I don't care what the reason is my Uncle is a retired cop and he says he'd rather be tazzered then pepper sprayed. He has been both sprayed and tazzered cause of training and there is no reason that 18 year olds should be pepper sprayed and especially because they were only voicing their opinions.
I know I'm going to get hate for this, but the officer needed to make them move because they were committing a crime. Want to know which crime? Disturbance of the Peace. Blocking the road to the students who PAY tuition to go there.
@iHaveAnger I laugh at you thinking my logic 'fails', when it's apparent that most of the dirty hippies there aren't students at all. Most are just walk-ons, who saw some stupid liberal rally and now want to be a pain for the people who actually go there.
@Xdetr3kxX Okay, "dirty hippies"? Look at the way they're dressed, they look exactly like the students in the background. How can you tell the difference? I bet you've never been involved in a protest in your entire life. Not even a Tea Party rally.
@iHaveAnger I don't protest like these scrubs. You have to do it in a way in which it actually matters. You think these kids actually cared about the OWS movement? Of course not. They saw a way to have their debt eliminated at the taxpayer's expense, which is scumbaggary. This all came from a socialistic base, and anyone who openly identifies themself as a socialist needs to leave the US immediately. Like you.
@battledog13 AND they were told repeatedly what was going to happen (by the cops who were acting in a calm and collected manner). There is never an excuse to continue an action if you desire to not get peppersprayed, but know that you will be peppersprayed upon perpetuation of your action. Ever.
@battledog13 No, not enough said. They were suspected of breaking the law by police officers, which is sufficient by law for the police to make an arrest in order to detain them for a trial. The police however are not empowered to interpret the law and determine if someone has broken it, this requires the judicial branch of government and according to the united states constitution a jury of the accused's peers. This, obviously, did not occur before the police acted.
@centuryten wow. that logic is so flawed that i can't even believe it. by that logic, someone committing a kidnapping isn't suspect to being arrested by the police, and should only be apprehended after a judge gives the okay (which is, suffice to say, enough time for the kidnapper to do god knows what to the child). yeah, that makes total sense.
As a LOE officer, I am pretty sure you don't understand what excessive force really is. If you are a peaceful protester, we will have no problem. Once you cross the line by breaking the law or when the city says "Your time of protesting is over now leave." and you don't leave, this is when we bust out the OC Spray, taser, etc. This action continues until said disturbances of the peace are neutralized. Oh yeah, some helpful advice...Don't Feed the Pigs!
These memes about police brutality raise awareness- there are over 9000 people on the web who could care less about someting, unless it's funny. Hence, meme form get's the word around. I've learned from a lot of this that being tazed sounds a lot more pleasant than pepper spray, too. :P
@CaptJackofficer..dont do it on private property???the occupy movement closest to me was stopped because it was on a public property...(excesive force is really common...after all most cops are wannabe hero)do you really think hurting a random guy will stop a guy who wants to set fire to something(who didnt even see the random guy get hurt)???i hate cops because they usualy dont understand what theyre job is.cops create more problems than the criminals.
@DIVAD291@CaptJackofficer was talking about THIS video, not the movement next to your house. It would seem logical to discuss THIS video since everyone else posting comments here are doing so about THIS video.
police are there to dispense justice not to make judgments on whether they like the movement or not.
There was no reason to up the ROEs just because the protesters werent responsing. Ive been in such situations overseas, he did it because he felt they were insulting his pride.
@Weirdgus Whether you think the "movement" is a joke or not is neither here nor there. The officer used excessive force in a situation that posed no harm to his physical well-being and therefore deserves punishment to the full extent of the law. So, no, he was not "right" in his action, sir. However, you may just be a troll, purposely taking an unreasonable and unsupported pov to stir up reactions.
Personally, it's all perspective. We're seeing what the protesters want us to see, the cop "brutalizing" these "poor people". What if a cop had the camera? Would we see protesters attacking the cops? Throwing items? Possible weapons and guns? We're seeing one side and should reserve judgment until both sides are seen.
pepper spray was illegally used .. it is written , black on white, in every police manual that pepper spray should only be used in case of danger for the policeman or someoneelse.. it is a defense weapon . so using it against peaceful protester, sitting, is ILLEGAL .
@paskali79 but when a small number of cops are surrounded by hundreds of student it can quickly be become dangerous. have you ever been surrounded by people of similar size, who would rather see you gone then doing your job which is keeping the peace.
I for one would love to see what occured 10 min, 30 min, even an hour before the spraying. But that footage probly doesn't exist anymore, probly deleted. We've only seen what the protesters want us to see. They won't show you footage of them threatening to firebomb macy's, or when they suggest destroying millions of dollars of private property.
@Herichimo police officers get crap for things they didnt do...they also think that their pride is more important than the security of other people.to be fair they arent always wrong but they are most of the times...(true story:police officer speed up behind my dads car so my dad also speed up...the police officer arrested him..my dad couldnt argue because he had a plane to take but later he called to understand the situation and they said it was common practice to make quotas)
