i placed an order 10/22. on wed 10/27 they announced halloween sale. asked for price adjustment, they said no, said they could not afford to do that. AFROVEDA's customer service really sucks, and the leadtime to receive product is ridiculous. i am using this opportunity to search out other Black owned natural hair lines who really care about their customers and who understand that price adjustments are a normal business practice, typically within a 2 week period.
I caved and purchased the Hemp Seed and I absolutely love this butter. The hold is amazing and my mini twist are shiny, moisturized, soft and bouncy with amazing hold. I hate the prices went up but it works so well on my hair so I must order the larger 16oz.
I'm so happy I found another staple product
I'm a Customer for life..I can't wait to try the moisturizing butters..
what??!! i dont know how i missed this video! i'm so sad i didnt get a chance to try it before the price hike...i definately will not purchase it now.
WOW! I got that same email on one of my AfroVeda vids. I've stopped purchasing her products because when they changed the formula, it caused my scalp to itch horribly! My curl define is now gone..... :-(
I will never purchase AfroVeda products again, the price hike is ridiculous. There is no excuse for the products to go up 100%. It's ROBBERY and GREED! She built a customer base and then jacked up her prices. Very sad.
@sultry1231 Yes I know this situation is ridiculous.....the outcome of this cannot be good and when it's realized it will be too late to recover.....they seem to forget that we have options.....indeed sad.
i loved her stuff too, too bad another one bites the dust. like you i refuse to pay that kind of money for a hair product. i'm also a product junkie, and like you i'm glad i don't rely on any particular product either, because this is what happens when you do...shame.
Wow, the price change had to go in effect in the last week! I just purchased this product for the first time(at the cheaper price) & I my order should be here any day. It looks like they also eliminated the largest size(32oz). I am glad I purchased before the price change. I will be looking for a new product to twist with. :-(
What did you just say... wow! that is a crazy mark up in price! Splinta, honestly I just stick to shea butter and hair products I can get at Wal-Mart and the health food store. The hype is just not that serious!
mala has sent out a letter regarding the price hike via email. basically the explanation is that the economy has caused the price of shea butter and aloe vera gel has gone up and they needed to up their prices. My favorite line : "We're sorry that this price increase puts our hair butter products out of reach for some of our customers".
@sunshower143 Girrrl! I read that mess today and I was like did she knowingly raise the price knowing that it would be out of her customers' reach? I mean is she trying to alienate some customers and not others.....also I really think she has committed retail suicide because everyone seems to feel the same way about buying her products that we do.
If you go to the Afroveda page and click "Recent Website Changes" it will take you to another page showing which product prices increased and which decreased. If you then click "price Increases" you will be directed to a letter from Maya discussing the price increases. I am still disappointed and will no longer purchase from her site. I think that increase was TOO much!
I checked Afroveda's website, blog and facebook page and found no explanation for the price hike. This is truly bad business. I sent the following questions to them: Why did the prices on your products go up drastically, and do you realize the neatural hair community on youtube is not responding well to this significant increase?
I JUST fell in love with AfroVeda and they do this. I'm just finishing the sample pack I bought. I'm over the shock and anger, I'm ready to move. Either I'm going to find an company OR (the route I will mostly likely take) I'm going to make my own products... and I have no desire to be a mixtress but madness like this will force a sister in the kitchen.
JEEZ!!! Hiking up the prices by that much is simply ludicrous and they sure will never get a penny of my money unless they drop the prices. I agree with most of the comments. As soon as their loyal customer starts buying their products else where, they will get the memo. Until that day happens, Shea moisture will have to do it for now Slinta I know you are mad cause you got me on Afroveda and you’ve been a loyal customer to them. I’ve ordered my last “Afroveda” Good riddance to them!!!!
Girl, before I got to the "taking off the jacket" part, I went to the site and saw those ridiculous prices. Afroveda went from 9 bucks to 12 bucks and now 21.50??? For an 8 oz??? She's going to lose so many followers and supporters of that mess she's doing. We're still in a recession so I'm totally confused. I still love the Shea Amla but that's the end of it for me. I'll use the rest that I have left and bon voyage. I'm learning not to depend on some of these companies as well now.
your hair looks well conditioned...will only shop when they have their holiday sales. i like that shower curtain in the background it looks very rich.
I think its pure greed. QB heavy cream has been my staple and it has not had one price raise in the last year and a half that I have been using it. Im saddened because I really liked the products but I WILL NOT be repurchasing. I loved your ending :)
I'm a college student and graduating next semester and I REFUSE to buy any hair product for this price. Imagine my surprise when I went to reorder afroveda products and saw the enormous price change-I quickly cancelled that order and erased the site from my bookmark page on the computer. I'm so disappointed b/c being natural for a year and a half afroveda is the ONLY hair product/line out of the hundreds that I've unsuccessfully tried that has worked for my hair.
I even turned my friends on to this because of the affordability for the value of their product, and now I'm so upset and will not be buying her products again. I understand price changes between 1-10% because of container and ingredient hikes, but a markup of 90-100% is just plain greed.

