I'm pretty sure they meant it as a homage and not an attempt to steal from Devo. The guitarist is fond of dressing like Angus Young and Eddie Van Halen which leads me to think they're just trying to pay tribute to their influences.

Apparently Toru just wants to retire. He's about 45, so maybe he's feeling, in the words of Danny Glover "too old for this shit"..I don't know. But it's weird that they're putting out new material until the last second. Usually when a band breaks up, they've been inactive for a while before the announcement

These guys really like taking classic tunes and mixing them up. This uses the riff from DEVO Girl U Want. Kappa Mikey is a rip on We Started the Fire by Billy Joel and Girl Friday is My Sharona. Great band, sad they split.

This is the most meaningful PV of Beat Crusaders for sure. It´s a very beautiful and sensitive tribute to Toru's ex-band friends, where he shows that he misses them a lot. It also represents the new beggining of the band, with the new and current members. Very well done, very touching! Love this PV!

@jackmcmorrow If you listen to a lot of their other songs, they have "nods" to other bands in their songs, take Japanese Girl for instance, the keyboard intro is from a Go Gos' song. They are just big fans and show it in their music.

Though you may be referring to some of the older stuff with the original band where i think they did use the masks, which had mouth openings and eye slits and stuff like in the videos.

Now though, they dont wear masks live.

indeed. The "current" lineup doesn't wear masks live, but they want everyone to go to their lives to see their true identities or whatever so they still cover their faces in all promotional material

they do, for like, little promo events, but when they are on tour, or doing a Zepp, it's them unmasked. They even do a special on Much Music (which you can find via this website) where Tahru says that they take off their masks at live shows.

That's what it is, I couldn't remember. And yeah, from what I remember, the original line up was the four guys, three in the pixelated pics and the lead singer of course, the other 3 left (not on bad terms), and this was the first video with the new line-up, what we now know as BECR. You can tell the story in the vid is the other guys leaving, and he's in a slump saddened by it, finds the new members online, and BOOM! New BECR lineup, and he is happy :D