Cop theses days aren't real cops ..If Cops do this shit cause their afraid of the people ... and they should be there are more People then cops ..Stand up for what ya believe in but remember Violence in never an option...
What you don't see is the other video where the officer went to every single person he sprayed and told them politely that he would have to use pepper spray if they wouldn't move.
@lordpoee I also want to be clear, I believe that law enforcement has become dangerously unchecked lately, including its handling of OWS, I just don't believe that in this case the officer was "indiscriminately spraying without warning".
I personally think though that the rioters had it coming. They were warned 3 times to get out of the way, and they didn't. They were warned, could've avoided it, and now everyone's crying because some people got pepper sprayed when they could've moved. The protesters were asking for it.
@disagreer i agree DAMN those cops for taking orders damn it with out them our society would be so much better there would obviously be no crime if we didn't have cops to put the bad guys in jail we would all live happy and not have to worry about people coming in our homes to kill us at night i agree good sir FUCK COPS (sarcasm)
My opinion, I never realized images of Officer Davis PPing the protestors would be made into a Meme figure as a joke; (which i laughed on the funny things i saw), but at the same time as a powerful awareness such as images shown on 1:24. Soo, I would say to raise awareness.
@Rubberbandballer I agree, they expect something for nothing and are happy to point out the problems but have absolutely no solutions to the problems as the protesters themselves are costing the economy money while they aren't working. As for the cops the media shouldn't be too critical about their actions as they have a job to do after all the protesters were going against the law. It's a shame that these days police are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Did anyone watch what happened before this pepper spray? The students were being aggressive (they had surrounded the cops and wold not let them go unless they released those they had arrested - if you want to know more watch a full video) so the police used a non-lethal mild form of crowd control, it was not brutal I for one agree that it wasn't excessive.
I think what the cop did was over the top, the students did nothing wrong
Could you go AROUND the students? Yes
Could you AT LEAST ask them to move? Yes
Could you do something less on the offense than pepper spray? Yes
As you can see, the cop deserves to be fired for the unjustified use of the pepper spray on the students, for those of you who may not know, Pepper Spray, if in your eyes, can cause your eyes not to open for maybe days, and all snot currently in the nose comes out.
KnowYourMemes graciously asks our opinion: here's one. I don't think it belittles what happened to the students who were the victims of Pepper Spray Cop. I think that through humor, this very important political story/footnote of present time in USA (99% Population Now Between SNAFU and FUBAR), has actually helped spread the story around the globe, literally. Humor + Internet = Magic can happen.
They were illegally blocking a path and the officers even tried to DRAG them out of the way well before the pepper spraying. I'm sure I'll just be thumbed down, but the truth is, the ones to blame are the idiots who were having a little campout in the middle of a highly busy route
@Breakfast221 uh huh? well they have a right to protest peacefully. this means the cop had no right to pepper spray them. that would be like someone pepper spraying you for using your right to free speech to expose someone as a criminal. He had no right. You defending him makes thousands of people sick i'm sure.
@DarkJoker7 He definitely overused the pepper spray (even one time is enough to be excruciatingly painful). However, notice that nobody except those blocking the path were pepper sprayed. All of the legal protesters were not harmed, only those who were illegally blocking pedestrian traffic on that busy trail. The cops tried to verbally and then forcefully remove them, but to no avail, so they used pepper spray.
@Breakfast221 i don't think blocking the pathway was a problem if you pay attention they are in a huge circle around them...so EVERYONE was blocking the pathway. Nothing justifies him.
@DarkJoker7 The others were on the grass lawns around the path. The school has trails with grass between them. Standing on the grass does not block anything. The people in the path, however, were breaking the law. They act like the police did not warn them (or "threaten" them), but the police spent more than 10 minutes telling them to get out of there or they will be pepper sprayed and even tried to drag them away to avoid it. They made a choice to be pepper sprayed by staying there.
@Breakfast221 You know what the law is there for? It's to make sure the Government stay in power. People could have easily walked around the group, but apparently police brutality is completely necessary to get people off a path. They did not make the choice to be pepper sprayed because for them there was no alternative: they could not move away because then that would betray their beliefs and the police would have won.
@DarkLordEnzaemon On the other hand, if the police had not removed them from the path, the cops would not have been doing their jobs. Anything the police would have done would have been labeled as "police brutality" because the little guy always wins. I am not a big fan of the police, but I recognize the need for laws and regulations for the safety of the people. It's a great notion that we can all get along without the need for police "bullies" to tell us what to do, but it isn't realistic.
I think these kinds of meme's really help spread awareness. They are funny, but shocking. Plus, I didn't know about this event until a few days later when I saw one of my friends post a pepper spray cop meme on his FB page.
What they did was against the law, holding up police like that. They should have been arrested, the so called peaceful protestors were treated as peacefully as possible, it was an extreme act of restraint to not use means of brutish force like I would have suggested.
If you want to see the entire video of the event, watch the "UC Davis Pepper Spray - What Really Happened" video, I can't post the url for some reason, just search for it on youtube.