Wow and to think by watching this video and seeing how great your hair looked i was gonna break my rule for myself and buy some because i told myself that i wasn't gonna buy anything else online and i have not for months, but now for get it. The search goes on for a product that will give me definition.
you are right this is rediculous for prices to go up this much.I know I won't be buying any more at those prices!!!!Thanks for the heads up!!!By the way I love your top.
Yuo, the 32oz. are discountinued and the Hemp Seed 8oz. is now $23.50. The cocoalatte went from $12.50 to $21.50 for the 8oz, I was up posting this on the boards early yesterday morning. It's outrageous she'll never get my money. Ridiculously expensive! And I don't buy Miss Jessie's either, I never even tried it cause I can't justify that kind of money. Oh well.
@CupcakeChronicles Of course they had to discontinue the 32oz, it would have almost been $100 and that would be even more ludicrous......Ms. Jessie's for me if I need to, is a once a year thing in their buy one get one free......this is Craziness.!
Wow! I am really disappointed. I have been transitioning the last four months. Afroveda was one of the products I planned on trying out once I go fully natural. I was really looking forward to it because it is a natural line and was reasonably priced. I guess unless I find it at a great sale price I won't be buying. Scratching it off my list. I hope other lines don't follow suite.
First of all Miss Jessie's came in at that price and we knew that's what it is....however Afroveda came at a price and now it's double?????? what?????? As much as I love their products, there is no way I'm buying it at those new prices. Hell to the NOOOOOO
Wow! I just placed an order about a week ago and was thinking the price is reasonable after watching reviews. Now I see your vid and return to the site and the prices are HIKED! I guess I placed my order just in time but I will not buy another item at this rate. Ughhh!!! Wish I never ordered!
OMG!!!! I had no idea that she increased her prices that much. That's crazy!!! I'm going to send her an e-mail of complaint as well. How can she double the prices like that. I'll just stick with the other products like Shea Moisture, Oyin Handmade, and etc.
I totally agree with you!! i have been very pleased with afroveda products, the price was reasonable...utill this update. I used it for my hair and my 3 daughters who are just ( under 10 yrs)...i dont like to switch too many hair products on my daugthers and was very happy to discovered the afroveda line,
to cut into the market share of Miss Jessie's and the likes. Honestly, I don't think this is the best way to do it, but hey, so be it. I would not be surprised if their customer base begins to decline once the new prices are set. Oh well....
Thanks for letting us know about the Afroveda mess. I had not tried the product before, now I will never try it at those prices. Ridiculous. Unfortunately, I had a feeling this would soon happen to a lot of natural haircare lines as the natural hair "trend" started to increase over the years. The market and business owners know that we as black women spend more on beauty products than others, so of course our product lines will see outlandish price hikes. I understand it, I do...Afroveda wants
Okay...I am still fuming. You mean she couldn't even give us a warning to allow us to stock up on our favorite products at the lower price. Its manufacturers like this that makes it hard to be natural! I had been using the Curl Define almost exclusively and Now I am back on the product junkie grind to find a comparable product priced accordingly. I DON'T CARE WHAT MALA HAS TO SAY, THIS 100% PRICE GAUGING IS INEXCUSABLE AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK HOMEBOY! *In my Andre Dobson voice*
Now I really feel cheated because I bought my curl define earlier this yr because of your review and I paid $22 for it never got the chance to pay $9 or even $12 now it is done I don't know what i will do next for something like that Happy Nappy was the around the same price as well but they change the formula cause I find that the new one is not as moisturizing so that when I tried the afoveda curl define like them both still but like u said going broke to buy them, as I am out of both products
Splinta.I was having a "shitty" night and this just made it worse. You know I LOVE ME SOME AFROVEDA CURL DEFINE. I just received my "Last" 32 oz bottle of the Curl Define 3 DAYS ago. I was just going to order another one because they take so long to deliver (3 weeks)and now this bull shit! Aw hell naw..as much as I love this product I WONT BE BUYING A 16 OZ JAR FOR $31.50. I PAID THAT MUCH FOR LTHE 32OZ I just got. THIS IS JUST PURE GREED AND ITS TIME US NATURALS MAKE A STAND.BOYCOTT AFROVEDA!
I had no idea that Afroveda went up again. I stopped buying her products when it went up the first time but that new price hike is ridiculous. I was upset initially with KBB for going up with less product, but now her price hike does not seem so bad.
Girl you had me sold on this product till you told us about the price markup. I just checked. That is ridiculous. I know when they first started the prices were like 9 bucks for 8 ounces. Then they went to like 12 bucks for 8 ounces. Now they are up again. Wow. It will eventually be as high as miss jessies.
Yeah, after the price raise, I just can't do Afroveda anymore. I respected them so much for not falling into the astronomical price trend. Now I'm just done with them. It's such a shame. But life will go on :)
Lol on that look for the raised price.... Mi affi chat j'can pan di one. Dere is no way inna hell mi woulda buy a jar dat somthing fi $30+ dollars. Sorry girlie!!! I know how much u loved it. And ur hair has always looked fab but like u said u can't go broke on that especially in this economy. U'll find something else. Hush!!!!
Ok......Girl you know I had to go check for my own eyes! I dont care what she has to say, this is insanity!!!! I will guess maybe she wants to market the line as a high-end specialty line like miss jessies. idk but that is just crazy. I am one customer who will not be returning with prices like that
Love the hair-ee head band:) U make me really want to try this product. I will purchase it from Honey Fig because of the sale. Thank you for the info.
Splinta24, Thanks so much for sharing! I am saddened by Afroveda's large increases too..maybe they can explain??? I hope so. Your hair looked great and I like that cute pink top!!!
I am starting to 2 strand twist my hair getting long enough from my bc 3 months ago and loved your results, but i dont want to get hooked on a product with is raising prices 100%. Thanks for the review.
That was great advice about not depending on one product too much. I have to look for alternatives to my favorite just in case they try and pull an Afroveda!
OMG! I just looked at their website and its UNBELIEVABLE! You are right I will NOT buy anything from them anymore that is ridiculous! The 160z price is more than what they were charging for the 32oz jar (which is not listed as an option anymore).!!!
My sentiments exactly. When I saw the prices yesterday, I had to draw the brakes. My card instantly went back into my purse. I refuse to buy out of principle. On an entirely different note, great pics of you and the hubby.
It's really and truly a slap in the face. While I realize it's their business and they can do whatever they want, we SUPPORT them; we're in this deal too and this is the thanks we get. I'm no longer buying any of there stuff. I wouldn't spend that kind of money even if I did have it. And watch, their bulls$*^ two week shipping period and terrible customer service will still be the same.
