The "much better place" is known as Goloka Vrndavana, also known as Vaikuntha, the Spiritual Sky, where life is eternal , full of knowledge and bliss. According to the "Hindu" or Vedic scriptures, this realm is achieved by associating with pure devotees of the Lord who are absorbed in the process of going to that "much better place", by chanting the Holy Names of the Lord. Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare . There are 400 centers world wide
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder and guru of the Hare Krishna movement recorded one of the first kirtan albums in America, produced in 1966 by Alan Kallman in New York on his "Happening" label. The Beatles purchased 300 copies of this album to share with their friends. This album was one of their first experiences with the "cure" for reincarnation , which would continue to influence many of their song themes about love, peace, and dieing, Paul continues to order food from the Krsna's
In 1969 six Hare Krsna devotees came to London to start a branch & they sent apple pies and wind-up apples with the Hare Krishna mantra written on them to the Beatles at Apple. This meeting led to the recording of 'The Hare Krishna Mantra' by the Radha-Krishna Temple with George, Paul, Linda and drummer Ginger Baker in the studio helping. George produced the song & played harmonium & bass on it. This inspired me to become a Krsna monk. Chanting Hare Krsna mantra frees us from reincarnation
my family has strict instruction that at my funeral everyone has to tell at least one joke. that way people cant help but smile and laugh, it will help them to move on.
This song speaks of reincarnation. According to the law of karma we will receive good or bad reactions. Whether it is a "better place" as Paul sings, depends on what we did in this life. According to the wisdom on karma, like Bhagavad Gita, to the degree that we surrender to the Lord, in this life, to that extent we become freed from karma. If we surrender 100 %, we return to the spiritual world. If not, we continue in this material world from where we left off. Eating meat brings very bad karma
When I die, I would LOVE for people to laugh and joke around. Death shouldn't be viewed as the end, but the journey that the person took to that point. When Paul dies, I'll make it a POINT to go to his funeral and laugh. Not out of hate (He's my favorite solo artist), but just because his life has been amazing and has changed the world by so much.
WHY THE FUCK IS EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT PAUL'S DEATH ?? TRY ENJOYING HIS MUSIC INSTEAD. AND IN THIS VERY SONG HE SAYS, "ON THE DAY THAT I DIE, I'D LIKE JOKES TO BE TOLD". SO INSTEAD OF POSTING HOW YOU'LL CRY WHEN HE DIES, POST ABOUT HOW BEAUTIFUL HE'S MADE THE UNIVERSE.
i hope he never passes. if he does, i don't know what i would do. i probably go crazy, we lost John and George. But i think the reason he sings "a much better place" is becasue he would be surronded with Linda, John, George, his beloved mother he hasn't seen since 13, sure we would all miss him terribly, but thats what i would think of, and same with Ringo. Sure music would die, but we have them still on CDs and youtube. Their music will still be here, and so will their spirits.
@jadestar114 And George..I don't know why I didn't put him. Even though all four Beatles were really close I guess I was just thinking of who was closest to Paul. His best friend and his wife.
This came out at the time my father was dying, and it still makes me cry, but it's enormously comforting. Too bad most people have no clue how good some of Paul's newer stuff is.
This is a nice song. He shouldn't worry, because on the day that he dies I am in no doubt that there will be jokes and music aplenty. But let's hope that it's a long way in the future before that happens.
This isn't depressing at all. If anything he is saying, hey, you're gonna have a good run, there's no need to be sad about eventually passing on. Just because it doesn't sound like it was produced in 1964 doesn't mean it's bad.
@ashleylynnjoan Yes, sounds like it was made in 64, but with his 'genius' and the new technology he could have diversified and renewed a bit more, don t you think? Ah well, at least it sounds more authentic than most computerized stuff these days
Exactcly! I'm really tired of those rumors; I mean "sure there is a difference between Paul in 1962-1966", but was the drugs that changed him. He smoked lots of Marijuana and LSD/acid and they were going to a whole new direction. PAUL IS NOT DEAD; he is here with us:)
I think that anyone who heard this song after the death of a loved one would (like Tim Russert's) understand the meaning of the inevitability of ALL of our moratality.
God bless Tim's family and thank you Paul for this song.
@Ritameter The last 'song' on the album he talks and the song on the album. it funny when he says that instead if everybody sitting around saying ' he was a great guy' , there'd be 'jokes, wake, music, ha ha!...' Funny how he explains it!
I'd only heard scathing reviews of McCartney's recent albums... But without having heard them, I had to reserve judgment. I'm glad I did: this is a beautiful song, that I would never have heard had I believed those reviews implicitly.
I love this song...
AWESOME
