In my expirience, double whip is really difficult to be decent at, let alone "master" I cant tell you how many chain-link shaped bruises ive acquired over the course of studying that weapon set.
chain whip is hard but not the hardest to master, but it's power is sufficient. If you are walking down a dark alley and somebody grabs you, you know that you have your chain whip concealed in your hands and strike the upper body. A few whips will do to get away.
wouldn't a chain whip be grossly inefficient at that range?
i would assume if you were to use any type of weapon in a dark alley, it would be either a gun or a knife.
and i don't really see the chain whip being a practical self defense weapon in general. it just seems like a chain whip 'master' could be taken out with a well aimed baseball to the head.
@AznTwizt Wow....I see you don't understand the element of surprise. Whip weapons are the truth. Take it from someone who survived a Iron whip vs a knife.
Someone attacked me with a knife and i hit him maybe 7 or 8 times before he understood what was going on and decided to run. He didn't see it coming, and I pleaded with him to leave me alone cause i knew I had the upper hand.
Understand that in Kung Fu..they just show possibilities and the art of it..I just pulled out the whip and began beatin
@LordKaseem so you were walking around with a whip weapon(?)... then someone tried to attack you with a knife... and before they stabbed you (or flung it at you), you pulled out your weapon and struck him with it 7 or 8 times... then he ran away?
you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but i still don't see it being too practical. it just seems too unwieldy and unpredictable for an effective cqc weapon with out years of diligent training.
@AznTwizt ...because I didn't twirl it like knunchucks...I got right to business....here is the kicker....I saw the dude like 5 months after...he was now a religious man...who apologized for attacking me...I even gave him a ride home...he just kept saying.."God works in mysterious ways.
well they are not HARD (untill you hit yourself), but I wouldn't go as far as saying they are the easiest. I think it's just getting over that you have a chain twirling around your head that makes some people a little nervous. My Sifu for instance, he hated chain whip!
This is what Soul Calibur's Ivy's movements were based off of.

Generally, chain-whip masters would know how to disarm an opponent from a range.

arent those one of the hardest weapons to master?

my personal opinion is that the rope dart is the hardest to master but the chain whip(single or double) is definitly not easy.
