i got an apple ipod touch 4g and a zune hd and i got to say i love the zune for music. its unbeatable, but i use my ipod for apps and web browsing more.

Zune has 4% market share, what makes you think developers will spend time and money and effort developing programs for this device when they can simple develop it for the ipod with over 70% market share and get money out of it? Lest be honest, you will only see microsoft's own apps in zune's apps library. Zune developers will be forced to place ads on their apps.
And then the pc fanboys say "yes but ipod apps are crap" well, so are android's; but the crap is always free.

That's probably why there are only 1st party apps on the Zune right now. Microsoft wants to gain the trust of other developers to show them that their platform can have decent sales in terms of apps. They want to build some momentum
They can't gain trust if they don't show a good ecosystem and seamless integration within their products; their versions of windows are not compatible with each other for crying out loud! They develop a totally different platform for each device they launch and usually incompatible with each other.
If Windows mobile and zune had the SAME OS both based on a good MS OS (just like Mac OS on iphone/ipod/appleTV).. same with the xbox.. would be different for developers.

Apple made the ipod touch not as an mp3 player, but basically the Mac version of a Windows Mobile PDA. Besides, the Zune HD is in an infant stage, if it had started when the ipod touch started, then it would be absolutely supreme.. The ipod touch itself isnt very expensive (though macs are WAY too expensive), but it is WAY overrated.

Windows 7 is a HUGE step up from vista, and shows how great Microsoft is when it shines. The Mac OS X is simply horrid. I have personally tried it and after an hour i wanted to throw the computer through the window. Note: I was never a huge vista fan either, but it was manageable. OS X, whether it be Leopard or Snow Leopard, is just plain not worth it. If i could actually buy a Mac for a comparing price to a PC of the same stats, i probably wouldn't, but it would make me more open to it. *Idiot*

Actually you must not know your history. Linus originally made Linux to get news feeds from his University. He disliked what his Uni was currently using, Minix. Linux then evolved through the open-source community. So calling it a rip-off isn't accurate.
I'll admit I want one, but I already know I'll be fucked a year from now. They'll improve the Zune HD making you feel like an idiot for buying this version. safari fails compared to chrome or firefox. safari's also a bigger battery drain than the other browsers, which is important for laptops.

Your logic states ms is copying something tried and true, which is bad. MS made UI improvements, just like how Apple made UI improvements over Nintendo DS, and this is why iphones and ipod touches are viable gaming platforms.

first of all I didn't lie. I just found out those tests come out different on every computer, and since people can put anything on wiki I would trust anything I see on there. And maybe in there test safari did drain the battery more, but maybe on the computers they used didn't have as long lasting batteries as on my and my wife's laptop. Safari will possibly drain more battery on a short lasting battery than on a long lasting battery.
well what can I say, what I got is true, my computer is running slow ass xp with barely any virtual memory, at least google chrome and safari make my computer seem fast. I am planning to get a mac and I do know how fast those things are. Just for fun look up Mac vs PC, it is a pretty good animation based off of transformers. Zune HD is pretty cool but I'll stick with my iPod Touch for now.
Both are great products but after using a Zune, I can firmly say that the interface of the iPod Touch will sure take sometime to beat and the App store (a working one) is available on iPod Touch.
Nevertheless, seems like a great device and seems like Microsoft is finally stepping up the competition. All good for the consumers ^^
I just checked the supported video formats for Zune HD and it only accepts Mpeg-4 and WMV. What is with this idiocy seriously ? Where the fuck am I meant to get HD videos in WMV format ? Is there any way to hack around this ?
I'm looking forward to this, after my ipod touch 2nd gen broke on me three times within 7 months (it didn't help that best buy also kept on sending broken replacements, but oh well).
The hd radio feature is a big plus for me, does anyone know if you can listen to the radio anywhere, or do you have to be in a wifi zone?
like the older zunes it just picks up the FM frequencys and you listen to it like as if it was a regular radio (with a headphone jack), no wifi required

Personally, I LOVE the Zune Software and prefer it over iTunes (or anything, for that matter). And, the Zune is such a great player. Plus, I like the Zune ecosystem. The users aren't mostly smug assholes with mysteriously huge egos.

