  • As a brown-skinned American, the TSA has always been professional and courteous in my experiences. The passengers and American people, on the other hand can sometimes be racist scum. The TSA messed up, but it seems like a pretty isolated incident.

  • @Andreazor lol, yeah, like I'd much rather live in Somalia, North Korea, or pretty much ANYWHERE in the middle-east. Jealous much?

  • maybe part of the problem lies in the fact that security enforcement is a blue collar job - not necessarily demanding common sense, or logic, but rather a simple GED or highschool diploma.

truly important jobs in America, such as police officers, teachers and and other 'agents of our best interest' - are under payed and under appreciated and generally disrespected by our culture. why do you think such schmucks often fill these positions? its a shame.

  • @chingeyxxxnelly It starts with the educational system. I bet non of those cops/TSA employees has never even had the real chance to learn another language.

  • Giving dumb people uniforms is a bad thing to do. I bet reading is suspicious to these smart fellows at the TSA.

  • Is this what you call freedom, America?

This is what the rest of the world laughs at you and calls you dumb. You're such terrible tools.

I wonder if the security missed any real criminals or terrorists by detaining this guy, simply because of their own incompetence.

  • your country sucks haha

  • TSA stands for??? Twat Sucking Assholes?

  • they don't care about your rights

  • Google the Julia Davis Story: Now Julia Davis' own story is coming to the forefront of public attention, as she recently settled a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security. Her historical case reflects unprecedented acts of reprisal by the Department of Homeland Security, perpetrated in retaliation for Julia's whistleblowing disclosure that embarrassed the corrupt elements within the beleaguered agency.

  • The problem is that they don't have much to do... so if you give them the oportunity they will screw you up

  • @bovestrian Nah, you are.

  • See Citizen Rebel - Nick George the Flash Card Felon for some humor

  • Then ... the government security system wants people who are knowledgeable of Arabic in counter-terrorism efforts.

This is really not a good way to recruit people who are knowledgeable about Arabic for counter-terrorism efforts.

  • This the moronic BULLSHIT surrounding so-called "airport security" and "no-fly lists!"

This is why WE NEED to place emphasize on securing airplane and STOP harassing people!!!

  • Mmm, I'd like to handcuff him too. Omnomnom

In all seriousness, this is appalling.

  • What a great example of why, when police or security question you, the answers are:

    (1) Am I free to go?; If no,

    (2) I will be invoking my 5th amendment rights to an attorney and to silence. I want to speak with an attorney now.

  • TSA = RETARDED GANGSTERS

  • Glad we don't have idiots like 'csgforme' in charge of our air security - wait, based on this outrageous detainment, it's apparent that we do....

  • What idiots! They should fire these officers.

  • Not only should the detaining be considered kidnapping, the police also committed copyright violations by making duplicates of the cards. Did a judge order making a copy? That's the only way they could do it legally!

The entire patriot act is not there to promote US citizen's safety, but to harrass and intimidate all of us who are law abiding citizens. It needs to be declared unconstitutional, BECAUSE it IS UNconstitutional!!!

  • According to dick cheney, this sort of behavior is making America safer...ah-hem....

  • Thanks ACLU.

  • unbelievable. Maybe Mr. Obama should see to it that TSA workers are given a substantial raise, and thus not longer attracting the same people who'd otherwise be working at MacDonalds or Wallmart. The real cuplrit if the US (non)-education system, which has produced a nation of truly stunningly stupid shitheads.

  • I an an Atheist who has studied the Koran somewhat as well as read the bible; only for the purposes of study. I have gone through special security and have had TSA personnel check my baggage only to find the Koran on me. The TSA personnel didn't do anything, nor did I have to explain why I had it.

Obviously one of two things happened here that nobody is telling you. Either the TSA agents acted on their own and were wrong, or the guy the UCLA is representing isn't telling the whole story.

  • There's a big difference between a day at DMV, and what TSA did to Mr George. Were you ever handcuffed by DMV? Thrown into a cell? Interrogated about your political beliefs? If TSA (or DMV for that matter) ever did anything like that to you, the ACLU will fight on your behalf, even though you apparently hate the ACLU.

  • @csgforme

اذا؟ هذا هو الجنون! هل تعتقد أن كل شخص يتحدث العربية هو الإرهابي؟

  • you suck at debate.

  • @csgforme

المناقشة! كيف يمكن معرفة العربية تجعلك الارهابيين!

  • ugh...

  • This is crazy! CRAZYYY! Out of hand! I'm shocked! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

  • really? you're shocked? sister, this is to be accepted. the non islamic world hates us. just look at csgforme's comments. he feels this absurdness is justified. this is not just any safety routine. this is to harass Muslims. the world is united against us. the man was white but since he has arabic flash cards he is a potential Muslim or convert, this means it is okay to harass him.

  • The non-islamic world doesn't hate you nor is it united against you.

This particular case (the one with the flashcards) is extremely stupid.

  • So Does TSA stand for Totally. Stupid. Americans.

This is the type of people that are going to destroy our country. First, they have too much power, second they don't even have the proper skills to do their job, and third they are as dumb as a bag of hammers. A professional terrorist will just observe this useless organization, then develop a plan on how to infiltrate the security anyways. It would not be hard when the TSA employees spend all their time on harassing foreign language students.

  • So now its illegal to speak Arabic on an airplane? Damn Xenophobic Idiots.

  • Isn't it obvious? This guy was clearly jailed for that ridiculous facial hair. He asked the TSA agent if his facial hair was sexy and all hell broke loose.

