How would you go about making a game like colorcube? like making the cube turn as it does because I've been trying to use torque and it's been over turning and not stopping after 1 turn. Thanks!
is there a way to get glass to be transparent without haveing to render it :o.. cuz for what iam animateing i need to see inside his glass helmet to animate his face
@TheUnderDo6s =/... yeah tht would work too but id really likle to be able to se the object and see trough iot XD if anim8or can do tht i dont see why blender cant =] is basically what iam saying
oh damn, i had made a model of a wine glass, cuz i like glass models, but i forgot how to make it look like glass, well i remembered the transparent part but i forgot to make it reflective also, so thats why i watched this video but anyway it actually looks like 100% real, if it werent in a fake box you would think its a picture lol
Great tutorial series, only something is little wrong with the shadow. Glass looks real but it is not transparent. I played with alpha channel to smooth the shadow and it looks good.
Surely I hope you are joking... because his rendered rather slowely. Mine renders about 2 times as fast as his.... if yours goes any slower, just stop now... when you get to animation and particles, it could take days to render a simple scene.
the reason why blender closes when you exit the blender render is cause you clicked the X too many times. but you have to wait to the render finishes before you can exit the render. same with animate. wait until it gets all of the frames
I've been trying to use this method to make a simple window, but the frame turns to glass as well. Why is that? (frame is off to the side on part of the glass yet.)
Tab from Edit mode to Object mode to create the glass as a new object. Hit "n" key to bring up "transform object" window and name your object in left hand field that names the type of mesh you used. Gryllus has a blender.blend that changes your default window where your list of objects remain in view for better control. (Like Adobe photoshop has for layers.)
To move something to a different layer, select it when out of Edit mode and press "M" on your keyboard then select the layer you would like to move it to.
just select the object. press f5. then pres the buton ray transparency. then drag the slide that says fresnel on it higher for more transparency. light can go through.
umm... when I do the ray mirror and ray transparent and change the alpha I don't get a clear, glassy look. Instead I get a light blue sphere. I followed all the directions too. Do you think its the version?
Ohh boy! Thanks dude! You've really helped me! I was creating 4 glasses and I didn't know how can I make glass, so I found your tutorial man, thanks a lot!!! See Ya! 'xD
but, if i want that the shadow looks like really glass shadow, i mean that shadow looks like a normal object shadow, but is different obuously in a glass. My English is a little strange jajaja thanks for all the help....
I now know how create a 'room'. I also now know that you can scale by point numbers. Also now know about the 'material' and 'transparency' panels. Not sure what IOR means though. Thanks for the tutorial. Keep up the good work :)
umm.. my buttons are changed around, but i did get everything like you said, but the sphere went completely blue just when i put alpha in 0, why is that ?
Two things. 1) Instead of using Z transparancy, standard procedure for creating glass is to use a combination of Fresnel (This is the main one) and Fac (blending factor) in the Ray Transp Panel. This causes the glass to absorb more light at more direct viewing angles, and be less transparent when viewed at an extreme angle, as you would expect. 2) In order to have the glass not cast a solid shadow on the cube, TraShadow needs to be enabled in the CUBE'S material settings.
Enable "TraShadow" on the shader of the material in the room box, that'll lighten the shadow of the glass ball. If you want caustics you'll want to use Yafray or export to some other external renderer that supports photon mapping.

2) In order to have the glass not cast a solid shadow on the cube, TraShadow needs to be enabled in the CUBE'S material settings.
conartist6 3 years ago 3
TraShadow on the Shaders tab needs to be enabled for the shadow-receiving material, at least for 2.46 on my box. Good point about using Fresnel.
ShawMcGumbry 3 years ago
omg these are so amazing thank you!
massived2 3 years ago
is it possible to get the light to shine through that marble? Me thinks it is difficult
ParapaDrifter 3 years ago
Enable "TraShadow" on the shader of the material in the room box, that'll lighten the shadow of the glass ball. If you want caustics you'll want to use Yafray or export to some other external renderer that supports photon mapping.