I am in love with Curl Define, too! so glad that I bought my jawnt BEFORE the price increase. I plan to only use it for "special" occasions because I WILL NOT be buying it again. I can see a 35% increase, but 100%?...I'm thinking someone working on the pricing sniffed a little too much of the ginger fragrance lol. Love your vids! <3
@suthernbella [SECOND WIND lol]: AfroVeda just increased prices in MARCH! WTH are they doing over there. I'm on the boycott wagon. Most PROFESSIONAL companies increase once a year or every other year but two hikes in one year?...someone is spending too much time around the smells in the lab because they are on something. oh well. :-(
I was just going to order that product...but after hearing that they have gone up one hundred percent they can forget it!!! Your hair is beautiful...as usual. Thanks for the info.Be Blessed sister
I think this is AfroVeda's way to compete with Miss Jessie's. People purchase Miss Jessie's for that price and the ingredients are not natural. While I don't agree with the large price hike, she can compete...especially if we continue to buy.
I just went to their site after the 1st video and was surprised by the price. Wanted to try it but will have to wait until bonus time. Not too crazy on spending more then $20.00 on any products and less I really need it......really bad.
Maybe I'm not seeing whatever everyone else is...I just want over to the site and the 8oz was only 14.50, and the 16oz was 20 dollars and change? Maybe I'm wrong?
See that is the isssh I am talking about, I love my black businesses but when is enough enough. Damn 100% markup is simply ridiculous. I mean I would rather have repeat customers and this would completely turn me away from buying again. great review
@AFRICANEXPORT This some trifling behaviour on their part and you know we have it in our power to make sure they learn a lesson from this. Supporting black business is one thing but I'm not about to be bamboozled......I have not heard one peron so far who says they will continue buying it.
@AFRICANEXPORT This is so true. At the beginning of the year her butters were from 8-9 dollars, then she went to 12-12.50 in the Spring, now to over 20 dollars in the Fall. This is over 100% increase in 9 months. Not to mention the shipping costs in addition to the long turnover, and bad customer service that people have talked about all over the hair forums, but she expects this to go over well? Black or white owned, this is bad business practice. Thanks for the video.
I spoke to Marlene as well she said once this batch sells out she will not be getting anymore. After your review I wanted to try to Hempseed butter for twist and twistouts I think I will be going into honeyfig next week to buy that and the curl define. That owner is on some cheap crack
Wow, I love her products as well, but most of her products are now 21.50 or more, I just purchased that product for I think 12.50 about 2 months ago. I may have to find another alternative as well. I don't pay that much for may products. Be Blessed!!
Your hair looks beautiful I really love the look... I cant believe AV went up that much on their prices, they have lost a customer bc I cant afford that price.
They went up that much!!?? And the original price of the one you are holding was like $9?? Well yea it's time to boycott Afroveda then!! I'm assuming they are aware of their huge youtube following, if they start to see dissatisfaction vids, they may reconsider. Yes, please fall out of love with it and i hope others do so as well as not to encourage this huge inflation. Too bad, i wanted to try them out for the black friday sale i hear about...
WTF! Okay I usually don’t cuss, but I just went to their site. This is price gauging! This was one of the few GREAT working products for natural hair that was inexpensive. And it WORKED! They gave you so much product and that’s what we LOVED about them. Everyone could finally afford great working products and they got bang for their buck. Well I tell you what, after I finish what I have, I won’t be going back to them!
i'm so disappointed with them. if they're business drops (which considering upset youtubers and those on hair forums it might) TRUST we will see a BOBO around thanksgiving like Miss Jessie's or they will drop their prices (though not to the previous price) by thanksgiving. mark my words.
You're right! Just went over to Afroveda's website.. 16 oz Hempseed Butter is $41.50!!! The others are $36.50. Sorry but that's just plain old greed! Shame on them!
I never got a chance to try Afroveda but now since the prices have gone up I may not try it at all. Can't miss what you never tried.,. Your hair is beautiful and thanks for the review..
I knew somebody was in trouble when you took your jacket off :)
The hair looks great as usual. Girl, I tune in to your videos every week like it's a TV show! I just noticed the afroveda price hike as well. It must have just happened within the past week because when I checked about two weeks ago they were still reasonable. I am going on their website to rant today! Thanks for the review.
oooohhh nnnnoooo!!!! i love afroveda for my lil sus! that's the line that has kept her natural! she's 12 and it's been hard to keep her natural as all her friends are getting relaxers. i got her 4 products from the line a few months back and that's what she wants for xmas! getting it here in europe is already almost double what you pay in dollars, but now it's just gonna be impossible to buy!!! aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!! you look FAB though!!!
Whoi, you took off your jacket, I am so happy you did this review, as I also loved the hemp seed butter (side note) your top is amazing. Love the results of your hair. I too use to order directly from Afoveda,, as it was reasonable and worth the price. ten Honeyfg finally got the product, I probally will not be ordering from Afroveda, I understand raising prices, but double the price, feels like a kick for the people who initialy supported Afroved. Thanks for your review.
Splinta24, every time you come on youtube, you've got on some cute little top. Can you put where you got your clothes from in the info box? The clothes, make up, and jewelry featured in the video.
I'm confused??? Afroveda is raising prices again? They just raised them a few months ago... And cute braid twist out. Loving the twist in the front...
I too will have to leave Aforveda!!! I loved this line but can't aford it now. Bee Mine is another excellent line and affordable. Try the Bee Mine bee hold!!!!
Your hair still looks very nice! That's crazy about the price a la Miss Jessie's :S I'm not sure why 100% natural products or products for natural hair are getting so expensive? We just want to style are own hair effortlessly, that's all. :S Oh no, I wonder what is HoneyFig going to do about this now?
I wanted to try this line as well but for the price its definitely a no there are to many other choices like my honey child or qhemet biologics even darcy's botanicals where I can get the same amount of product cheaper. I definitely can feel you on this rant.
THANK YOU! Thank you so much for this video. I am so very pissed at AfroVeda. I was a loyal customer and now the price hike. I could understand a dollar or two but a $9-12 more for the same size and same ingredients. I can't afford this anymore.
Where can I get this product in canada Splinta? I would like to give it a try. If I buy from the website, shipping is over $21. SMH

