  • Molto brava

  • I agree with Julian Bream - considering the situation she was in it was a very fine performance. Great to watch.

  • Although I could never claim to be"masterclass student material" this(and the Segovia vids)leads me to conclude that such classes probably contribute very little to actually improving performance.I suspect that straightforward Q&A sessions would be more beneficial in that respect.

  • @noazarkle at 1:00, he says "see what you make of it".

This is a woman of tremendous skill who is already playing at 98% quality. She is in a class with a man considered 99.5% or better and she is learning by comparing her style to his, working with the music. When she does something wrong (ie missed note in pt2) and he asks if it is intentional.

It takes a LOT of work to improve a tiny bit at that level.

It's easily as much about knowing what to look at. For that, even I can learn from it.

  • strange i find his interpretation to fast . I prefered Breams student ... being female maybe she was more in touch with the beauty of the piece ?

  • Does anyone know what year this took place? I think in the 80s?

  • @guitarurchin I think early 70s - Check Cheryl's webpage.

  • I think she did a fantastic job and listening and application. Women get it because they are in touch with all things beautiful. The insults are necessary, people. This was beautifully done no question. I never heard of Cheryl until today. I would like to find out more about her and other female players like her. Bravo!!

  • genial sin palabras!!!! amazing

  • Buen maestro.

  • Bream's intensity finally got to Cheryl, as revealed by her expression at around 2:53. Good that he eased off thereafter. Must be tricky getting the balance between telling a talented player all those nuances they need to know, whilst allowing them their dignity.

    Fantastic set of videos.

  • Mr. Bream..this is NOT about YOU!

  • Not about Bream?

    Of course it is!

  • The teacher is present to teach. It's about the student, not about the teacher. Julian Bream is showing off, wanting to WOW those present.

  • He's wanting to 'wow' the student. To inspire the student is the point of a masterclass. Private lessons are the place for careful and considered discussion and raport between teacher and student. A masterclass is too short for this.

  • Fair enough point - I realise that is how you would want it.

Personally I think being in a position to be part of a televised class with Bream "WOW"ing people is enough to inspire. I doubt a couple of hours tuition will teach as much as inspire.

I would be happy had I been on the receiving end of some showmanship from Bream :-)

  • get over yourself. Its a masterclass. The whole point is for the maestro to inspire the student; there isn't time for a raport to be established and the student can take it or leave it.

  • Get over myself? You disagree with my assessment and it becomes personal? You have your opinion and I have mine.

  • no i agree, much of the masterclass to me is just getting so overwhelmingly awed by the teacher... like I had a masterclass with leo brouwer, man oh man that was awesome. I learned so much just because I saw him play and practiced so much to be like that afterwards. Just to be in his prescence was mindblowing

  • He could also sit still and say nothing - but what would we/she learn then...

  • She's not there to see John Denver.

Great advice from a Master and much better than the Segovia classes.

  • I know Segovia's like your stupid get outa here.

  • Try writing in English next time?

I have no idea what you are writing about but you are one confused 18 year old.

And your statement... "I believe there is (sic) absolutes"....

    Absurd. Based on what?

Clear writing is the path to clear thinking.

  • What a peculiar person you are writing this to me. Very strange...

  • You are quite a bitter man, aren't you.

  • And you're a little boy writing the the "bitter man"...

so what does that make you?

    A Troll.

  • The term troll is highly subjective, maybe it could be your lack of understanding, or you are quick to false assumptions as to what something might mean. Oh wait, is that a Troll thing to say?

  • Is there any one better than Bream???

  • no :)

  • no he's the best
