I'm from Lockesburg, AR. 40 miles north of Texarkana next to DeQueen. I use to find loggerheads all of the time in my backyard. And they would bite a broom handle in half.
That "monster" was a pump jack oil well. Out in West Texas on a quiet night, 100 of those sounds like a pod of whales. Almost ambient and relaxing and fun to ride.
Hellow sir, Im headin down there sometime in August. Id love to visit this area, anyway you can tell me the location to this spot where the creek was. Thks!
your wading through a creek looking for mocasins?? isnt that dangerous? or do u get really tall boots and protective gear where he cant bite through it?
The sheer beauty and incredible bio-diversity of Arkansas is amazing. Great vid man, 5 stars here! Haha, you had me crackin' over your "swamp monster." You never really know what goes bump in the night out here... it all just adds to the experience!
matt u retard just cause you see a black snake near water dosnt mean is a mocasin stupid its a black rat snake there all over indiana i catch em all the time
Black racers are not venomous and will EAT a copper head up if given a chance- I've seen it before. In the bushes next to a fast food restaurant of all places!
I think it was a great video, a father giving his kids a good memory. The snake that the kid was handling was NOT venomous and he was probably more experienced than most adults by the looks of things!!
no that was a black rat snake he had. yep, he's been doing this since he was 3 and i've been doing it for a few decades at this point. thanks for the comments.
Thank you so much for sharing! Are you from AR? It's awesome to see you getting your kids outside and making these memories with them. Did you know AR Dept of Heritage was doing a box turtle survey? - don't know if it's too late to submit your sightings.
I'm in Arkansas. We grew up doing what your doing. It was nothing to wade into and across those streams. I wouldn't dare do it now. The Copperheads here are at times agressive. One chased me around my car at night much like your doing. The sound could probably be a water pump irrigating a field of rice.
i hear you! as a kid i waded through all kinds of stuff with tennis shoes down there. actually that sound was an old oil pump, scared me at first until i figured out what it was.
Awesome finds! I live in Magnolia, but grew up in Stephens. I spend a lot of time at Lake Columbia. Lot's of good wildlife out there. If you want to see an alligator in Arkansas, try Lake Millwood. I know there are some out there.
i'm from stephens to my name is joel simmons. well any way me and a friend we hunt for water snakes with 22's. Been to millwood did not see a gator but i hear you can find on lake erling. all i ever do is ride in the oil felids and stuff.
if you guys want to see some awesome alligators go to Brazos bend state park in Texas. there are a ton, i have tons of pics, they are awesome. i got about 3 feet from a couple six footers, we also came about 5 yards from a 15 footer that went into the water and went to the oposint bank, then snapped its jaws. sounded like a thunder clap.
lol lol lol i live literaly 15 miles from where u guys were... that sound was wat we like to call a grasshopper well it is an electronic oil well and during the summer the well will get warped and make that sound. and watch that kid around those "copper heads" water mocasins will kill a kid!
yeah, we saw a lot of those "grasshoppers", sure is eerie when you're out on those dirt roads at night. easy to get lost if you don't remember if you took a right or left. i'm real careful with my son around any venomous snake, he keeps a safe distance.
dude.u have great videos and i really enjoy herping myself but i still wouldnt let a 9 year old walk through those waters looking for venemous snakes or alligators.
he's safe, we didn't walk through those waters. i make sure if we're in a funky place that he has his snake boots + he has snake proof garters that strap around his shins that come up to the knee. i hear you though.
oh thats cool...yeah im only 13 and all i can find is garters, and bullfrogs...its aggrivating when you go out every weekend and cant hardly find anything.lol.
Those water snakes are some of the most agressive snakes I have ever caught. Skinks can also be agressive. The biggest one I have ever caught was a great plains skink that couldnt fit in a 28ounce coke bottle. The sound was probably a wind mill thats what it sounds like any way.
That was some awesome footage and photography. I've always wanted to herp in Arkansas, even though I've been herping in Missouri's boot heel which has very similar swamps. a big difference however is the lack of gators up here hahaha.
Thanks! Arkansas is definitely a great place to herp. It was wild to drive down dirt roads out in the middle of nowhere. We try and make it down to Arkansas at least once a year.
