@aaronthegreat695 Agreed, the theme is 2 is overrated, it doesn't give you the feeling that you're in despair fighting for mankind, it sounds like a superhero theme from the 70's >_>
@Tentoken i would disagree on only one point: while the tech used for the music is certainly primitive, the actual composition's decently advanced and complex.
This is for sure my favorite song in this game (Spark Man is a close second). You could set this to any climax of any action movie and it would fit, probably better than the original score. Just has that epic "this is it" push to it.
@knucklesfanyeah first reason is the designer for the game gave him the name Rockman incorporating music-theme, thus Rock's sister is Roll and Blues is Protoman's name in Japan. theres a lot of others in the series that have music reference.
I absolutely love this version of the Wily Theme...from 0:17 - 0:40, it sounds like it has that determination that makes you feel to help Mega Man stop Wily once and for all...many video game magazines and websites give MM2 more love...sure, it did have Metal Man's awesome Metal Weapon to use, but MM3 was the birth of Rush, Proto Man, the 'Mega Slide' move and of course, this Wily Theme..lol....that's why I have MM3 as my favortie one..lol
Ive got to thank you very much for posting this song, almost done transcribing it, very fun stuff. Very powerful piece even if it only has like 5 instruments or less. Very well crafted hehe.
@Gantrioch Before Roll was thought up, they decided on RockMan because RokuMan (stereophonic pronunciation) sounded like the cutest name. And cute suited the original design for Megaman.
damn, I forgot how awesome this theme was blame Mega Man 2 and 4 for that :P anyways...just wow its all serious and stuff almost makes you forget you're about to fight a frail old fart lol
@Shinokyouku thank you but i dont think that was it. the one i am trying to find is at the end of a video that i found by CHamlin86. it is a vid called "That sure was a lot of fun!" the song starts at 2:58. if oyu know what it is that would help alot.
but i did like the music that i found from the suggestion that you gave me though.
Holy crap, man! I didn't know you actually viewed that video and liked the song! I made that remix myself, so messege me sometime and we'll see about getting you the full version. Or perhaps I could upload it to youtube.
Making a CD for when I get stuck in portland traffic. dam lesbian woman drivers in white subaru legacy wagons cause looooong delays. I'll be having this on replay the whole time! <3 megaman sooooooooo much!!
It sounds like either a battle song or the end of the game, which makes sense when it comes to this game.
By the way, the composers might even be the same or somewhat copying someone else. For example, the forest song in Breath of Fire III is similar to Chrono Trigger, and the dorm music in Persona 3 sounds like Bitter Dance from Star Ocean 3. It's crazy...
i agree with this 100%. this song seems so dark and serious and just simply bad ass. and after i heard the wiley metal version oc remix, i have to say its better than the mega man 2 version in its own way.
Sure it takes intelligence. Melody takes quite a bit of intelligence, ESPECIALLY to make one this catchy. Rap takes very little intelligence most of the time. It's just talking to a beat.
@4lbatross OK well that's fine. But if you arn't prepared to listen to other music, then don't make ignorant comments such as "rap takes very little intelligent."
A lot of the Mega Man (E.G, before 8) soundtracks had the most distinct music for the time, the music was powerful--yet sad at the same time. Perfect examples of this would be Mega Man 1- Dr. Wily Stage 1, Mega Man 3- Dr. Wily Stage 2, and of course my personal 'sad and mysterious' favorite, Dust Man- Mega Man 4.
This is why I love Capcom, the tunes of the stages create a sense of sorrow and mystery behind the Robot Masters--almost as if they don't want to fight Mega Man.
I really don't find Wily Stage 1 or 2 that sad, at least not as sorrowful as this one. Same goes for WoodMan. In my opinion, they're all really good songs, but with the three you've selected I really don't get the feeling that MegaMan or the Robot Masters are feeling regret for things they are doing. Rather, I get the feeling that MegaMan cares but rushes ahead to get the job done. With my selected tunes, it feels as if MegaMan will turn back any time, regretting defeating his 'brothers'.
Yeah I agree, Mega Man 3 is the perfect Mega Man game.
When it was originally released, me and all my friends who had been playing 2 for a few years and were basically worshipping the series bought ourselves a copy each and only communicated by phone for the next week to exchange tactics.
