I don't really think we'll be seeing any WWI FPS games out soon, because compared to WWII, it was primitive, and all fought in mud and trenches. I just don't really think you can make a game out of WWI like you can WWII...

you're right, but first it was a map of battlefield 1942, which 1943 will essentially be, except with better graphics. You'll notice that all of the crashed zeroes that were present in BF2 aren't there. It's a new map, new concept. Who knows how they're going to change it.