Oh well.
CupcakeChronicles 1 year ago
@CupcakeChronicles Of course they had to discontinue the 32oz, it would have almost been $100 and that would be even more ludicrous......Ms. Jessie's for me if I need to, is a once a year thing in their buy one get one free......this is Craziness.!
splinta24 1 year ago
I hope other lines don't follow suite.
kneenee71 1 year ago
First of all Miss Jessie's came in at that price and we knew that's what it is....however Afroveda came at a price and now it's double?????? what?????? As much as I love their products, there is no way I'm buying it at those new prices. Hell to the NOOOOOO
blueottlisa 1 year ago
Wow! I just placed an order about a week ago and was thinking the price is reasonable after watching reviews. Now I see your vid and return to the site and the prices are HIKED! I guess I placed my order just in time but I will not buy another item at this rate. Ughhh!!! Wish I never ordered!
lovelydikki 1 year ago

Oh well....
GracefulJoy 1 year ago
Thanks for letting us know about the Afroveda mess. I had not tried the product before, now I will never try it at those prices. Ridiculous. Unfortunately, I had a feeling this would soon happen to a lot of natural haircare lines as the natural hair "trend" started to increase over the years. The market and business owners know that we as black women spend more on beauty products than others, so of course our product lines will see outlandish price hikes. I understand it, I do...Afroveda wants
GracefulJoy 1 year ago
Okay...I am still fuming. You mean she couldn't even give us a warning to allow us to stock up on our favorite products at the lower price. Its manufacturers like this that makes it hard to be natural! I had been using the Curl Define almost exclusively and Now I am back on the product junkie grind to find a comparable product priced accordingly. I DON'T CARE WHAT MALA HAS TO SAY, THIS 100% PRICE GAUGING IS INEXCUSABLE AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK HOMEBOY! *In my Andre Dobson voice*
acmdu89 1 year ago
WHAT?! That is outrageous! Well, I guess I won't be buying Afroveda anymore... sadly.
TrueStorydotLife 1 year ago

