Where is Q daddy these days. I have not seen or heard from him in a while. Of course I have not seen or heard from anyone except Spain-san since Sensei passed.
SWEET. I've never seen Karate like this before. I wonder if this style is related to Fukien White Crane stuff... Anyways, just interesting to see, I had always thought of Karate as being much more rigid.
Nice kata. V.Interestng comment regarding Maezato no Tekko. [sp.?] My understanding is that Maezato no Tekko came from directly from Taira Shinken and to my knowledge there is only the one Maezato kata [Maezato was Taira's family name] The kata shown starts exactly the same as Maezato no Tekko but neither RKHSK in Japan or Okinawan practice a Maezato Ni to my knowledge which suggests a different source. I'd be interested to know more. Yours in Budo.
Actually, Quezada Sensei taught Maezato no Tekko at my dojo. I also have footage of Odo Seikichi doing Maezato no Tekko. This footage was taken at Camp Foster in 1990. Respectful Hands, MH
Your historical assesment is very accurate. Very nice kata nevertheless. I would also like to know who developed this kata, ofcourse it has both clasical influence of Shorin and Goju typical of the RKKHSK within the Tekko exercises. Interesting and nicely performed. Please share some light on this.
Odd, I learned this kata directly from Odo Sensei as Miyazato No Tekko Ni There are some slight differences in the section with the back stances as well.
I believe the RHKKF listed it as Kakazu, but O'Sensei always used Miyazato Ichi and this one as Ni, I believe he said the two White Crane kata (I see you have a vid posted of him doing Ichi) came from Miyazato as well.
Hey, G-Man. Call me with the details on the question. I'll ask Butch and get back to ya. I trained with Master Odo once in a while over the 12 years I spent in OKI, along with some of his best people. Wonderful man...amazing karate master. AS for differences...one master may teach many students differently as he sees fit...
I'm due to give you a phone call anyway, brother. My phone has been messed up and I had to get a new one. Quezada sensei has quite a bit of time with Odo and J"B"S sensei as well, and I am in contact with both, though only occasionally lately. I'll call you ASAP. Budo Love, Bro.
Hey #1 Bro--Mike Quezada sensei is another Bro who is the real deal. He is a Columbus, GA boy, flying with the USAF on his last tour in the Middle East. think he is retiring to Columbus. He's spent his time in Okinawa and a good tour in Hawaii--Actually had Odo sensei in his home when he fell ill. He is also a good friend of Julian "Butch" Spain Sensei. We will be trying to keep it strong here at my dojo. Hoping to see you soon. Love ya, Miss ya, Uedo Kuroninja. TALK SOON.
Wonderful Kata. Absolutely wonderful OSU!

I will recheck the kata. Quezada sensei did Maezato no Tekko with us while he was here, as well. I will correct it or clarify ASAP. Thanks.
