Check out the Pondering Pig blog, it talks about 1090 Page and other pre-"hippy" early stuff. One thing was for sure, his group of friends and San Francisco State types thought this was the coolest group going in the City. Great to see this post too, Thanks!!!
nice story ..... keep the music coming ..... i'll lend an ear, or i mean ears! ..... can't wait to hear some knew stuff ..... YOU CAN DOOOOO EEEAAAATTTT!
Thanks, lendalpitts!! I love seeing the old posters... very fitting while listening to great old San Francisco music. There were so many creative bands in SF back in the 60s... artsy, creative, fresh and different. Love it! Thanks, again!
In 1966, as stereo rock began emanating from San Francisco's before little-used FM stations, Levi's jeans took the leap toward addressing the growing "youth" (i.e., hippie) market, the company chose two SF bands to sell their product: The Sopwith Camel and The Jefferson Airplane. I think the bands had a role in writing the material, because the ads were hipper than the normal commercial fare.
When I went to the record shop in Greville St., Prahran, Victoria, Australia, two years ago and asked the assistant to play the Sopwith Camel album, a strange thing happened.
A woman came from out the back of the shop and asked the shop assistant, " who asked to play Sopwith".
To the hippes in Chaucer St St Kilda who introduced us to this music just a short while back LOL
Thank you for this, Ive seen their name on some of my favorite posters from the era, I was born in 66 but always wondered what this band sounded like. Now I have to find more! Great video !!!
Heard the song Postcard only once on the radio when I was about 15 (I'm 62 now) and I tried to find it on record ever since .... so happy I finally could find it through this video ! Warm thanks for posting this

@52appaZ In the early `70's, they became more of a jazz rock band.

I remember "Postcard from Jamaica". It reminded me a little of Donovan.
