Great video shame there's no guard to protect the completely open gaps in the unguarded time between initiating and the lock; any established martial artist would attack these gaps rendering the entire technique useless. On the first just circle inwards with the elbow grab his neck and pull him back and choke him out. On the second just place the right hand on the hip to stop the circle and throw with a legsweep into a choke with the right arm around the neck.
i am in complete agreement, there is a place not far from where this video was shot where they teach Aikido, Silat, Wing Chun, Muay Tai, and Wing Tsun, as an all inclusive program. Sounds complicated, but its pretty sweet
@nlmantis You're completely right, but what you fail to grasp (as almost everyone does) is that Aikido is not a combat martial art. The goals of an Aikidoka are very different from those of other artists. These techniques are just a physical manifestation of blending with hostile energy (be that physical, mental, verbal) and moving out of the way.
This is also just a demonstration. Aikido techniques can be condensed into much more aggressive movements that close the openings you've pointed out.
aikido is not a sett of techniques as many believe, it is also a princible of dynamic sphear .. where anything can be aikido as long as it is not braking the princibles of aikido
the samurai would do the throw when grabbing the armor but they would pretty much kick you in the balls not lay flat, those mother fucker shouldnt be wearing hakamas.
@YukoTheGreat tomeo nage, can be translated as stomach throw and somersault throw, it is a rear sacrifice technique where tori (the thrower) goes onto his flat back during the execution. But in this clip it is not tomeo nage, its almost a version of yoko wakare (side separation) but poorly executed
Pick up a copy of O. Ratti and Westbrooks's "Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere." It has some of the best definitions and depictions of Aikido techniques. It is not as good as a dojo, but it is a start

It can be. Various styles can differ quite a bit. I'm not familiar with it as part of my own style. What kind of aikido is this?

its a sacrifice throw (tomi nage) and the foot should be used to elevate and propel uke away from tori, mainly to stop him falling flat on top

Damn, I wish I could learn Aikido. Sadly, I'm poor and there aren't any places I could learn it at within a 4 hour drive.