THIS IS JUST PURE GREED AND ITS TIME US NATURALS MAKE A STAND.BOYCOTT AFROVEDA!
acmdu89 1 year ago 3
I had no idea that Afroveda went up again. I stopped buying her products when it went up the first time but that new price hike is ridiculous. I was upset initially with KBB for going up with less product, but now her price hike does not seem so bad.
dish9901 1 year ago
Girl you had me sold on this product till you told us about the price markup. I just checked. That is ridiculous. I know when they first started the prices were like 9 bucks for 8 ounces. Then they went to like 12 bucks for 8 ounces. Now they are up again. Wow. It will eventually be as high as miss jessies.
NaturalNola86 1 year ago
Yeah, after the price raise, I just can't do Afroveda anymore. I respected them so much for not falling into the astronomical price trend. Now I'm just done with them. It's such a shame. But life will go on :)
dwanidog 1 year ago 3
Lol on that look for the raised price.... Mi affi chat j'can pan di one. Dere is no way inna hell mi woulda buy a jar dat somthing fi $30+ dollars. Sorry girlie!!! I know how much u loved it. And ur hair has always looked fab but like u said u can't go broke on that especially in this economy. U'll find something else. Hush!!!!
vanie0295 1 year ago
Ok......Girl you know I had to go check for my own eyes! I dont care what she has to say, this is insanity!!!! I will guess maybe she wants to market the line as a high-end specialty line like miss jessies. idk but that is just crazy. I am one customer who will not be returning with prices like that

