All religious doctrines are twisted to suit the needs of the leaders. In the case of the Mormons, they conveniently used a "vision", from god to justify the rape of young girls. What utter bullshit. I think a lot of women saw through that, but were too afraid to protest. All religions use that kind of excuse to justify whatever actions they want to take. If it is sanctified by their beliefs, then it is okay to rape and murder. Atheists don't have that handy excuse to fall back on.

hmm I've been challenged by my Mormon family to present evidence that: 1) There is no historical evidence to support Mormonism. 2) That Joesph Smith is a con man. 3) Also to go back a couple times and see how you feel about it. will do the third only because I need to rebuilt some of the social network that I used to have To find a job. and other possible ways to make money

@Synth3t1cs "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live" is a passage in the Christian bible. Children in Africa are being abandoned, exorcised, and killed, because their family members think they are witches. Your bible encourages these misconceptions.

The Book of Mormon was somehow translated by magic stones from the original "Reform Egyptian" into the archaic Jacobean English of the KJV. Now, with the original sources (the magic golden plates) spirited away to heaven or wherever, no updated English version will ever be possible.

Why couldn't the magic stones have translated the "Reform Egyptian", at least, into the American English of the early nineteenth century spoken by Smith?

One would expect the deity to know better.

@faircompetition1 The same way all churches do it, by being churches. It doesn't matter how false your claims and beliefs are, what matters is that you're a religion. The tax exemption for churches needs to go away. Saying that everybody pays taxes, except for churches. Both requires the government to make a determination as to what a church is and is a law respecting an establishment of religion. Both are violations of the first amendment rather than separation of state and church.
