so, he matches to the big boy's league but Hamilton, who kicked his ass in McLaren doesn't, very interesting... Alonso is a good driver, probably one of the best from the current grid. But i have no idea, why everybody says he is the best on the grid. There are some drivers who are at least equal with him. He scored WDC twice, but this kind of achievement doesn't depend of skills only
@sivshy He won championships without team orders (vettel), without glock letting him past to win by one point (hamilton) without massa giving up his home win (raikkonen) and without barrichello being second fiddle (schumacher).
And he won his championships with at least one race in hand.
Glock did not let Hamilton past, his final lap was almost identical to his team mate, who was also on dry tires, get over it. He won championships without a pre-determined second driver? He left Mclaren because they would not make Hamilton one of them, he was the un-questioned number one at Renault like Schumi was at Ferrari, and now cannot handle it when Massa challanges him.
In 2007 (and 2008, albeit the other way around) Ferrari and their drivers decided pre race to assist each other...
your post is just... so full of wrong its saddening! Course glock didnt let him through. Its called Cynicism. But, Lewis did have a pre-determined second driver? Explain why on nationa television Kovalainen was told that 'lewis is faster than you' and he moved immediately out the way? Hamiltons doing great at mclaren right now, isnt he? I mean, having best part of 4 penalties and 4 accidents. I mean, superb. You say alonso threw his dummy out in mclaren, lewis is now.
@alucardv2 No, he did not have a pre-determined second driver, Kovaleinen simply was not fast enough to run with him the majority of the time and was only ahed in Hocjenhiem because of the teams screw up, and was over 1.5 seconds a lap slower. Hamilton has had 1 accident that was his fault alone; the one with Webber in Montreal. The Monaco penalties were idiotic, even Williams admit the collision with Maldonado was a racing incident >_>
@MetaKnightsKirby I get sick of reading people with complete lacks of intellect. I mean, Kovalainen was automatically second driver, heikki said it himself. he was a pre-determined number 2. And he wasn't 1.5 second slower, he was being held up by Piquet Jr. Hamilton had 4 penalties, for 4 accidents, which were all by himself.
And it wasnt a racing incident, he went for a gap which never existed, he would never have made the corner without cutting the damn thing. So go and educate yourself.
@alucardv2 What? Kova was a few seconds behind Piquet, not being held up by him at all; he simply was not fast enough. If he was ever number 2, it would be after Hamilton blitzed him throughout 2008.
Nope, 1 that was his fault. Massa reacted to Webber's mistake at the hairpin and was greated by Hamilton who had laready comited to the move; racing incident. Maldonado made 4 changes of direction down the straight and turned in far to early, Hamilton had comited and had nowhere to go. [continued]
So, Maldonado's fault. Hamilton understeered into Webber at Montreal; his fault (Kobayashi has got away with worse). With Button, Button makes a mistake and CHECKS his mirrors and then makes a rather sudden change of direction to get to the left of the track... where Hamilton is targeting. He couldnt see Hamilton? Nonsense, they can hear the other cars; that is how they judge it in wet often. Was he blocking Hamilton? No. Was he trying to guard the inside line for turn 1? Yes. Racing Incident.
@alucardv2 Not only skills decide, who wins the championship. It's a load of many different things. His achievements are awesome. He is definitely one of the most reliable and fastest drivers on the grid.
Hamilton has different advantages than him, and different disadvantages too. In my opinion he's better in the pure speed and overtaking. Definitely more entertaining. The points they score decide, who is better and the fact is that he got more of them as a rookie. More than a double champ!
@sivshy care to revise your assesment on hamiltons overtaking skills! lol.
Hes never made so many mistakes. From Monza 2010, Hamilton has made 4 mistakes in trying to overtake and 2 mistakes in defending. All the similar kind.
@alucardv2 those errors were not about the lack of skills to overtake, but lack of skill of staying cool and waiting for a good moment. This is the element, where Alonso is better. They are different kind of drivers, Alonso is fast but considerate, Hamilton is faster but not considerate at all.
He just doesn't hesitate to make a move and sometimes it costs him a lot. But that's why I enjoy watching him. If we had more Hamiltons, we would not need no DRS or other artifical "attractions".
@sivshy But watching F1 because of Hamilton not staying cool and crashing doesnt make it enjoyable. DRS is crap. It should be skill. But lewis doesnt judge things, let alone be aware. Look at this weekend. He caused the koba crash, maldanado was an arsehole, but lewis swerved into him twice.
He will never win another championship like that. His best season was 2007, his first season. instead of improving he has gone backwards and gotten worse.
@alucardv2 I like to watch warriors. Man, It's not chess.
When Lewis had a championship winning car, he was able to let it go, when he had to. But he had nothing to loose for the last three years, so he took the risk. Sometimes it caused crashes, but it is the sport.
People want to see overtaking, but when somebody tries and something goes wrong, he is called immature or whatever.
They are like Senna and Prost. Two different personalities. That's why F1 is awesome.
