. There are plenty stupid that litter the Yt channels and one of my hobbies is winding them up. It's all innocent stuff to be honest but some of them are so thick they invite upon themselves put-downs and insults because they assault my intelligence and question my thinking.

  • @Chev4206 True, but only with a qualified scientist (or maybe even an engineer or technician) are you assured a professional point of view from someone who thinks logically for their job every day. And because I haven't seen any qualified person of this kind (who isn't self proclaimed) explain why the moon landings never happened, and because these people are trustworthy, I see no reason to suspect a hoax.

  • @Chev4206 I also have a little scientific knowledge myself and can see that a lot of the claims by CTs are bogus. One guy wouldn't believe me when I told him that alpha particle radiation can be blocked by paper, and this same person also said, and I quote: "lol gold foil isn't a metal".

Just to be clear, as there was confusion about my first comment, what side are you on? Do you believe the moon landings were faked?

  • @matt6517 I am not on any ' side ' as it were, but there is far far more evidence against apollo than there is to believe it. Example: the plss specs are an outright joke as are the specs to the lem, the photographic video and televised evidence speaks for itself. I could go on but fear the apollogist wolves will pounce once this is posted. The entire program is hoax from start to ending, a piss-take on the gullible populace. Have I answered to your satisfaction?

  • @Chev4206 Sounds like you've picked a side there...

  • @matt6517 No. There are two sides here, the Truth and the Facts. The Facts are what the gullible populace has been led to believe as Truth. The Truth disproves the Facts.......

  • @Chev4206 schmucks like you don't deserve any civility in any debate. Denying the moonlanding - yeah ok you got proof? Oh you dont - well f*** off then. Youre such a "rebel" I bet you think of yourself

  • @atomsmurf Yes I have proof you Viking cunt. Do you wish to learn of it or continue to listen to the brain-washing bullshit? Your choice, but no profanities please.

  • @matt6517 prove it WASNT real, douche

  • @DracoC47 Okay, there is extensive video and photographic evidence that clearly shows astronauts on the moon. Also, the large quantity of moon rocks that were collected. You can't really disprove the moon landings, all you can do is prove them, and then be disproved. I haven't seen any valid disproof of any of the evidence yet.

  • @DracoC47 Hold on, have we misunderstood each other here? I say why do so many people believe in the hoax, and you thought I was referring to the real landings (WHICH HAPPENED, FULL STOP) as "the hoax", ergo I was actually saying "why do so many people believe that the moon landings happened?". No no no, I just notice that a lot of people who believe it was a hoax use the internet to vent their ideas on young and susceptible minds, where they can just blank you if you prove them wrong.

  • I remember watching that live at the time.

  • wow, you have it in colour. cool.

  • I knew Jim Lovell and Fred Haise were still alive but I didn't know John had died. Or I had just forgotten.

  • could you imagine being in that ship for 24 days so cold so moist so far away from life your home your family?

  • @PaintballAce7 7 days

  • How great to see so many of us "Earthlings" all united to celebrate the successful return of three astronauts, who represent the best of humanity. Peace to All On "the good Earth!"

  • that was amazing those men are very brave ;]

  • At 3:06,did the the guy say" fucking"? i replayed it 5 times and i swear he said it.

  • One of the great moments in american history!

  • whats the song at 0:39?

  • @aylenlake17 david bowie space oddity

  • @aylenlake17 The song is Space Oddity by David Bowie, if you like it, then look up Ashes to Ashes which explains why 'Major Tom' was experiencing what he did... It was a hit at the time that men 1st walked on the moon as it related to what teens of the era were doing while these barriers were being broken.

  • "FUCK YEAH" !...that's what I would have said if i was alive back then. Rather than just saying it here on Youtube. I love this story, and pardon my French.

  • if the moon has no atmosphere.....and the temperature is 200 degrees in the sun......and since the spaceship was constantly in the sun on its way home....how then could the lunar module be cold? wouldn't the problem be heat? just asking.....

