  • Secret fires...perfect!

  • this is Keith Morris best friend Jeffery Lee Pierce

  • Perfect.

  • this was on the cassette issue of Las Vegas Story..

  • Beautiful song<3 :')

  • Such a good fucking song, so beautiful.

  • pure perfection

  • No doubt it had changed from the original. But this is what JLP wrote.

  • I took my razor blade I layed Old Rebeun in the shade and I heard the radio moan I took my place in the hills jagged with the secret fires I called you through the valley down along the wires With dust upon the sands came the first day of the year I saw the house where no one lived, on a black land and under a red sky you washed my hair and skin against the firelight so touch me through yous screen door I want to remember you we struggled the year we lived in secret fire
  • O-key here it is direct from "Go Tell The Mountain." The autobiography of JLP. Touch me through your screen door I want to remember you. They that seek behind me against the moon Recall how we used to ride juiced underneath the power lines in the inferno valley when your daddy was alive I worked with dirt in my eyes old blood on my wound dreaming aloud of seeing you soon I came home from day at the mill I came home and cared for you the year that we lived in secret fire

  • It was a bonus song on the Las Vegas Story Cassette not on the Vinyl.

  • Wow - I didn't think there were any such quality Gun Club songs I hadn't heard.

    Thanks for posting it.

It wasn't on my vinyl Las Vegas Story.

This sounds to me like it was recorded during the MIAMI sessions.

  • Interesting, this song is on the tape I purchased in1984. Didn't know it wasn't on the album. Don't worry, exeuroweenie, we are not old, just privileged to have experienced great music when the musicians were still alive!

  • @loudenblogger You're so right.Happily,it'll always be a privelege that feels current.

  • Super mellow song...

Dan u get all wet when you here this song huh? lol

  • Thanks so much for posting this.Unfortunately this wasn't included in my copy of Las Vegas Story.Such a stunning song,on a level with Breaking Hands.

  • No problem, it's a great song; I think Secret Fires was included only on the CD re-release of The Las Vegas Story some time in the 1990s, so you must have an early copy - treasure it!

  • Hah,I got the album when it was released in '84.I still have my hearing, but it still makes me feel old.

  • Impressive, right on it back then - don't worry, there's always someone older somewhere...

  • Since I discovered this song, I heard it every day several times. It just doesn't get out of my head!

But: the lyrics aren't quite right - has anybody an idea where I can get the proper ones?

Thanx though anyway for posting it - great!

  • You're quite right - I admit I copied them from another site without checking. I've transcribed them myself now, should be about right.

  • Yeah, thanks! I wasn't sure about it - but your transcription seems very good. Great!

  • I swear, Secret Fires has to be one of my favorite Gun Club songs ever. "Beautiful" is really the only word I can think of to describe it. Just amazing in every way imaginable...
