I wouldn't compare a Traverse to a Flex. I would compare the GMC Acadia to the Flex. Besides, the main reason you buy a vehicle like this is for practicality, which would put the Traverse/Acadia at the top since it has more room and more towing capacity. Both the Ford and Traverse have nice interiors if you buy them loaded, which they did for the Ford but not the Chevy for this test for some reason.
which one doesn't look like a box has a more powerful engine and doesn't have a ugly two tone color and does not have a low ground clearnence with out the distracting computer screen that will be outdated in 3 to 4 years
yeah but evertime i drive a ford flex on the road there will be no car like it im the only one 80% of the time and the other 10% is when there is another flex on the road
One thing overlooked in this review - the Flex holds 7, the Chevy 8, If I want my two kids and both sets of grandparents, the Chevy is the only viable option. With the ford, someone has to ride in the trunk (actually, no room - on the roof is more likely!)
Both suv's are good, but in my opinion the chev is the way to go. The Flex's sales a trailing the traverses for an obvious reason. Although its nice, the style is just too exotic and the traverse offers much more utility, and ALOT more room.

Lt2 verse LTZ is only slightly a poor comparison. The LT2 is 1 notch below the LTZ, there are much lower end versions of either vehicle, but the LTZ is probably a better comparison to a limited.
i think ford tried to copy chevy with the retro look hhr. so they made this thing?!...lol i think the traverse is much more suv like so ppl who are used to suv's will like it more than the flex. and about the ecoboost flex, its just garbage cuz it costs $50,000 so i would just instead buy a well equipped suburban and save myself from the tight interior for the same price!
first of all, they compared the "limited" trim ford to the LT and not the LTZ, and they shouldnt of compared the flex they should of compared the EDGE TO THE TRAVERSE!!!!
@micamaro2 yeah i have the ltz and looks so much better inside and out. Why didnt they put it against the Buick Enclave or GMC Acadia which are the same things just a little more detail
That's not a fair comparison. InsideLine is comparing a fully equipped Limited trim Ford Flex model with a base model Chevy Traverse. Where's the LTZ trim on the Chevy Traverse? Either way the chevy's styling is spot on compared to Ford's.
@hottdylan1993 the traverse is the sleeker looking car, ill give you that. Was close to getting it also, but was real disappointed when i saw the rear seats. They are very low and short which makes you sit with your knees up, not to comfortable on longer trips. On the other hand the seats in the Flex are 10x better, they almost feel like a couch, and your knees aren't sticking up. Had a chevy astro which had one of the best back seats. Because of confort think i will go with the ford.
@hottdylan1993 if the seats in the traverse were like in the astro then it would be a no brainer, would take the traverse hands down, but the reality is that the seats plainly suck. I love the Buick version also, but it to has the same problem with the seats. Not crazy about ford design but i think i gonna go with it because hate being cramped sitting with my knees up. really wish chevy would have made them higher and longer because not sure if you saw but they barely reach te end of your ass.(
cant get over the flex's ugly look. i look at it, and i think of a herse *shivers* The Traverse least has some appeal to it, plus they drive very smooth and practically no road noise at all. reminds me of the new malibu....awesome car.
The Flex is better for it's intended purpose. These vehicles won't bought for there cargo capacity. SUV/pickups are more suited for that. The flex has a better ride, better braking and better fit and finish.....And what video were you watching? The performance advantage of the traverse isn't anything worth bragging about. Chevy is behind Ford in quality. That is fact, look it up.
I'll take the Flex. Better ride quality, new styling and better build quality. The traverse is "faster". But who in the hell buys a vehicle like this for drag racing? lol!...GM doesn't get it.
I love how when it comes to comparing GM to FORD they have to put the top of the line ford against Chevys Mid-Range vehicle. Also the Traverse has more power, faster, more cargo room and looks MUCH better. They even stated it.. So they are choosing the FORD based on their opinion of looks. Yet the traverse beats ford in every way (including quality and power). Im sure this jerk works for ford LOL
first off the ford is fucking hidous! second chevy has sold way more traverses than fords sold felxs and they didn't even use the LTZ package. not to mention that the buick version of the traverse blows the flex out of the water.
If your really looking for a nice interior for the money, the Outlook XR is miles ahead of both!!! The Outlook is cheaper and gives you more. It's also better looking than both, but thats my 2 cents.
Im sorry but these bitches FAIL!! Traverese looks way better. The Flex is just a decked out rectangular box. Plus did you notice that the Flex is a nicer trim of limited, while the Traverse is just a simple LT. Atleast get a high end LTZ for a fair comparison. Though I still do like the dash and entertainment system of Ford which I give them props for.
i have a Ford Flex. My favorite is the handling, acceleration and braking. It's quiet too. It feels to heavy and stable. Plus it turns a lot of heads. Very nice.
Ford is obviously the best american car company, Proven by their finacial gain this year while GM is losing Billions. GM took billions from government Ford didn't becuase Ford is the best and people want to buy their cars.