  • @fowzie777 because sliver and light colours light that just reflect the heat witch would make it hard to heat up

  • @fowzie777 Atmosphere is required to retain heat. The temperature at an altitude of about 35000 feet in earths upper atmosphere (the cruising Alt. of an airliner) can drop to -50 C. There is nothing in the vacuum of space to retain heat. Its the same reason why you can die of heat in the Sahara in the day, but die of hypothermia at night.

  • @mellodge - yes but they were on the bright side of the moon and there was no shade. so there was no night. and the astronauts own testimony is that there is 400 degrees difference between shadow and light. this was why they needed air conditioning in there space suits. also the space craft had air conditioners. why?

  • After seeing this real footage of the crew, I just realized the immediate similarity between Apollo 13 and the Chile Mine Incident. May God bless the miners.

  • Meep

  • it never happened lol

  • the guy crossing his fingers is awesome.

  • That's a tie!

  • Just saw on the news that the US thanked a group of scientists who helped with the reentry math equation or something. True allies

  • I was alive then--13 years old. That was amazing. Lovell, Swigert, Haise. Like I remember White, Grissom, and Chaffee. Great men for all time. You too, Neil, Edwin, and Michael. I'll never forget.

  • Although not dipicted in the movie, Aquarius (the lunar lander) was aimed at the kayman trough (a huge trench under the ocean) when it was jettisoned, because onboard was unused nuclear power that was supposed to have remained on the moon. They new it (Uranium I think?) would survive re-entry, so the idea was to 'bury it' under the ocean. It is still there today and will remain radio active for thousands of years.

  • @mellodge - yeah right. the lunar lander had walls that were almost paper thin. and they were carrying highly radioactive material and the astronauts weren't affected after 3 days in close proximity? give me a break!!!!

  • @fowzie777 after reviewing my post I'd made the following errors: It was the Tonga trench not the Kaymen trough, and it was Plutonium and not Uranium. Apollo astronauts DID carry a device called a SNAP 27, powered by plutonium.

You are a prime example of these conspiracy theorists who no nothing about the subject they are trying to disprove and do virtually no real research of there own to back it up there claims.

  • @mellodge - why would you assume that i am a "conspiracy theorist" for asking questions? if they can be answered, fine....but if not then are they not legitimate? you assumed that i would not accept an answer that educated me to something i had not thought of or was mistaken about. you even admit you made some errors in your comment. does that make you an idiot?

  • Jim Lovell is my great grandfather

  • Why did they feel the need to circle the capsule with a big white circle? Its impossible to miss!! lol

  • why does it turn to color at the end

  • you know mission control shit there pants once the parachutes open i know i would hahah

  • simply unbelievable and awe-inspiring!!

  • Long live James Burke

  • to get back to earth alive they have to depend on their heat shield

  • Was "space Oddity" recorded in 1973? Burke became known to American viewers from the "Connections" PBS series

  • @delbard1 i recall Burke interviewing the flight director Eugene Kranz about the mission on the 30the anniversary and Kranz suddenly broke down the the end of the interview in tears and this was really touching as it showed how much the safety of the crew meant to this great man that he bottled up this emotion after all these years..

  • @dunavuk 30th anniversity would make it 2003. Is Burke still alive?

  • @delbard1 According to two sources on the web he is alive and active at the age of 73. In fact the main source is his current project , k-web.org still on the "connections" ideas

  • @dunavuk Incidently, while I remember it (as all the moon landing tapes were lost by the BBC) I remember James Burke was commentating during the Apollo 15 "hammer and feather" demo on the Moon by Astronaut Scott when the Astronaut dropped a hammer and feather on camera. James then chucked a hammer and feather up in the air in the studio to show the difference. Good fun, in black and white TV to match the Moon footage. And how wonderful to get home from school and watch "Live From the Moon"!

  • Can someone tell me exactly how they died? Were they left up in space to die little by little or did it explode up in space?

  • @cpadill5 : What the hell are you talking about? Don´t you kids learn history in school anymore? How about reading books or even use google?

Jim Lovell and Fred Haise are still alive and John Swigert died 1982 of cancer.

  • @malticologne I was brought up in Mexico and that's why I'm inquiring dumb dumb! that's how we learn right? by asking questions!!

  • @malticologne Nobody is taught this in school these days.

