German Underground Horror is fucked up. Some consider this film and its sequal nothing more than an excercise in the disturbing or an attempt to offend even the most desensitized viewer, others believe these films actually are making a statement about society and have a message underneath all the disturbing subject matter. Honestly..I don't know which side has it right...maybe a little of both..but I really don't know.

And I agree, I'll probably never view either film ever again. It was disturbing..which I will give it props for...few horror films have been able to upset me the way this and it's follow up have.

I was really dissapointed when i had seen it, after all the hype this one relly failed for me.
Sure the plot is great (and so is the music) but it never delivers.
And about it being "so disturbing" the only thing that made me uncomfortable was the last scene when he vacillates about the stabbing not the very poorly made orgasm.
But maybe i need to see it again it was like 15 years since i last saw it.
i never knew that people outside of germany got into this one ;) when i was about 11 years old, this movie went around in my school as a stolen copy and was the proove, that you´re real when you can watch it without moving your face :) it became kinda trashy through the years, but it´s nice to see people all across the globe appreciating a blockbuster of my childhood ;p

when I first time saw it, I lost my appetite for a whole week. But I still watched the part 2. Besides being the most disguisting film I've seen, it's a great horror film in other aspects. I liked the story, the characters in these films pretty well developed and the atmosphere is so well done. It gives you the feeling that these kind of things could be happening next door. And the way they depicted the inner world of the main character in the first part is just briliant.
This is a fantastic film!! Buttgereit is a damn genius. I've seen much of his work. For people digging this style, I recommend Gaspar Noe's Seul Contre Tous and Man Bites Dog (C'est arrivé près de chez vous). They show the artistic side of traditionally banned topics. Other great flicks are Audition, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, practically anything by the Italian masters (Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Mario Bava), Buio Omega, Ansgt and I Drink your Blood.

I can say that french ones is not bad in last years ,like Inside and Martyrs. And just from classics, i've watched this 70's film Wizard of Gore few days ago ,someone recommended me and i really liked it, its very atmospheric. They made terrible remake though -.-
@rompoculoK yeah im aware he's german i just do not know too many other films from germany, and yes martyrs is great and inside was pretty good too. and yes! i love wizard of gore, you should check out the rest of Herschell Gordon Lewis's stuff like two thousand maniacs, blood feast, gore gore girls etc... . and if you love asian horror you should see Jigoku, Kwaidan, House, and all the films by Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: the iron man, Tetsuo: Body Hammer, Bullet Ballet etc.... .

And i liked 2000 maniacs, but first i watched 2001 maniacs and that was fun too.Seen Kwaidan and Tetsuo and Jigoku thats all pretty much old classics.I also like japanese gore like Tokio Gore Police and Mutant Girls Squad,then Stacy,Suicide Club and Ichi the Killer ones of my favourites as well (: and a lot more. And yeah, im planning to dig into 70's american gore as well . Thank you :o
@rompoculoK and yeah japanese splatter flicks are some of my favourites ... if you haven't already see Meatball Machine, it's from the same director who did Battlefield Baseball. If Ichi the Killer is all you've seen of Miike, i recommend going out and seeing all his other films (Dead or Alive 1&2, Gozu, Fudoh, Happiness of the katakuris etc....) also if you like old yakuza flicks check out Seijun Suzuki, they are some of the best out there. .. btw 70s gore is prime, if you need advice, ask.

@rompoculoK as for french, my personal favourite french horror film is Eyes Without a Face, it's absolutely stunning. Obviously see the italian horror/shock/drama/tragedy SALO (or 120 Days of Sodom) it is a masterpiece and don't let anybody tell you differently.

@rompoculoK i know haha ... and yeah im german and dutch, but im into mostly asian cinema (focusing more on japanese and korean rather than thai and chinese) and italian/french ... i'd be curious to hear of more excellent german films if you have any recommendations, im always willing to be open.

@HorrorCinephile lol same actually,i really like asian horror and gore movies. I was talking more about german music and art and just happened that Jorg Buttgereit german director too :o. I can say that french ones is not bad in last years ,like Inside and Martyrs. And just from classics, i've watched this 70's film Wizard of Gore few days ago ,someone recommended me and i really liked it, its very atmospheric. They made terrible remake though -.-

@rompoculoK yeah im aware he's german i just do not know too many other films from germany, and yes martyrs is great and inside was pretty good too. and yes! i love wizard of gore, you should check out the rest of Herschell Gordon Lewis's stuff like two thousand maniacs, blood feast, gore gore girls etc... . and if you love asian horror you should see Jigoku, Kwaidan, House, and all the films by Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: the iron man, Tetsuo: Body Hammer, Bullet Ballet etc.... .

@HorrorCinephile no,im actually dont know other good german films as well. Except Nosferatu. And i liked 2000 maniacs, but first i watched 2001 maniacs and that was fun too.Seen Kwaidan and Tetsuo and Jigoku thats all pretty much old classics.I also like japanese gore like Tokio Gore Police and Mutant Girls Squad,then Stacy,Suicide Club and Ichi the Killer ones of my favourites as well (: and a lot more. And yeah, im planning to dig into 70's american gore as well . Thank you :o

@rompoculoK and yeah japanese splatter flicks are some of my favourites ... if you haven't already see Meatball Machine, it's from the same director who did Battlefield Baseball. If Ichi the Killer is all you've seen of Miike, i recommend going out and seeing all his other films (Dead or Alive 1&2, Gozu, Fudoh, Happiness of the katakuris etc....) also if you like old yakuza flicks check out Seijun Suzuki, they are some of the best out there. .. btw 70s gore is prime, if you need advice, ask.

@rompoculoK as for french, my personal favourite french horror film is Eyes Without a Face, it's absolutely stunning. Obviously see the italian horror/shock/drama/tragedy SALO (or 120 Days of Sodom) it is a masterpiece and don't let anybody tell you differently.

This movie is possibly one of the only several movies that actually scares me....
If you didn't already know this, This movie is influenced on NECROPHILIA.
Necrophilia seems to be very surrealistic, but yet it is very real.