That doesn't matter beacuse they're still losing BILLIONS and are projected to lose 2-6% of thier USA market share this year (GM actually only had 19.5% of the market according to CNN money in 2009) so they're going to be behind Ford and Toyota by the end of 2010. Ford's future is much brigher they're making better products and might go to number 1 spot this year, if Toyota doesn't beat them.
well whatever happens..happens..GM has made some changes and they are making award winning vehicles now..i believe GM is stepping it up finally..I'm sure there are a lot of different numbers out there for market share, but GM has 22% of market regardless..
@Motorfordtoyota he traverse is the sleeker looking car, ill give you that. I have test driven the ford and like it a lot! But I am considering the chevy because the ford only seats six, the chevy seven or eight. And the chevy fits adults in the 3rd row. Have owned a ford for years and will trade it in for a chevy it looks like...I will soon be an expert on the ford vs. chevy debate :)
There's really no comparison, once inside that is. The vista roof in the Ford Flex is a work of art. The Seats look like that of a more expenisve vehicle. The dash board is rich stylish and beatiful. Add on the the refigerated compartment in the middle and the Ford Flex is King. Once inside there is no denying the Ford is a better value. It redefined what I expected out of a cross over SUV.
Wrong about what? The Traverse is an suv replacement vehicle. It is brawnier than the flex. This isn't about brand loyalty which your ''wrong!'' statement smacks of. I'm not putting down the flex the traverse is more a work vehicle. Just look at them side by side.
I really like the retro styling of the Ford Flex. Next year, Ford will be introducing an EcoBoost version of the V6 with twin turbos in the 2010 Flex with almost 100 more HP, and better MPG!
I like the Flex but when it comes to sporty looks the Edge is the way to go. Next year I will have my Ford training complete and look forward to working with both. Can't wait!!!
did they really just compare a top of the line Ford Flex vs. a mid level Chevy Traverse? no wonder the Flex won. put the Limited Ford Flex against the Chevy Traverse LTZ and look at the "attention to detail". Traverse LTZ is a much better looking vehicle, hands down!
ttriplet: they are referring to "fit and finish" when they talk about the details, not the trim level. the LTZ just adds stuff like heated/powered seats and a few other options -- it doesn't change the quality of the build, or the quality of the materials and the styling of the interior elements.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this video is stupid because the flex almost looks like the hummer because is like a rectangle and plus the traverse looks more stylish from the outside than the flex so i think the traverse is better than the flex. go traverse :-)
I like the Chevy...but the ford flex its really good and the safety features are just amazing...take a look at the crash test...they are impressive...great video..thanks
Flex is a joke. don't even call it horse power for the flex, call it flower power. This is America, and that means power, if you are worried about all the little details, go with your buddies across the sea. Chevy is American, General Motors is American. Plus, you most likely would drive one of these cars because you have a family, and if you have a family you probably have a camper or boat for weekends, which the Traverse would haul much much better. Once again, General Motors comes out on top.
The Traverse is a purpose vehicle. It is meant to haul and tow that's why it's more suv like. This is no daisy this is a serious car and in the coming years it will be sporting 300+hp.
ummm...I'm the Joke? News Flash for you Steve...Anti Lock Brakes isn't Traction Control. In 2001 Traction Control was only offered as an option or when combined with the upgraded versions of the Taurus.. Now, put down your bong and go to Ford's web site, and look at the 2009 Focus or the Fusion and find traction control as a standard feature of the base model(which is what my earlier post was about) and don't look for ABS....Look for Traction Control...Soooo BITE ME!
Steve, are you retarded? The base Focus doesn't even have ABS as an standard feature. The BASE model is what I was talking about, but it applies to EVERY Focus..you will pay $745 for ABS and Stability control..With the Fusion you can get Traction control for $495 as an OPTION on the base model , otherwise you have to get the top of the line V-6 SEL in order to get it standard...just like I told your stupid ass...
chevy's back looks ugly... something is missing.. I don't know what could make it better but something is missing.. I thought travelse is cheaper than its brother GMC's arcadia.. Arcadia looks more expensive,,
bluesky please go away like really and saying fords dont come standard with traction control are you joking? who are you trying to fool my 2001 taurus came standard with traction control. your a JOKE.
Notice how Ford has completely halted all TV spots for this car? Their only sales are off the people that would have bought an Edge anyway, so this vehicle is not helping Ford to increase market share...At the inflated price, I guess it will help their bottomline, if they can convert Edge buyers to move up to this ride...
i don know how in the hell ford won it cant even pull a little tralier it's already to low if i hit a pot hole i would probally wreck this picece of shit now the chevy this is somthing worth buying it can actually haul a little boat tralier or somthing like that i'm not say it should be pulling a gooseneck or anything that should be left to dodge but in my opinon the traverse wins!!!!
The Traverse tows 5000lbs versus the Flex's 4500. The difference isn't that great.
