10-4! Yea, that's the method we use anyway because we lay such a large amount of track at one given time so it help's speed up the process but the way you are putting it down is more suitible because it's a small layout.
I normally pour the ballast in the center and let it spill over by running my finger down the middle then using a brush to touch up. Afterward's taking the handle of the brush and lightly tapping the rail head's until it's all even and settled in and if done just right you won't have any ballast on the ties after to glue is dried. Also applying the alcohol I found is much easier done with a small spray bottle to mist it on.
Oh, of course. As long as it is not too tight, any HO or OO scale model train will run on it. Say that you have a piece of track that is shaped like a U. If you measure across(from the beginning of the turn to the end of the turn) and it is less that 20 inches, any Thomas model should run on it(or mostly any medium-sized model for that sake).
i do the same exact thing..i use an index card to keep the sloped sides straight..and you can bend them so they work on curves it gives u good clean lines..nice job tho

dude you fucking suck img im only 13 and im balasting some track today and you rushed it for fuck sake mate, you dont over fill the sleepers with ballast or it just dosent look right!
No, that was not Elmers(it was a glue called Ross), but all of those white glues have the same formula, so they work the same. Yes, the "finer materials" I was talking about are grass, foliage, etc. The next question depends on if your scenery base is foam or wood. Wich is it? Reply soon-thanks a lot for checking out my vids!
Yeah, so all you would have to do if you were using foam is to stick the tree bases into the foam and glue them in(i would not recommend doing this if you want to move your trees around later)Thanks!
What I do is paint the top of the foam a light brown, then spread white glue all around the area you want to scenik with your finger(this will get messy, but it is easy to spread with your finger). Then, you put your ground foam and other stuff on(this does not include trees and bushes, just finer materials). You then put dilluted white glue all over the ground foam with a pipette(the same thing I used for the video). Then, sprinkle a little bit more ground foam over the earlier stuff. Thanks!
ok thanks! so the white glue, what is that, elmers? and the ground foam is the grass and foiliage? then also, how do i put the trees in through the grass?
For a mainline, you should use Midwest products cork roadbed or Woodland Scenics Sub-Terrain roadbed. For a siding or spur, you can just lay the track down without ballast and put grass, twigs, or other types of the dedris that could get there. Well, I guess for sidings you could put some ballast on. Just do it the same way I did in the video. Thanks!
Yeah, you can. The only thing is that there would not be that much space to put the ballast in, so you would not end up with a higher track. Did you start your layout yet? If not, I think that for the mainline(s) you should use some type of roadbed. It is very cheap( I think about $1 for a 3-foot section), and will make your layout a lot more realistic. But, of course, for sidings and spurs, just keep the track non-elevated. Tell me what you think! Thanks.
no i didnt start my ballasting yet. i think im just gonna make an outline of where my track is and put the ballast down and then put the track over it.
What does the alchohol do? The video is very informative. Thx.

now when u are ready for the grass and stuff, do u put it just on top of the foam and then just use the woodland scenics glue?

i have atlas code 100 ho scale track.....can you ballast that track with out any roadbad under it? or do you recomend that i put roadbed

does the two part water one part glue really hold the ballast good?
robgoalie1234 2 years ago
yeah, it really does. If it cracks too much, though you can try 1 to 1
spazman13579 2 years ago
cool enjoyed the vid can you check out my how too on river/stream thanks
guitar446 2 years ago
It takes the air out of the ballast, letting the glue go into the ballast without beading up.

oh ok i see.
ballparkfrank10 2 years ago
I wet my ballast down with water in a spray bottle, and then go over it with glue, that is my way, bad things is that the ballast beads up some times

what does the alchohol do? cause i didnt use it and it was fine when i ballasted.