  • Alright, I'm a Middle Eastern guy who has never been questioned, pulled out, or even stared at be these cocksucking niggro TSA folks. Meanwhile, I've witnessed them harassing countless of 90-year-old's rolling in a wheelchair. TSA is an equivalent of DMV at airports.

  • The way Nick was treated is ridiculous--being curious and asking is ok, but arresting someone because of flash cards is unbelievable. America needs foreign language speakers and interpreters of all races to help our nation realize its goals.

  • @altarguild100 - America needs to stop creating enemies around the world with their hypocritical foreign policy and unjust commercial practices. Especially now they've FU ucked everything up royally, even with every competitive advantage on the planet, including the right to print money.

  • Next thing they'll arrest you for is reading the Koran!

  • Nick,

You took one for the team buddy! Total shame, but funny as hell now! Go get em ACLU! Wooo!

  • Don't forget, there is a critical shortage of Arab speaking citizens that impedes our ability to fight terrorism...so what do we do when we find an american college student who is learning the language? Jail him...three cheers for our side!

  • From the daily news:

"The 200 cards included words for terrorist and explosion, George said."

"A police official was quoted as saying it was George's ID in Arabic - from his Jordanian studies - that had caught their attention, and police were suspicious that the student's hair was shorter than it was in his Pennsylvania driver's license photo."

And a passport indicating Jordan, Egypt, Sudan.

So what is a person to think?

  • I'm a bonafide conservative, staunch Republican, etc....and I can even see that this is absurd... I understand the necessity of ensuring security and safety, but what happened here seems excessive beyond reason...unless of course Mr. George is neglecting to share all of the details, which could certainly be a possibility.

  • @Triopstor "The 200 cards included words for terrorist and explosion, George said."

Why should this play any role? I've learned those words in every language I know - how can flash cards play any role. And c'mon - look at the questions the officers asked: 'What language does Ben Laden speak?' and 'Are you a communist?' - how can this not scream 'retard'? And sure Sudan is a rather strange place to visit but Jordan and Egypt - how much more touristy can it get?

  • the thing is he is not guilty..the book is not a weapon or something that can threat people rite..what TSA doing is just human disgrace..the like to bully people..there is no justice in action..poor TSA..u know what..what goes around comes around.. karma babe..when u bully people then someday u will get bully from others.. u jerk..

  • One more terrorist down. I'm glad to see this war on terror is finally working.

    Good work, TSA!

  • This is disgraceful.

  • He has a beard and almost has a unibrow, I say it was fair game.

  • You're a dickhead

  • The TSA is the least trained, least effective enforcement agency I know of in the Federal Government. They are worse than mall cops.

  • Ridiculous. Police state (run by idiots), here we come.

  • I knew this guy while he was here in Jordan studying! So BIZARRE to find him on youtube now being represented by the ACLU.

Dude...Nick...good luck man. I hope you get out of this one and get some sort of compensation in some form from these assholes at the TSA.

(also, the sideburns are a good look for you man; I don't remember those)

  • Remember the old days, when you had to break a law before they arrested you?

  • Comment removed

  • The TSA is a complete joke.

  • They're fucking rent-a-cops.

  • The first ACLU video I've agreed with in a long time.

    Dear ACLU,

Take more cases like this and less cases that limit freedom.

  • @BigPurple121

    Dear BigPurple121,

What are you talking about? What has the ACLU done to limit freedom?

  • Oh, you mean that kind of freedom. The kind where institutions are free to discriminate based on race, gender, or sexuality.

  • This would be true if unemployment wasn't 10%. If you can't leave your job because it'd mean starving to death in the street, then you are not free to leave.

  • @BigPurple121 How can you be against paycheck fairness? You think women doing the same job as a man SHOULDN'T be paid the same? Does that sound like justice for all to you?

  • BULLSHIT!!.

If a women works as hard as a MAN she should not be punished becaus that she can get pregnant.

That is called discrimination and sexism.

All i hear from you is that you want to punish women for caring a child and if it where up to you it would be okay if your employer cut your wages with 50% right now becaus what ever reason they make up.

After all that is there choice and if you don't like it you can quit your JOB!!.

  • @Waage83

Whose being punished? This is the bottom line. Women have children, fact. Firms can't use woman during pregnancy, fact. That reduces their value as long term employees which translates as wage. I'm sorry, go live on Mars if you don't like reality.

Do you know what the effect of equal pay laws are? People won't hire women. Why would any firm risk legal action and a mountain bureaucratic red-tape when there is an equally qualified man? Leave the market alone if you are for womans rights

  • Bullshit again.

It is punishing a women because she can get pregnant.

I would rather have tons of redtape the live in a country that treats women as a second rate citizens.

  • @Waage83

I was just offering you a justification for why a firm may pay a man more.

Firstly, they're not being treated as second class citizens. A woman has the right to sell her labor and negotiate the wage. She has equal rights.

Secondly, if you make it difficult to employ women (lose management tools ie incentive wages) then you are discouraging firms from hiring women. It will cause less woman to be hired.

  • @BigPurple121

You do realize businesses can be sued for discriminatory hiring practices, too, right? You need to refresh your knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity law: bit PERIOD ly FORWARDSLASH eeoc

As a nation, we've long since progressed beyond vastly many forms of bigotry being acceptable in the marketplace and have laws protecting all kinds of citizens commonly discriminated against by pro-free-market bigots such as yourself.

  • Airport security have the mindset of concentration camp guards.
