I found 2 oarfish washed up on the beach here.took a bunch of pictures of them and dragged them back into the sea and they drifted away gracefully in the gentle outgoing tide, shining silvery skin, no scales, big blue eyes, a crest of red hairlike tuft along the top ridge of its back, a gelatinous-like mouth, they were about 12 and 15 feet long, the tail ending in an oarlike way.ask me, I will send you pix. Few people have ever seen one. I also know a guy who swam with a live one that was dying

wow i need to go. oarfish is definitely the reason asians have the belief of sea dragons. also oarfish are discovered more frequently in asian waters than in U.S. waters. during the big tsunami, a few oarfish got washed up. you can youtube to see them.

Fact: The Oarsfish goes up to the surface when it is dieing. So this one was probably found dead or halfdead.

WOw these things are massively long lol. I've seen some pictures of live ones, and trust me they look a LOT better alive. They have beautiful patterns running down their bodies that fade shortly after death (which is why this one looks so darn ugly). They're quite rare, though not as rare as one of these earlier comments would have you believe lol. Encounters with live ones are the rare thing, dead ones wash up on beaches fairly often.
