I am one of the most cold, cynical people you'll ever meet who didnt even cry watching ET or Titanic...but for whatever reason, this song made me almost cry when I first heard it. The lyrics and presentation really make you live vicariously through this guy's pain. His daughter, who was such a source of pride for him, becomes a daily living reminder of what he lost at such a young age. Could you imagine having to work through grief like that on a continual basis? Does it ever go away? Wow.
This is one of about a dozen "death ballads" that all became big hits during the '60s to mid-'70s, half of which hit #1! Here are some more, see how many you can remember! Last Kiss Shannon Seasons in the Sun Honey (Bobby Goldsboro) Billy, Don't Be a Hero Teen Angel Moody River Run, Joey Run Wildfire Patches (Dickey Lee)
WOW ! a Blast from the Past ! My sister married a Rocky back when this song came out.....and baby came too...go figure..lol This song is awesome and I've heard it a million times...can NEVER get enough of Austin Roberts..P.S. and no, my sister didn't die though, thank God..
Sorry, it's because Austin Roberts sang the 2nd season of Scooby Doo Where Are You! theme song. Please spam this, thumb down, remove, respond, anything appropriate.
OMGZ STAR TREK?! MY SISTER LOVES THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember a song I loved but couldn't for the life of me remember how it went, the words or anything else, just that it was a story type song about a girlfried dying. That sounded a little odd to mention to anybody so I just stored it way back in my head for about 35 years.
Then they played Rocky on Sirius ch. 7 about a year ago and I found it! I was so relieved.
Still a cute little song that's now on my i-pod, but I try mot to listen to it too much as I don't want to get tired of it.
like so many songs of the 70's, it shamelessly tried to tugg you heartstrings, but at least this one had decent music and a decent message so it woked for me, lol.
Love the song and the clipsd. It is NOT an insult to the stars, On the contrary. It is a great compliment that is ecohed by many. Kate and Jeri have never had any negetive comments about the lesbian fan base that I have ever heard or read of.
I enjoyed most of Austin Roberts' music and this is probably my favorite. I'm not sure I could believe what I think is the intended theme. I've watched the show only a few times but I never noticed that kind of relationship. The song is great but I think the video is an insult to the 2 stars.
What happened to this kind of music? The beautiful Sunday's , Playgrounds in my mind, this song I could go on...keep the majority of the modern piss currently called music, i'll take my 60's and 70's light melodies any day.
Alone until my eighteenth year We met four springs ago She was shy and had a fear Of things she did not know But we got it on together In such a super way We held each other close at night And traded dreams each day And she said, "Rocky, I've never been in love before Don't know if I can do it
But if you let me lean on you Take my hand, I might get through it" (through it) I said, "Baby, oh sweet baby It's love that sets us free And God knows if the world should end Your love is safe with me" We found an old gray house And you would not believe the way We worked at night to fix it up Took classes in the day Paintin' walls and sippin' wine Sleepin' on the floor With so much love for just two Soon we found there'd be one more And she said,
"Rocky, I've never had a baby before Don't know if I can do it But if you let me lean on you Take my hand, I might get through it" (through it) I said, "Baby, oh sweet baby It's love that sets us free And God knows if the world should end Your love is safe with me" We had lots of problems then but We had lots of fun Like the crazy party When our baby girl turned one I was proud and satisfied Life had so much to give 'Till the day they told me That she didn't have long to live
She said, "Rocky, I've never had to die before Don't know if I can do it..." Now it's back to two again The little girl and I Who looks so much like her sweet mother Sometimes it makes me cry I sleep alone at nights again I walk alone each day And sometimes when I'm about to give in I hear her sweet voice say, to me
Well, I'm a guy and I wasn't on that bus. But I loved this song (though I didn't tell the other guys!) It still makes me *sniff*...the last verse just slays me.
cjb--that's my biggest memory of this song too! The girls loved this song, the guys on the bus hated it. Probably because the girls sang it so much, lol!
I've been searching for this song for a long time as I love to stroll down memory lane. Nice to find it here, although I've never been a Trek fan. Would love to know where the Dickey Lee version of this song might be. Thanks for posting this.
The clip you're refering to is from the episode "Raven". It's been a while since I seen it, but I believe she's standing there wondering why Seven left Voyager to seek out a Borg signal in that episode. In this video I used the clip to represent her missing Seven, and trying to feel closer to her after her "death" by standing in her alcove.
Know the song well but only seen the TV programme briefly. This however is very clever and whatever other talents you have are wasted if they aren't as artistic and downright clever as this. Kudos from a Brit...
This is one of the best if not the very best J/7 vids ever made. Brings tears to me eyes every time I watch it. Absolutely great. Love the song. Great job, would love to see more vids come from you.
Beautiful video. You did a great job. It's very sweet and sad. Great song, never heard it before untill now, but i really like it. I truly wish they had made show more like this.
I love what you did with song and video...very creative :)
