@jmadi89 He does an "It Gets Better" video and you think he's gay? Did you listen? He has a girlfriend. Not every hetero is a phobe. Well done Mr. Klein.
@nathanj06 the whole point of it gets better is for famous gays to show that life, indeed, does get better. it defeats the whole purpose if he remains closeted while doing that. the girlfriend thing is obviously mr klein being ironic
@jmadi89 No straight people have done It Gets Better videos? I must have missed something. And how do you know Klein is closeted, from personal experience?
Ciao Bello Ezra! I hope you won't mind a "Goy Boy" like myself, saying what a "Mitzvah" it is that you've added your most compelling voice to this project! Seeing that this message gets out
is personal, for as a young man, I lost someone I loved (Bobby Griffith/Prayers for Bobby) to suicide. Thank you, my favorite "Pundit, Left Coaster" for doing this!
@ezraklein The world is truly schrinking my friend! My Mom lives in Newport Coast, next to Irvine, and I now reside in a town right next to the one Rachael Madow grew up in!
Better comment about this campaign i heard so far ,very realistic and down to earth ,instead of hitting the emotions of who is watching you went to their reason, is sounds cold sure but you being real, straight to the point like real life always is ! well done
I hope this is not inappropriate, but Ezra is the hottest political pundit out there. Every time I see him on MSNBC in HD I freakin' love it. My God this guy is beautiful!!
Uh, start listening at :22. It's not easy discussing maybe not so great childhood experiences, thing we'd rather leave in the past. He overcame whatever discomfort he had about it because he thought it would help, and it has. Anyway, let's all vote Tuesday if we haven't already.
Actually, the great thing is that anyone (LGBT or not) who is being bullied can come away with the realization that "Hey, I'm not the only one" and "Yeah, it can better". The word is spreading thanks to Ezra and all the others who have shared.
You miss my point. There are lots of existing anti-bullying channels (e.g. yours, I suppose), but Klein didn't support them. He's only supporting this because it's in the news. And along the way he's diluting the basic message of "It Gets Better", which was not about stopping bullying, but about surviving a tough situation. It's like the Microsoft strategy of "embrace/extend": the original message is lost in a haze of cliches about bullying being bad, which we all already agree on.
You see, the thing about this video is that it doesn't mention LGBT teens at all. Are you gay, Mr Klein? The point about this project is surely that it is about LGBT people. If you're not, and you're just jumping on this project now that it's about "bullying", you're entirely missing the point. There are lots of anti-bullying initiatives, so why make a video for this one? Oh, of course... because it's in the media spotlight at the moment. This is the point at which this project jumps the shark.
@amylNRG I don't see why him jumping on the bandwagon is a BAD thing? Isn't it great that this guy wants others to be able to listen to him and feel BETTER about their lives?
It's bad because it dilutes the strength of the "It Gets Better" message, which is about helping LGBT teens cope with social pressures they face, only some of which are due to bullying. Suppose this is the first "It Gets Better" video an LGBT teen clicks: they'll just think "Oh, another anti-bullying thing. This doesn't help with all the anti-gay stuff I face at church. I guess "It Gets Better" isn't for me - the speaker doesn't even mention LGBT people." This video weakens "IGB".
Agency & autonomy are very helpful, if one is capable & lucky, for establishing equilibrium & success but such agency in the future is small comfort, I suspect, for the oppressed - today
To me the broader problem is that the prevailing tendency among the very, very young to indulge themselves in using the most shallow criteria when setting their hierarchical order is allowed to stand. This is NOT inevitable. Children can be acculturated to be nurturing, empathetic and less tribalistic.
My name's ezra and I'm gay too! Small world hahaha.

You remind me of the Wear Sunscreen song, where the guy is speaking in the awesome reporter voice about life tips and advice. You're hot, as well.

Well done. That couldn't have been easy to relive, but it offered valuable insight. I admire your courage, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
