A lot of albums from this time period were very under-rated and ahead of their time..Self, Hum, Sponge to name a few....this was an excellent time period for music...i feel it truly defined my generation ;)
Is Matt's tongue really pierced, or is that going along with the pseudo-punk conceit of the video? Also, which one is Mike, does anyone know? I suspect it's the other bleach blond.
@TheChai0628 that would be Stay Home ("I wanna stay home today") and they didn't change their name! Still sElf. Matt did a side project called Wired All Wrong, maybe that's what you're thinking of.
Wow, totally forgot about these guys. My mom made a big stink about the album name mentioning "subliminal", she thought this music was going to make me join a cult or something, hahahaha
Matt Mahaffey might be one of the greatest musical geniuses to actually make GOOD pop music. It's so accessible, and yet so creative and interesting. I cannot believe that he is not more popular. The man can fucking make brilliant music!
Criminally underrated group. I bought this album after I saw them live in 1996 or so. Dude is a musical genious and produced some amazing material. Too bad they fell under the radar.. The piano breakdown always gets me in this song
I got this album shortly after it came out (when I was in junior high), didn't really appreciate it much then. Now that I'm near thirty I love it. Glad I never got rid of it.
hey man can you send me Mp3 copy of this track, also for the song "canon".. i can't find this album anymore,, know what?! i have also the "rubberneck" album hehe

the reason it was never appreciated...rocked SPM all the way thru high school & i was so glad to have someone from my hometown to represent good music...thanx matt....
This is the first time i have ever heard of these guys apparently i missed one of the biggest bands of the 90s? I like the song but honestly never heard this or them before.
wow.. grade 10 memories!! No one I knew back then had a clue what I was talking about when I brought up this album. Listened to it sooo much that summer. Thanks for posting this!
Wow!!! I have never seen this vid!!! Subliminal Plastic Motives is an album I grew up listening too! That's for posting! Brought back a lot of great memories!!!
this is one of those cd's that if you lost it and found it again years later, it would sound just as good....great songs...matt inspired me to write poetry
i love this song! i discovered self back then through this video...i just saw the 2nd half of it and i was blown away. it took me a couple of years to find the album (i'm in argentina)...actually, i had to order it from amazon =P anyway, all this just to say that matt is a genius and thank you phillafella for posting this awesome video! :) long live self!!!
