  • Jame Darren Officer Jim Corrigan of the hit show T J Hooker with William Shatner and Heather Locklear and Andrian Zmed! I grew up as a young child listening to this song In the middle 60's Rock On.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.10 in the world charts #james #darren

  • I love the production on this early 60's stuff.

  • I remember this song from 1961 when my brother left his clock alarm radio on when he left early for school and "Goodbye Cruel World" played while I was sleeping. When I woke up and went to school, I told my classmates about hearing this song and I practically had the words memorized. One of my favorites.

  • james darren was soooooooo..................handsome saw him on american bandstand singing this song just a cute song.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.7 in the world charts #james #darren

  • i remember hearing this song on Casey Kasems top 40 radio show when i was a kid traveling to florida with the family. def. brings back memories

  • loved it since i was a kid

  • I was singing on TV when James was singing at the Royal York in Toronto he came backstage and encouraged me made a BIG DIFFERENCE thank you JIMMY

  • A side note: seeing the "Colpix" label reminded of the days when every movie studio had its own record label: MGM Records, Columbia Pictures, ABC Paramount, Warner Bros. Records, MCA/Universal, and so on, in addition to the regular labels such as RCA, Mercury, Capitol, Decca, etc.

  • hey! i looooove James Darren! i'm trying to find the song "all" from his Best Of James Darren album...do you know where i can find it?

  • In Chile 1961, Girls in Santiago, bikini in Valparaiso beach!!! Wow what a memories! God I am dying !!!!!

  • Great memories.. I used to put my head nest to the speakers and sing :) thnx for the :) Happy 2011

  • Childhood memeories:) LOVE IT! HAPPY 2011

  • This is such a good song it makes me sad that I wasn't alive at the time it came out.

  • Not only was James Darren a great singer, he also starred in Irwin Allen's The Time Tunnel. It lasted only one season. And I know he was a regular on T.J. Hooker.

  • Still remember when this song was popular. My mother received as a gift from her boss a little porcelain figure that had an older lady sitting on a toilet pulling on a chain, and when one assisted pulling on the chain the old lady would go you know where. The toilet had the words, "goodbye cruel world" on it. Very memorable!

  • Thank you for this upload.. I had the 45; recognize the label! Wonderful song!

  • I also remember the Donna Reed show with this song. He was riding in the car when the song comes on the car radio, and sings along with it. If I recall it correctly, he was wearing a US Army uniform. Somebody musat have this clip to post. Please!

  • James Darren is the man for singing this awesome song while later starring in Match Game...Always had a sensible answer...Poor guy had to sit next to Brett Somers...R.I.P. Brett

  • Typical atmospheric sixties sound !!...., sooooo good !!

  • Great Circus Song!!

  • "Goodbye, cruel world!" - Hubie & Bertie (Cheese Chasers - 1951)

from WB's Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes

that hilariously funny expression would show up in other cartoon character monologues (Daffy Duck? Bugs Bunny?) song lyrics and like-named songs

spent a lifetime, when sad, reminding myself with those words and how NOT to die by it

as a lonely child, watching cartoons was all i had for words of wisdom

  • Can anyone tell me if they remember seeing James Darren sing this on The Donna Reed Show. The episode was called "One Starry Night". Does anyone have this episode on video or on dvd ? I would really like to see it. Anyone who knows where I can get it - Please write back to me. Thanks.

  • @50s60steenidols I remember seeing that episode - James Darren was riding in a convertible with the top down with the son. I never could find anyone else that remembered it! I'd love to see that again too. Sorry I can't help you find it :(

  • @taliesinjones Thankyou so much for writing back. That episode was from season 4 of Donna Reed. I wish they would release the 4th season on DVD. You must have been a little kid when you saw that episode. It originally aired in October 1961. I am 51 and have never seen it. I would love to see it one day. Thankyou for telling me about it. It was so nice to hear from you. Jay

  • @50s60steenidols Jay - Do you know what is on the flip side of GCW? I hate to have to dig thru my 45s to find out LOL YT has quite a few clips from the old shows if you search Donna Reed. I'm 59 so I remember it well. Thanks for writing! Tena

  • @taliesinjones Hi, the flipside to this record is Valerie...I'm planning on upload it aswell but haven't got around to it yet..keep on rockin'

  • @taliesinjones It is so nice of you to write back. You Tube doesn't have that clip. You had to be 10 when you saw that episode.Valerie was on the flipside. Tena, did you see the episode where Paul Petersen sang "She Can't Find Her Keys". I would love to see that also. Thank's again for writing. Jay

  • @taliesinjones I'm also 59! Always watched Donna Reed and love James Darren. This was one of my favorite songs...still is.. So many great songs at that time.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy Darren years ago while working at a Variety Club telethon here in Philly... what I remember most was that he was very down to earth and approachable. Not like some of the so-called "celebrities" I met at these events.

  • nice ...small hit in england...top post as ever

  • ive never really liked oldies but after hearing this on my grandmas radio i love all oldies this is a great song and thank you for making a vid for it

  • I first learned of James Darren when I saw him as Vic Fontaine in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I instantly liked him, but I had no idea he was really as good as he is! Thank you kindly for this.

  • Ah...memories... great song. Thanks.

  • Thanx pvrocker56. I've enjoyed this song for decades but I know what I've missed now...the stereo. It sounds better than ever!

  • canzone simpatica anche successo italiano di Peppino di Capri "addio mondo crudele"

  • Had this 45, about 1000 years ago! Thanks for the memories. 10+ stars!

  • That "calliope" in the background is actually a woman singing (I read that somewhere)

  • @ShadowCarve ...Correct. She also wrote the song.

  • Love James Darren!

  • Did Pat Boone do a version of this?

  • Great rocknroll classic!

  • I adore this song! THANKS so much for posting it! In addition to being a fine actor, James Darren had a pretty good singing voice. Can't think of any other top ten hit that had a calliope in it! It's such a fun tune. You've made my day & my week! I hope you & yours have been having your HAPPIEST holiday season ever! :)

  • omg moondoggie!

  • @JubalCalif You forgot to mention that James Darren was a hunk.

  • @ekocentric

You are so right; the talented Mr Darren is indeed quite a handsome chap. Thanks for your post! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

  • do you have james daren pin a medal on joey ?

  • Hey, yeah I had it posted here a few months ago but there was a proplem with the copyright for some reason so the Youtube staff took it away so unfortuanetly I can't keep it posted...keep on rockin'

  • ok thanks any way

  • @greaser1993 I think you can get Pin a Medal on Joey on I Tunes. That is one of my very favorite songs by James Darren. You should get his best of cd. That song is on there and you would like all the songs on it. Sincerely JAY.

  • Thanks from James Darren's #1 fan!!

    Shey

  • Thanks "YouTube"

  • If a song was made nowadays with the title "Goodbye Cruel World" it would be all emo and sobbish, this song is just awesome though.

  • Thumbs up from Morrissey!!

  • Gloria Shayne Baker who wrote the song also was the the calliope-like riff used in the song. She did it on the demo that Jimmy Darren heard and on his recording and they just kept it as it sounded so real. Wow, some range.

  • I remember this!! I was a no-neck nose-picker in elementary school when this came out!!!! Still like it. Thanks for this gem.

  • one of his best. I am looking for Her Royal Majesty also by James Darren and can't find it anywhere.. Its a good song too.

  • One of my favs! You have made my ears so happy. 5 stars/favs!