The difference here is space: the Traverse has a roomier interior that is easy to maneuver through, which makes a big deal when you are getting kids in and out of car seats. I think either of these will please their buyer, and it comes down to taste. I'd take the Ford's styling over the Traverse's utility.
ANother point that Ford was happy to point out about their lineup of cars. They meet the highest level of safetly, from some insurance institute...sounds good at first, except the fine print...To get that rating, you have to have traction control on your car...None of Ford's cars come with traction control standard. The Asians? ...well, you can probably guess...example number 345 of why US cars are DOA, and even the recently hurting Toyota will prevail.
OMG, I know I'm ahted around here, but go to ebay RIGHT NOW and look at how cheap the BUYITNOW prices are on used Ford Flexs?!!!Can you beleive a car that's only been on the market 5 months is selling (not selling) for the low prices they are asking? How can anyone with an internet connection convince themselves to buy this retard car?
the others must have been sold or withdrawn...don't put a year...just type "FORD FLEX"
as for your monnets about publicly held companies, you are the one that doesn't know much. Privately held companies go bankrupt all the time. it has nothing to do with the number of people that are part owners of shares in a company...I guarantee you that if Ford files for bankruptcy, no white knight will buy them outof it. ALL of their assets will be sold at liquidation. As-is, Where-is, unless GOV'T helps.
wanna hear something really scary? IF Ford goes out of business, ala Chapter 7, then all of the cars will be sold where-is as-is, with no warranty. Sveral Italian made vehicles had that happen to them in the 80s, and their cars sold or about 15 to 20 cents on the dollar...I'll pay 9 grand for a brand new Flex...but not a penny more...Their a piece of shit, made by temporary labor in Canada...
Remember the old 21 window vw busses? The huge sunroof and the port windows? yep this is sooooo muchmore fun - safer -- faster -- equipped --- everything! Ours is the limited version with FWD -- all wheel drive is excessive unless you live in the great white north. The Flex is so versatile that it blows away all the rest! Check one out
glad for you you didn't waste more money on the so-called AWD Haldex piece of shit. I'm sorry you had to be the one to buy this first year vehicle. Net years will have a 4cyl ecoboost, and after that hits, no one will want the one you just bought..Aint that always the case with U.S OEM crap tho...
you got to be one of the most ignorant people on youtube. Their one of the best midsize SUV for the value and yes their selling. If Ford were to go out of business they would not sell the car for pennies. Most likely it would be sold to a different automaker. The only reason why the Italian companies went out of businesses is because they were not publicly shared companies therefore they didn't have any bankruptcy protection. You obviously don't know much about cars or simple business economics.
The CHeepest Flex on bay I found 26,500. People aren't going for tat because, you can go to a ford dealership and get a base model Flex SE for 28,000. So why buy one for 26,500, just add a couple thousand and get a new one. Not a used one.
Anyone thinking GM is in any form of shared platform partnership with Toyota is mistaken. GM only wishes that were the case. GM's workers are Union, and the UAW would go ape sh*t if Non-Union Toyota workers were building cars for GM. That is why the US OEMS are dying. They can't afford to continue to fulfill their foolish obligations they gave to the Unions. I don't blame the unions for doing their best. I blame the OEMs for their stupidity.
If you take away the 5000 units needed to put just one of these cars on a ford lot, it yields true sales of only 4000 units nationwide! Each dealer only sold 1/2 of a Flex in the entire month!) GULP!
What happened to the target of annualized sales of 100K units (8.3K/mon. or close to 2 units sold per dealer/mon.) No wonder Ford shit-canned the Chief Design Engineer Gresens two months ago...Can you say Edsel? hahaha
It's a shame that they are both just awful companies, if ford didn't have the mustang, and chevy have the corvette, theres a good chance they would both go under.
If you didn't have such an ugly, gay and sadly deranged outlook on things, then you would realize that you would be alot more successful in recognizeing Ford os the best.
I wouldn't compare a Traverse to a Flex. I would compare the GMC Acadia to the Flex. Besides, the main reason you buy a vehicle like this is for practicality, which would put the Traverse/Acadia at the top since it has more room and more towing capacity. Ford is obviously the best american car company, Proven by their finacial gain this year while GM is losing Billions. GM took billions from government Ford didn't becuase Ford is the best and people want to buy their cars.
quatlen 2 years ago 2
Gm has lost money from 2008 to 2009 but GM is the leading manufacture in the U.S with 22 percent market share..higher than ford
egak20 2 years ago
That doesn't matter beacuse they're still losing BILLIONS and are projected to lose 2-6% of thier USA market share this year (GM actually only had 19.5% of the market according to CNN money in 2009) so they're going to be behind Ford and Toyota by the end of 2010. Ford's future is much brigher they're making better products and might go to number 1 spot this year, if Toyota doesn't beat them.
quatlen 2 years ago
well whatever happens..happens..GM has made some changes and they are making award winning vehicles now..i believe GM is stepping it up finally..I'm sure there are a lot of different numbers out there for market share, but GM has 22% of market regardless..