That was great advice about not depending on one product too much. I have to look for alternatives to my favorite just in case they try and pull an Afroveda!
anjuness 1 year ago

Goddess298 1 year ago
I am in love with Curl Define, too! so glad that I bought my jawnt BEFORE the price increase. I plan to only use it for "special" occasions because I WILL NOT be buying it again. I can see a 35% increase, but 100%?...I'm thinking someone working on the pricing sniffed a little too much of the ginger fragrance lol. Love your vids! <3
suthernbella 1 year ago
@suthernbella [SECOND WIND lol]: AfroVeda just increased prices in MARCH! WTH are they doing over there. I'm on the boycott wagon. Most PROFESSIONAL companies increase once a year or every other year but two hikes in one year?...someone is spending too much time around the smells in the lab because they are on something. oh well. :-(

I think this is AfroVeda's way to compete with Miss Jessie's. People purchase Miss Jessie's for that price and the ingredients are not natural. While I don't agree with the large price hike, she can compete...especially if we continue to buy.

Hair looks great as always.
I just went to their site after the 1st video and was surprised by the price. Wanted to try it but will have to wait until bonus time. Not too crazy on spending more then $20.00 on any products and less I really need it......really bad.
That is a huge jump in price....

See that is the isssh I am talking about, I love my black businesses but when is enough enough. Damn 100% markup is simply ridiculous. I mean I would rather have repeat customers and this would completely turn me away from buying again. great review
~keep it real . loved the face to Afroveda.
AFRICANEXPORT 1 year ago 8
@AFRICANEXPORT This some trifling behaviour on their part and you know we have it in our power to make sure they learn a lesson from this. Supporting black business is one thing but I'm not about to be bamboozled......I have not heard one peron so far who says they will continue buying it.
splinta24 1 year ago 2
@AFRICANEXPORT This is so true. At the beginning of the year her butters were from 8-9 dollars, then she went to 12-12.50 in the Spring, now to over 20 dollars in the Fall. This is over 100% increase in 9 months. Not to mention the shipping costs in addition to the long turnover, and bad customer service that people have talked about all over the hair forums, but she expects this to go over well? Black or white owned, this is bad business practice. Thanks for the video.

Wow, I love her products as well, but most of her products are now 21.50 or more, I just purchased that product for I think 12.50 about 2 months ago. I may have to find another alternative as well. I don't pay that much for may products. Be Blessed!!

Well I tell you what, after I finish what I have, I won’t be going back to them!

i'm so disappointed with them. if they're business drops (which considering upset youtubers and those on hair forums it might) TRUST we will see a BOBO around thanksgiving like Miss Jessie's or they will drop their prices (though not to the previous price) by thanksgiving. mark my words.

oooohhh nnnnoooo!!!! i love afroveda for my lil sus! that's the line that has kept her natural! she's 12 and it's been hard to keep her natural as all her friends are getting relaxers. i got her 4 products from the line a few months back and that's what she wants for xmas! getting it here in europe is already almost double what you pay in dollars, but now it's just gonna be impossible to buy!!! aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!! you look FAB though!!!