Even before that an older friend had showed us a pirated japanese version. Never ever have I experienced a game release anywhere close to what Mega Man 3 was like. It was religious.
This is the best boss theme in the Mega Man series and one of the best ever period.
As much as i love Dr. Wily Stage 1 in Mega Man 2, there is something more emotional and powerful about this song as you the player make your way through the last part of the game. Think about it. The mystery of Protoman. Dr Wily's betrayal and theft of Gamma. Fighting replicas of the MM2 and MM3 bosses. It builds up toward the longest and yet most epic game in the series. This song represents that feeling.
I really do feel what you're saying However I think they made a huge mistake when making MM3 because there was no opening cutscene to set up the story, which was sorely needed, before you start the game That made it a little tougher to understand the cutscenes during the game (esp as a kid) and I definitely couldn't think of the game in terms of a storyline at that point They don't even tell us who or what Gamma is and why he/it is important They just refer to him/it like we should already know
While I will agree that MM3 was not THE best of the series (I still like it, however.), it had probably one of the best soundtracks of the entire series.
Good point but to be fair, Mega Man 3 technically was pushing the NES to its limit graphically and with the size of the game, (thats according to Kenji Inafune who said surprisingly this is his least favorite Mega Man game) so fitting cutscenes in there was almost impossible but i can see your point. That's the only flaw in a otherwise great game.
I agree with you. The song is not only mysterious but also a bit sad which fits perfectly in to the situation with Protoman. What do you think about the theme from the first 2 Wily stages in Megaman 1? I absolutely love that song. I was only 5 when I played the game my first time, and as soon as I got to the stage I just stopped and listened to the music. It's not as powerfull as other Wily themes, but it's also filled with mystery and sadness.
There's something different about the music of Megaman 3, different from any of the first six games on the NES.
I think it's the mood of the music. To me, it's not epic or dramatic, just an attention grabber from the first Wily stage music you heard earlier. The music became more and more serious towards the end of the game.
I used to not like Megaman 3 all that much, but I changed my mind when I played it yesterday. More fun then Megaman 4 for me.
Ah, so lovely to see other people praise this song. Everyone always seems to gush over Mega Man 2's Wily theme, but this one matches the adrenaline with something far more...foreboding.
Really, this theme has that feeling you're in a dark and scary place and you just have to keep moving, or that feeling when you know you're going to die and you're scared to tears, but you have to move on as you can't let your love ones down.
Well said! This theme is more emotional than the MM2 Wily theme. As great as that one was, this one strikes a deeper chord. The MM3 soundtrack is my favorite game BGM.
I agree, This was my favorite Wily music as a kid and still it now, Like GreatFox42 said, this song has "It's coming to end. Keep moving".
This song to me gives me a feeling of hardship. You can't give up now. It also has that dark feeling, that kind of feeling when you're so far from home but there is no turning back. Brings back memories, I have to go dig up my NES now.
i like it:)

I owned Megaman 4, and it was great, but even though Megaman 3 has virtually no storyline at all, it... it just kind of seems better. More classic-y.

Ah, so lovely to see other people praise this song. Everyone always seems to gush over Mega Man 2's Wily theme, but this one matches the adrenaline with something far more...foreboding.

Seriously, Episode 2 is overrated.
Really, this theme has that feeling you're in a dark and scary place and you just have to keep moving, or that feeling when you know you're going to die and you're scared to tears, but you have to move on as you can't let your love ones down.

In some sense, is it really funny?

Well said! This theme is more emotional than the MM2 Wily theme. As great as that one was, this one strikes a deeper chord. The MM3 soundtrack is my favorite game BGM.

I totally agree. MM2 had great music, but 3's music was much more emotional and epic, not unlike the game itself.

Indeed. This song says "It's coming to end. Keep moving!"