@sivshy Thats where your wrong. It is like chess, quite often. Senna and prost are two entirely different entities. Prost played F1 like chess. Senna played it similarly with aggression. The difference is, lewis ISNT senna. The cars arent those of the 80's where overtaking and strategy won a race. Modern day F1 is so reliable, and car performance is the dominant factor. Alonso and lewis are clearly the best drivers. Alonso edging it. But they dont have a car capable of winning races consistently
@alucardv2 Now, which one is considered as the better driver, Senna or Prost? Driver>Chessplayer. I really miss the times, when the better driver won the championship. Not the better chess player. This kind of approach makes the spectacle boring and forces FIA to introduce some stupid features like DRS.
@sivshy lol. F1 can be drove in two ways. What decides it, is the rules. Senna's way AND prosts worked. Nowdays, a more calculated, strategic and conservative approach is required because of the tyres wearing scale. Infact, strategy is dictated by tyres, which I dont like. I much prefered 2005, long lasting tyres with no changes. I like the no refuelling. and then have no tyre changes and just go for pure driver and car.
@alucardv2 I agree with the tyre issue. Drivers should push hard through all the distance to show, which one is faster. Now they play chess. The rule that limits the number of tyres per weekend is stupid too, a situation when some of the drivers give up qualifying to get a better race strategy is so dumb. There are many changes in the racing order, but they are random. That's why I'm starting to get more interested in different series
@sivshy just look at schuey. qualified 21st and finished 5th because he had tyres at his disposal. Rosberg lead the race at the start, and finished 6th. If youve got the car underneath you, you can easily qualify last and get points. Otherwise, midfield teams qualify in the top 10, but often, dont get points, its the teammateswho save the sets of tyres. Similar to Alguesari.
@alucardv2 So, how much depends of the driver now? The more gentle you are, the better result you can score. Where is racing? Racing considered as putting the car on the limit. FIA wants show, but they go wrong way. If more would depend of the drivers, gaps would be bigger and the overtakes would take place. A standard or sequential gearbox (shifting errors), hard tyres (going on the limit), less advanced suspension (harder to drive). that would be enough to get more fair battles.
@sivshy good question. To be honest, if you look at vettel he is just driving the car. He very rarely races people successfully. If you look at Alonso, even jenson theyve done some great overtakes. The problem is, how many of them are gimmicks and set up because of DRS? DRS is a complete joke.
@alucardv2 Well, Vettel didn't get too many opportunities to overtake this year, because he was usually ahead and just had noone to pass. But in general, he looses his cool when he feels the pressure from another driver. He's still damn fast, but he hasn't proven, if as fast as Hamilton or Alonso. I doubt it.
DRS as well as Pirelli tires made the F1 loose its spirit of competition. They don't need to challenge the others in a fair battle, when they can just turn on the wing
@sivshy Exactly. Look at some of the great overtakes like Alonso on schuey in suzuka, On massa at the european GP 2007, look at thegreat ones hamilton has pulled. All they do now is drive around people. Its worse than british touring cars with the imparity between NA engines and Turbo
@alucardv2 What hurts the most is this year's race in SPA. It was always the circuit with the greatest overtakes of the season. This year they were just driving around each other. Webber's move on Alonso was great, but I'm afraid It's one of very few good overtakes of this season.
Webber can not be the fastest guy on the grid, but his balls are huge. Alonso's too, but one of them had to retreat.
@sivshy Well look today though, The mclaren is a better car than the ferrari and the Mercedes, but even with DRS lewis couldnt get past. vettel got past alonso by being brave on the outside, but I dont mean it wrong, he pulled out such a gap with short ratio's it was still candy from a baby. Even for button to get ahead of Alonso, the ferrari is just crap. mclaren dont have the car. Redbull still has a large advantage, and the DRS does nothing on a straight when the carinfront has a second a lap
He doesn't qualify for the big boy league yet? I wouldn't say I'm a great fan of Alonso but he is a double world champion! What the hell else does he have to do to be part of the 'big boy league', lol.
Me too. I saw nakajima went off in the gravel, bourdais and kubica spin at variante ascari. it was extremely wet but still amazing atmosphere and beautiful area.
You gotta admire Alonso's smoothness on the wheel even in the terrible conditions thats what makes Alonso the best driver in F1 at the current time even though results dont show it and 3rd greatest ever after Schumacher and Senna
Alonso is better then Jim Clark, Prost, Fangio and Stewart? Really.. grow up mate. Alonso is SUPREMELY awesome, but with just 2 titles he isn't quite with these boys yet.
@dombou70 Wait next years to see ending Alonso's career, he can win more championships and with her numbers, now is one of the Top10 driver's history.
now they would cancel qualifications

@sivshy I prefer prost. He played a calculated game but he could also overtake. He was a fantastic driver and very capable.
Senna was very banzai, it worked for him alot, but in modern F1, it doesnt work like that no more.
