Not a single mention to the music. Hope at least they got the rights for it to embed it in this video (BTW the soundtrack bed required much more effort and money to be produced than this, otherwise great , behind the scenes shoot and its final shots).
I liked the video and watching the techniques used to capture the images - however, I would not really consider this guerilla lighting - too many people and too many lights, etc. To me guerilla lighting is going light weight, portable stobes and not having 6 people assisting, etc.
@thecinemaoferic I don't remember who it was, but I've seen the video of pro shooting on the streets, and equipment used was camera + two small snooted strobes on monopods, carried by two assistants. And that was "guerilla". Setup and shoot in two minutes, than change location.
He has a car. not a coach bus, and a cube van, or tractor trailer. This is light weight ,Guerilla. Not for me, but for an internationally working pro it is. Cheap and fast.. Guerilla. His work is highly commercially used. His crew is like a collage sized crew. For sure Guerilla for a pro.
Maybe... but I've seen also a movie woth pro photographer who has - as far as I remember - two persons team, both holding small snooted strobes on monopods. He could come and do the photos in time, that Michael will need to find a parking place for his van ;)
Wow really. I didn't know you and Grecco hung out so much. I also didn't know that there was a West Coast style of photography and that it was outdated.
Funny since he does a lot of work in NYC and his work has shown up in publications such as Wired and NYTimes.
You must obviously be someone of critical acclaim, have fun spazzing out about a non-objective youtube posting.
The cop car on site was definitely a hint to Grecco having a permit. Anywho, besides that...this is a great vid from a great photog, it's great that he took the time to educate us.
thanks for postin this. i always love to see how other photographers work. there are many videos on studio but location shoots with this type of inside detail and high level is much harder to find.
the photos look totally amazing. great job man. u rock.
Great video! I have never heard of Michael Grecco. Now that I have from this video. I will definitely keep my eye out for his work. I like that he never keeps any secrets to himself about how he works. He lays it out as he plans the shoot in his head. Invaluable information. Thank you.
Michael Grecco is amazing I'm so glad he came to my school to talk to us about his work and his new book. He is defeneatly one of my favorite photographers.
Amazing video ... lots of info ... and the use of reflective panels is great. It will change the way I shoot photos from now on. I've got to look into Sunbounce - looks like great stuff.
Cool! Michael sure has a lot of nice videos floating around the web behind the scenes of his shoots. The coolest one Ive seen is the for his new book called Naked Ambition, An R Rated Look At An X Rated Industry.
3:28 COP CAR IN THE BACK. of course there was a permit. real guerilla.

Guerilla tactics are small bands of fast moving attack and hide soldiers. This is Guerilla. There in there out ,there gone.
ajjs02 2 years ago
Sure, but if you compare photography to doing war, Michael comes with tanks, aircrafts, and with the backup of heavy artillery :]
Really hard to call it "guerilla", to much heavy equipment in use.

Grecco is truly an ass. Plus, the shots are lame. Common, it's just a photo ya wank, and your style is lame W. coast and outdated.