  • @malticologne no we are more interested in pussy and video games...

  • @cpadill5 And don't forget the movie, which is really accurate.

  • @cpadill5 As you're 33 yrs old I take it your comment is a joke?

  • I was too young to remember this, but imagine this happening now with health & safety lot in charge... they would never even had lifted off...

  • We lucked out that this did not happen on Apollo 8. Went out to orbit the moon with NO LM, would have been fatal (no LM = no backup ship to take cover in and no engine to make burns)

  • Cpt. Jim Lowell - Apollo 13 had a Czechoslavak flag on the board 'cause his dad moved to America from the CS. And he said he is proud of his roots. So me as a Czech, I can be proud of him..

  • I think its funny how simple things came make countries hate each other but 3 men almost lost in space can bring the whole worlds together!

  • that was amazing....

  • The music ruined it.

  • This Is Very Important Story Of World Very Good

  • Wow that must've been suspenseful to view live. Watching it when you know they make it safely creates enough tension.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting.

  • Wow, original footage.

  • yeah, Apollo 13 the movie uses actual footage as well...

  • You know the older I get, the more incongruous the feminine bleating of the era's glamor boys seem in juxtaposition to the actions of real men like the astronauts and engineers who made this possible - men who have gone all but missing today - the effeminate and lackluster Shuttle and Station crews don't hold a candle, or even an LED, to these people!

Hint to space videographers - leave the BS music out.

  • Wow! James Burke wth his fingers crossed... great image!

  • amazing

  • An incredible video. Just the moment of James Burke with his finger crossed tells how tense the situation was.

  • amazing.

apollo 13 is one of my favorite movies. very accurate. and the reentry scene makes me cry everytime.

  • couldn't agree with you more, i remember watching it one saturady night and being in tears during the re-entry scene, i've never cried before or since during a movie, great scene, great movie

  • Yeh it makes me well up EVERY time I watch that damn film!!! No other movie has ever been able to do it.

  • One of America''s finest moments that showed the power of a team and faith that they could accomplish the task at hand.

    The movie was so inspirational!

If you like inspirational movies like this, you should read The Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich. It shows you the natural process of goal achievement and after you read it, go back and watch this movie and you'll see exactly how Kranz and his team at NASA used it to naturally achieve their goal of bringing back the crew of Apollo 13.

  • A great moment in American history.

  • reading abt it at skool

  • gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

  • Still quite moving years after. I got a chill when the chutes are spotted and the BBC commentators react.

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    (1) Why do we enjoy space travel and flying?

    (2) Why do we have a perception that space is closer related with America?

    (3) Why do we relate space and aviation with Americans' culture and values?

    (4) Why do we so curious what is in the sky?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • (1) Makes for 'good' news stories compared to the bad going on in the world, no?

(2 & 3) Although other nations are involved in space, America is still at the forefront of space travel and new technologies. They do not gloat over that, there is no national pride over that. In fact they share what they know.

    (4) We have always looked up to the heavens in wonder. Why not explore it to our limit.

(5)The space race is over. Many nations involved now. This is now a 'team effort'.

  • yes many other nations are involved in space now,but in the 60' and 70' no other country could do what the US did,NASA was way ahead of any other countries space program, which most countries did not even have one.

  • 1) Not so much now, but at the time it was very exciting new technology; the possibilities seemed endless.

    2) Russia as well, but eventually the comunist regime was going to lose so America lead the way.

    3) The way the Space programme was presented to the public was very `Disneyfied` I felt.

    4) Perhaps if we could fly, we wouldn`t care.

  • its sicking to think how far this country has degressed since this amazing moment , a time were we America was truly the envy of the rest of the world

  • REAL........!!

  • They actually did make it to the moon, well apollo 11 i mean, because they planted this thing, i cant remember what its called off the top of my head that reflects when look though a telescope, and nothing else on the mood would reflect unless man made. So Apollo 11 did make it. but they did land WAY WAY off course :P

  • Yeah, they planted mirrors which reflect lasers sent from Earth, to keep track of the distance.

