My favorite scene in a movie full of wonder and surprise. Wynn rules here. I've always felt Savalas was influenced a little by this scene in HIS scene in "Capricorn One."
This movie is great, don't reccomend it though as a comedy, just let them watch, our notion of comedy is a little biased becuase of todays style of humour.
The thing is, a deviated prevert saves the day....... temporarily. So the the ones who dislike this video are actually twits, who don't know how to shoot with their guns and what their bullets are for.
@Struckworld um pepsi changed there colors during WWII from yellow to red, white,& blue and sme of the money went to care package so, your a gay communist
Still insanely hillarious after almost fifty years. Keenan Wynn should have been given a gold medal or something for his acting in this scene. It's note perfect. Just the right touch of that good-old American by-the-book short-hair psycopathy.
@MOONSIP2 when in the world, movies like "grown ups" and "american pie: hole in one" start making their decent from the Great Cesspit of Shit to your local place of purchase, and you buy it and later you start gazing into your 79 inch flat screen TV, with anticipation for something other than 'Observe and Report' , and half way through the movie you realize that it's not gonna get funny, and your wallet had to sacrifice 30 of your precious banknotes... you've been burned with the same crap!
@MOONSIP2 50 years! I hope I can go to the theater January 29, 2014 and see the 50 year re-releases in theater for the anniversary. Well i hope they do that!
this is the crucial moment in this scene as property is the most sacred thing in our monetary system (more then a human life). those who own property (planet) those rule
-> watch?v=acLW1vFO-2Q
only property (not possession) can be used as a collateral to raise some chips (money). those who have acquired property have no reason to put is as collateral again which leads to the end of the game = gov. debt = depression = war.
What is it about this movie that makes the film look so good. I have seen numerous black and white films, but few that looked as fresh. I believe I first saw this movie on a DVD around 2005 or so and it looked as if it had been recorded yesterday.
Was it the improvement of film by 1964 or what? I'm thinking it may also have to do with the high contrast lighting. Even films from the 80's and 90's often didn't look this good.
have you ever seen barry lyndon? the lighting is so different but incredible!! it must be lighting and certain types of celluloid/ camera he chose to use. i never saw any other film maker make things as 'present as Mr kubrick did with the way he lit his films. Barry lyndon is all daylight and candlelight, yet its as crisp and intensely present as the look of Dr Strangelove, despite all the frosting.
My buddy would quote "Well you don't think I would go in to combat with loose change in my pocket do ya?" - when people would try to bum change off him. Only I would laugh.
"I think you're some kind of deviated prevert. I think general Ripper found out about your prevertion, and you were organizing some kind of mutiny of preverts."
"If you try any perversions in there" Lmao, wtf is he gonna do, jack off over the phone? "Oh Mr President *ahh* General Ripper *ooh* went CahRAZZY * uh uh uh uhhhh* he went CahRAAAZY....all over my petticoat."
You hear a lot about "product placement". I wonder just how far back it dates? Sen. Theodore Bilbo of Mississippi is quoted as saying, "I don't care what they say about me, just as long as they're talking about me."
I actually prefered the movie fail-safe, I never found Strangelove that funny to be honest but its still a classic, i think slim pickens steals it, quite ironic as Sellers dropped out of that part..
@harrysboy Both are fantastic movies. Strangelove was more of a sadistic humor piece that poked fun at the seeming human nature and inevitability to destroy ourselves.
As you know fail-safe is a serious look into the dangers of nuclear weapons. Both have two different morals, as you know. I am not sure which I like more. It is hard for me to decide. I guess I like them both equally, really.
@TheLonersManual the prob I have with strangelove is the effect it had on failsafe, i just think failsafe deserved a lot more credit than it ended up with which was a shame..
I love this film. Total classic. I mean you hear about the plot being a comedy about a nucleur war and you just think "are you mad?", yet somehow it worked.
This scene is definitely one of my favorites. I love the officers reactions to Mandrakes requests for change
"If you don't get the President of the United States, you're going to have to answer to the Coca Cola company"
Keenan Wynn was one of my favorites when I was a small kid from the series "The Troubleshooters" and it was great to see him get to do some satirical acting in Dr. Strangelove, holding his own with Peter Sellers, a master of satire.