Wow... Umm if you look at the spec sheet on the ZuneHD, there is a lot about it that is MUCH better than the touch. Well starting with the multicore processor with dedicated graphics chip, HD Video, OLED display ++++.. The only way to tell is when it comes out.
its not really a knock off, its an improvement of what apple put out. theres nothing else you can really do to make an mp3 player more intuitive rather than making it 3d or something but thats just crazy. They made it with the latest oled technology, hd radio, ability to get all the xbox live movie and video content which is the largest. and the beautiful and easy interface, certainly an improvement.

Windows 7 is a HUGE step up from vista, and shows how great Microsoft is when it shines. The Mac OS X is simply horrid. I have personally tried it and after an hour i wanted to throw the computer through the window. Note: I was never a huge vista fan either, but it was manageable. OS X, whether it be Leopard or Snow Leopard, is just plain not worth it. If i could actually buy a Mac for a comparing price to a PC of the same stats, i probably wouldn't, but it would make me more open to it. *Idiot*

The only thing wrong with OSX is that you can't run EXE's. That's it. Which you can easily still do with VMware, Parelels, Boot Camp, etc.

Actually you must not know your history. Linus originally made Linux to get news feeds from his University. He disliked what his Uni was currently using, Minix. Linux then evolved through the open-source community. So calling it a rip-off isn't accurate.

I'll admit I want one, but I already know I'll be fucked a year from now. They'll improve the Zune HD making you feel like an idiot for buying this version. They'll most likely make it smaller, add more gigs, and do something drastic to it. It's a shame knowing that If I buy this, it'll be severely outdated once next year rolls around. It already happened to me once - got the Zune 120 GB then next thing you know they announce the Zune HD.

why would you change something that's tried and true? it would be dumb to not make a touch media player. zune makes improvements overall. thats what the ipod touch did back 2 years ago (it made improvements on touch interfaces based on the DS). your logic is flawed.
safari fails compared to chrome or firefox. safari's also a bigger battery drain than the other browsers, which is important for laptops.

first of all I didn't lie. I just found out those tests come out different on every computer, and since people can put anything on wiki I would trust anything I see on there. And maybe in there test safari did drain the battery more, but maybe on the computers they used didn't have as long lasting batteries as on my and my wife's laptop. I am planning to get a mac and I do know how fast those things are. Just for fun look up Mac vs PC, it is a pretty good animation based off of transformers. Zune HD is pretty cool but I'll stick with my iPod Touch for now.
Both are great products but after using a Zune, I can firmly say that the interface of the iPod Touch will sure take sometime to beat and the App store (a working one) is available on iPod Touch.
Nevertheless, seems like a great device and seems like Microsoft is finally stepping up the competition. All good for the consumers ^^

I'm looking forward to this, after my ipod touch 2nd gen broke on me three times within 7 months (it didn't help that best buy also kept on sending broken replacements, but oh well).
The hd radio feature is a big plus for me, does anyone know if you can listen to the radio anywhere, or do you have to be in a wifi zone?

Hey we all have our preferences.
Personally, I LOVE the Zune Software and prefer it over iTunes (or anything, for that matter). And, the Zune is such a great player. Plus, I like the Zune ecosystem. The users aren't mostly smug assholes with mysteriously huge egos.
I've considered the Archos 5, but went with the Zune HD because I like what it has to offer and how it works overall.

im excited to see how this goes against the ipod touch. this mp3p looked laggy but its prolly still beta. ipods have a bigger screen but no oled screen... but at a screen size of 3in, i dont think thats a big deal. hd radio is a good idea but no one will use it if they have music. the fact of the matter is, will their be apps for it. microsoft should had put win mob on this and until they see that, the zune wont be nothing. maybe zune phone will be here soon lol... ipod/iphone ftw

Wow... Umm if you look at the spec sheet on the ZuneHD, there is a lot about it that is MUCH better than the touch. Well starting with the multicore processor with dedicated graphics chip, HD Video, OLED display ++++.. The only way to tell is when it comes out.

its not really a knock off, its an improvement of what apple put out. theres nothing else you can really do to make an mp3 player more intuitive rather than making it 3d or something but thats just crazy. They made it with the latest oled technology, hd radio, ability to get all the xbox live movie and video content which is the largest. and the beautiful and easy interface, certainly an improvement.
im just done with apple and every ipod i ever got crashed and messed up.the price is amazing too

I'd take an HD radio over some of the biggest gimmicks ever. MS also said that they are still working on gaming on the Zune HD. It also has animations and an interface that is easily beyond anything I have seen thusfar.