@Motorfordtoyota he traverse is the sleeker looking car, ill give you that. Because of confort think i will go with the ford.
mkaczmarski 1 year ago
@Motorfordtoyota if the seats in the traverse were like in the astro then it would be a no brainer, would take the traverse hands down, but the reality is that the seats plainly suck. I love the Buick version also, but it to has the same problem with the seats. Not crazy about ford design but i think i gonna go with it because hate being cramped sitting with my knees up. really wish chevy would have made them higher and longer because not sure if you saw but they barely reach te end of your ass

3boody2000 2 years ago 3
There's really no comparison, once inside that is. The vista roof in the Ford Flex is a work of art. The Seats look like that of a more expenisve vehicle. The dash board is rich stylish and beatiful. Add on the the refigerated compartment in the middle and the Ford Flex is King. Once inside there is no denying the Ford is a better value. It redefined what I expected out of a cross over SUV.

But for some reason they went for the base Chevy and the top of the line Ford? Do you know why?

The chevy has a v6 in all levels, just the top model has more horsepower from having twin exhausts instead of a single like the model they tested.

Wrong about what? The Traverse is an suv replacement vehicle. It is brawnier than the flex. This isn't about brand loyalty which your ''wrong!'' statement smacks of. I'm not putting down the flex the traverse is more a work vehicle. Just look at them side by side.
tamapalagi 2 years ago
i like the traverse, is more stylish and looks better than flex, flex is just a rectangle with wheels

I really like the retro styling of the Ford Flex. Next year, Ford will be introducing an EcoBoost version of the V6 with twin turbos in the 2010 Flex with almost 100 more HP, and better MPG!
camarosbob 2 years ago
I like the Flex but when it comes to sporty looks the Edge is the way to go. Next year I will have my Ford training complete and look forward to working with both. Can't wait!!!
Iyopappy 2 years ago
I work at a Ford Dealership... they should be comparing the Traverse with the Ford Edge....
DDOJKET 2 years ago
did they really just compare a top of the line Ford Flex vs. a mid level Chevy Traverse? no wonder the Flex won. put the Limited Ford Flex against the Chevy Traverse LTZ and look at the "attention to detail". Traverse LTZ is a much better looking vehicle, hands down!
ttriplet 2 years ago 3
ttriplet: they are referring to "fit and finish" when they talk about the details, not the trim level. the LTZ just adds stuff like heated/powered seats and a few other options -- it doesn't change the quality of the build, or the quality of the materials and the styling of the interior elements.