  • it's called a lunar laser retroreflector, and behaves in the same way as a cat's eye in the road

  • MOOOOOOOOOROOOOOOOON

  • Dont be such an idiot, im not saying i dont belive, i think they did, but with some stuff that shows up you really dont know what to belive, i belive they did. But anything is possible, so dont be such a douche

  • it is clearly an accident...

  • No serious scientist has ever doubted the moon landing.

  • @auh786 yea just like i thought no serious scientists doubted darwinism till i watched that movie Expelled . and showed me the truth

  • @yourboycal No serious scientist has ever doubted darwinism since the 1800's...

  • @auh786 No serious PERSON has ever doubted it----only complete nut jobs...

  • @donwert Plenty of experts doubted it matey but they met with an early death, you can check on those involved that died, and notice that the ones that died who were scientists have been written off as drunks and junkies and untrustworthy.. yet when they were employed by NASA they did not notice untill they spoke up, then they turned into drunks and junkies who could not be trusted.

Do you smell a rat or are you nasal passages blocked

  • @kevinturvy ROTFLMAO!!!!! Oh, and JFK was killed by a CIA/Mafia/Illuminati/LBJ conspiracy and 9/11 was a Pentagon job---or was it Israeli...blah blah blah....lots and lots of credulous dummies out there...conspiracy porn I call it....

  • @auh786 They have and they are dead

  • @auh786 there were 6 moon landings

  • They went that's it. Face reality and stop being juvenile.

  • 2:25 to 2:28 there's some text. What does it say?

  • listening for apollo 13

  • thanks, man. It was kinda hard to see.

  • "listening for apollo 13"

  • did BBC put that song on there or did you?

  • did bbc put that song on lol? are you for real?

  • the BBC did, one of the big reasons that song was a hit.

  • probably would have been the most watched deaths in the history of mankind if not for some great work in the ground and space.

  • @sja11

    Either that or 9/11.

  • If landing on the moon was acomplishment #1 then this mission has to be '1a.'Brilliant.

  • what song is playing in the backround

  • David Bowie "Space Oddity"?

  • Even today, nearly 40 year later, seeing that capsule under it's chutes brings tears to my eyes. Amazing bravery and brilliant ingenuity. If anything could top America's achievement in landing on the moon, then getting these men back alive must be it!

  • @mpearson58 Me too, though I`m Norwegian. I really hope the plans of going back to the moon will happen. "We" gained so much from the Apollo era and so on. A lot of science, materials etc. So this payed back several times. Also to the beginning of a new era, to find out more about who we are, why we are here and so on. To me, the greatest achievement is the lmoonlandings. But now, several nations could go together and share the costs and gain from it together.

  • @mpearson58

    tears ? hehehehe.

  • Listening to James Burke here I expect the scene to cutaway to some castle or landscape or factory somewhere.

  • Yes, he should be saying "and it was here that this man, met this man and together they invented this thing...or did they? How do you know? "

  • are u drunk?

  • the person isn't but you are

  • Hearing "There they are! They've made it!" in a British accent is so reassuring after that idiot Percy polluted the Web with his hoax theory.

  • The tension waiting for radio blackout to end must have been unbearable.

You can see it on the faces of the BBC team.

  • Ground control to Major Tom ---v interesting

  • This is an urban myth. The pens used air pressure slightly above normal to ensure ink flow. Pencils were never used by the russians or anyone else. The points break and float around the spacecraft risking being breathed in or damaging switches.

  • owned by ellis...stupid scrub

  • You watched Primer too huh? I thought it was a phenomenal movie!

  • you took that from robin williams

  • incredible.

  • Nice! Name of the song?

  • david bowie - major tom..i think

  • Space Oddity

  • o ai

  • excelente, gracias

  • Thank you for posting this, I wasn't born when this happened, but it's still wonderful to watch! Thank you!

  • One of the great miracles of the 20th century. I cannot imagine what it was like for everyone back then to sit there waiting to see what happened...anyway, thanks for posting.

  • I remember watching this live wen I was very young.

The sense of relief (and pride!) at seeing the Apollo 13 CM coming down under 3 good chutes was overwhelming.

  • The Russians let the mericans know that they had put thier fleet on emergency alert in case the Soviets had a ship near-by if 13 had come off target.
