@Whatistobe It is more a statement to end-of-the-worlders. I have seen the film Germs, Guns, and Steel . This was a while ago, so I am not sure if it is inspired by that film. I did appreciate the sociological / anthropological perceptions in that film.
@vdst1 Sorry, I meant Jared Diamond's _Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed_, not his earlier _Guns, Germs..._. I never read either, but the ideas from _Collapse_ about exhausting resources and undermining environmental habitability is an important one that seems to be the last consideration- for us now and those societies that perished. We face all sorts of challenges at this stage in our history, but the threats from overpopulation are usually ignored as unmentionables
@Whatistobe I haven't heard of that work of Jared Diamond's. There is definitely a disconnect when it comes to overpopulation. My point was that if we as humans don't sort it out ourselves peaceably, that there would be an non-human fail safe working on the species from the environment.
I think ultimately I am an optimist, we have come this far, we should be able to get ourselves through these amazing times intact.
Is this inspired by the "Guns, Germs, and Steel" arguments?
