im not super into this band, but this is THE greatest song of all time. nothing captures a thought in time like this. everyone who has ever been over 5 years old feels this same way in late spring. you have a goal that you want to complete, you wanna build something. this song is so great.
Actually, to me they sound like a perfect anagram of Husker Du, The Replacements, Springsteen and Thin Lizzy. A weird combination, but very, VERY cool.
chrism01us: YAAAASSS! Exactly! That's it! I can sleep now. that's a pretty good rock 'n roll cocktail, eh? On tour again....seeing them April 2...makes spring come faster....."St. Joe Strummer......."
I was at the taping of this performance. It was short and sweet. Craig Ferguson wasn't eve there! They shot that seperately. Weird. The warm-up guy asked Craig Finn about his Grateful Dead sticker. It was funny.
They look exhausted. Still pretty dang good.

Does the intro to this song sound a lot like 'Hello There' by Cheap Trick to anyone else? It's probably intended, though, which is cool...

I like that combo too. but I'd have to add Lou Reed, to account for Hold Steady's talk-sing vocal delivery.

Yeah, especially the little piano break at 1:55m totally reminds me of the piano during the intro of Springsteen's "Backstreets"

not the jam as in the band, "the jam" as in the adjective clause, i.e., The Hold Steady is the jam. The total jam...
