many people are obsessed and bounded by pentatonic kind of music. there is no way to show them this is music unless they try to understand this kind of music. it's no use to argue with people stranded by the beethoven and chopin kind of music, with all due respect to mentioned artists.
Maybe she has done us a service: perhaps WWwSK sounds to us like The Rite Of Spring sounded to that audience at the ballet premiere in Paris in 1913. ;-)/2
@1SquidBoy I used to think the same, now I really like it. By the way, it happened the same thing with other kinds of music, like John Zorn's Six Litanies for Heliogabalus and Khlyst Chaos is My Name.
@1SquidBoy You're right, I used the word "music", but actually in my everyday life I call it more properly noise or 'noise music' (which seems to be a non-sense). The italian term, "rumorismo", gives a better idea. My university studies covered also history of arts: at that time I wasn't yet fond of noise music and when I heard about Futurists and Luigi Russolo's noise experiments, I thought that they were just a funny thing, without future. Instead, noise music evolved in time!
@1SquidBoy no problem at all, my brother himself often call noise music garbage. :D looking at my youtube channel, one could think that I just listen to strange things, but it's not like that. Bye, have a nice day!
@1SquidBoy Music isn't one dimensional. What you're talking about is the generally accepted definition of it. Just because this doesn't fit the popular definition of music doesn't mean it isn't music. I see music as being very broad in its definition -- basically, anything that conveys emotion and thoughts by way of instrument. Here, vocals are being used like an instrument, so therefore it's a valid form of artistic expression. Would you think otherwise if this was done on a guitar? Most would.
I love that this is her debut, with an equally crazy 10 minute plus piece as it's companion. Ms. Galas proves it's very comfortable, existing on your own planet...
Sweet mama! That's overwhelming! Too bad we don't get to here the full thing...
The musical equivalent of this piece would be "Delirium Cordia" by Fantômas. Mike Patton's vocal antics are quite superb, and the mood created by the band and the many samples make for a really bad night's sleep. Cheers!
@howdoesitfeel As much as I love Delirium Cordia and Fantomas, this is nothing like it! From what I recall, Delirium Cordia barely even has any vocals on it - although it is amazing when listened to in its entirety on a good pair of headphones in a dark room; genuinely disturbing!
I clicked on the radio late last night, expecting some talk radio or smooth jazz, and it was halfway through this piece. Seriously, if you're not expecting it, it'll raise the hair on the back of your neck. Better in the middle of the night than any horror film.
I felt the same when I got in touch with this, and it's always stunning and charming to me (when I am in the right mood). I suggest you to try also Abruptum - Obscuritatem Advoco [...], perhaps You'll find it interesting, too.
Thank you so much for uploading this..... I found a small fragment of this AGES ago, back when Napster was free... it was just "MEATBALL.mp3" and I was maybe about 12, and I thought the filename was funny, so I was curious... I have NEVER been able to find out what on earth it was... this is absolutely riveting.

@rmf919 leave me alone.
Also, to each his own.
In my opinion, this isn't music.
In yours, it is.
Therefore, both of us are right.
Also, I would be disgusted the same if it was on guitar.

@ForcedToSignUp Why did you even respond to this 8 month old comment?
Also, way to call me garbage, you've brought yourself to the level you believe me to be at.
I am entitled to an opinion, so fuck you.
My opinion is that I cannot casually listen to a woman screaming. If I would like to analyze music, i'm sure this would make a great piece.
I already got into a flame war for this, which was quickly resolved. At this point, YOU are being the troll. Go away.

I remember, as a teenager, my friend and I went into Vancouver to buy rare vinyl records and some pot. I bought Divine Punishment and a gram of skunk.
Got home very late, very tired. I smoked a pinner, put on the record, and fell asleep.
I woke with horrifying dreams of being shackled and tortured in a dark dungeon, and the smell of dusty concrete was so vivid.
I classify Galas as 'heroin music'. Close your eyes and the music will paint a landscape, and a mood. Journey to another world.