GeneralMotors2009 2 years ago
i love ford and gm, but ford is just as good as gm.
steve9509 2 years ago
The Traverse is a purpose vehicle. It is meant to haul and tow that's why it's more suv like. This is no daisy this is a serious car and in the coming years it will be sporting 300+hp.
tamapalagi 2 years ago
Same with the flex, the 2010 model will have a 365 hp engine, its dual turboed i think and sitll gets great mpg.

ummm...I'm the Joke? News Flash for you Steve...Anti Lock Brakes isn't Traction Control. In 2001 Traction Control was only offered as an option or when combined with the upgraded versions of the Taurus.. Now, put down your bong and go to Ford's web site, and look at the 2009 Focus or the Fusion and find traction control as a standard feature of the base model(which is what my earlier post was about) and don't look for ABS....Look for Traction Control...Soooo BITE ME!
blueskysiii 2 years ago
....? your telling me my taurus doesent have traction control...yes it does it came standered with it and i will bite you if you insist?
steve9509 2 years ago
and im on the ford website and they both have traction control in power and handling..
steve9509 2 years ago 2
Steve, are you retarded? The base Focus doesn't even have ABS as an standard feature. The BASE model is what I was talking about, but it applies to EVERY Focus..you will pay $745 for ABS and Stability control..With the Fusion you can get Traction control for $495 as an OPTION on the base model , otherwise you have to get the top of the line V-6 SEL in order to get it standard...just like I told your stupid ass...

1fordhater 3 years ago
did u actually test that? TAAKE IT SIR
pwnedrz0 3 years ago
Traverses are meant to pull like a suv. 5000 lbs for sure and that's plenty for the average person.
tamapalagi 2 years ago
The Traverse tows 5000lbs versus the Flex's 4500. The difference isn't that great.
The difference here is space: the Traverse has a roomier interior that is easy to maneuver through, which makes a big deal when you are getting kids in and out of car seats. I think either of these will please their buyer, and it comes down to taste. I'd take the Ford's styling over the Traverse's utility.
lateloop 2 years ago
Towing isn't the difference. I would say the chevy drives and brakes better under load.
tamapalagi 2 years ago
ANother point that Ford was happy to point out about their lineup of cars. They meet the highest level of safetly, from some insurance institute...sounds good at first, except the fine print...To get that rating, you have to have traction control on your car...None of Ford's cars come with traction control standard. The Asians? ...well, you can probably guess...example number 345 of why US cars are DOA, and even the recently hurting Toyota will prevail.

How can anyone with an internet connection convince themselves to buy this retard car?

Ok I see only 2 cars on ebay and the "buyitnow" prices are the same as the msrp so what is your point
cohensown19 3 years ago
the others must have been sold or withdrawn...don't put a year...just type "FORD FLEX"
as for your monnets about publicly held companies, you are the one that doesn't know much.

GM and Chrysler is in more shit than Ford! Ford doesn't need money right now. GM and Chrysler do.
scorpiojudo 3 years ago 2
wanna hear something really scary? IF Ford goes out of business, ala Chapter 7, then all of the cars will be sold where-is as-is, with no warranty. Sveral Italian made vehicles had that happen to them in the 80s, and their cars sold or about 15 to 20 cents on the dollar...I'll pay 9 grand for a brand new Flex...but not a penny more...Their a piece of shit, made by temporary labor in Canada...
blueskysiii 3 years ago
Flex rules!!!

Net years will have a 4cyl ecoboost, and after that hits, no one will want the one you just bought..Aint that always the case with U.S OEM crap tho...
blueskysiii 3 years ago
you got to be one of the most ignorant people on youtube.

Latest Flex sales data is very sad:
Flex
Oct sales: 2,017
Total sales: 9,569
If you take away the 5000 units needed to put just one of these cars on a ford lot, it yields true sales of only 4000 units nationwide! Each dealer only sold 1/2 of a Flex in the entire month!) GULP!
What happened to the target of annualized sales of 100K units (8.3K/mon. or close to 2 units sold per dealer/mon.) No wonder Ford shit-canned the Chief Design Engineer Gresens two months ago...Can you say Edsel? hahaha