My opinion, I never realized images of Officer Davis PPing the protestors would be made into a Meme figure as a joke; (which i laughed on the funny things i saw), but at the same time as a powerful awareness such as images shown on 1:24. Soo, I would say to raise awareness.

Fuck the occupy movement. A bunch of whiny little bitches. The world owes you NOTHING. Earn your own way.
Rubberbandballer 2 months ago

Okay, there is a difference between using pepper spray in an appropriate situation AND SPRAYING IT IN PEOPLE'S FACES.
Besides, I thought pepper spray was more for self defense.
Pokefan2471 2 months ago
I think what the cop did was over the top, the students did nothing wrong
Could you go AROUND the students? Yes
Could you AT LEAST ask them to move? Yes
Could you do something less on the offense than pepper spray? Yes
As you can see, the cop deserves to be fired for the unjustified use of the pepper spray on the students, for those of you who may not know, Pepper Spray, if in your eyes, can cause your eyes not to open for maybe days, and all snot currently in the nose comes out.
Cop = Wrong
Whyit27 2 months ago
@Whyit27 The could not go around the students because the students had surrounded them, and the cops asked multiple times for them to move.

I'll plank to that any day!

They were illegally blocking a path and the officers even tried to DRAG them out of the way well before the pepper spraying. I'm sure I'll just be thumbed down, but the truth is, the ones to blame are the idiots who were having a little campout in the middle of a highly busy route
Breakfast221 2 months ago
@Breakfast221 uh huh? well they have a right to protest peacefully. this means the cop had no right to pepper spray them. that would be like someone pepper spraying you for using your right to free speech to expose someone as a criminal. He had no right. You defending him makes thousands of people sick i'm sure.
DarkJoker7 2 months ago
@DarkJoker7 He definitely overused the pepper spray (even one time is enough to be excruciatingly painful). However, notice that nobody except those blocking the path were pepper sprayed. All of the legal protesters were not harmed, only those who were illegally blocking pedestrian traffic on that busy trail. The cops tried to verbally and then forcefully remove them, but to no avail, so they used pepper spray.
Breakfast221 2 months ago
@Breakfast221 i don't think blocking the pathway was a problem if you pay attention they are in a huge circle around them...so EVERYONE was blocking the pathway. Nothing justifies him.
DarkJoker7 2 months ago
@DarkJoker7 The others were on the grass lawns around the path. The school has trails with grass between them. Standing on the grass does not block anything. The people in the path, however, were breaking the law. They act like the police did not warn them (or "threaten" them), but the police spent more than 10 minutes telling them to get out of there or they will be pepper sprayed and even tried to drag them away to avoid it. They made a choice to be pepper sprayed by staying there.
Breakfast221 2 months ago
@Breakfast221 You know what the law is there for? It's to make sure the Government stay in power. People could have easily walked around the group, but apparently police brutality is completely necessary to get people off a path. They did not make the choice to be pepper sprayed because for them there was no alternative: they could not move away because then that would betray their beliefs and the police would have won.
DarkLordEnzaemon 2 months ago
@DarkLordEnzaemon On the other hand, if the police had not removed them from the path, the cops would not have been doing their jobs. Anything the police would have done would have been labeled as "police brutality" because the little guy always wins. I am not a big fan of the police, but I recognize the need for laws and regulations for the safety of the people. It's a great notion that we can all get along without the need for police "bullies" to tell us what to do, but it isn't realistic.
