  • i choked up blood at the "but do look good" part

  • Did you smoke weed before making this you sound high lol xD

  • i dont know if that's entirely true. my parents are from iran and i was born in the states. i could say im american, but i think when people ask me "what are you?", they're looking more for my ethnicity, which is persian. this doesnt happen so much with people of european orgins.

  • Well we are both right, let me explain further. You are an American, from Iranian decent. So really in that question you could answer whatever you preferred. It may also come down to how many generations a family has been in a particular country.

Using Canada you can see on a census that 30% of people call themselves Canadian (aka mutts like myself) and it then subdivides to chinese, black, ukranian, etc. It also probably has to do a lot with if your family continues using traditions.

  • You see gayish entertainers on Japanese TV because they are stereo type enough not to threaten the society, which mean they are novelties to most of people. That's why it looks like they are accepted and this does not mean that Japanese society accept homosexuality in general at all. Gaijin, White & Black foreigners, are novelties to most of Japanese, in a way, same as transvestites on Japanese TV. But other foreigners can be subject of much more serious racism unfortunately.

  • I never said that Japanese society accepts homosexuality, far from it. You are correct that it is often a novelty on television.

I don't feel that racism is very prevalent in Japan either. But that discussion has been beat into the ground enough already in other videos.

  • One reason you do not feel that racism is very prevaent in Japan is because you are a Gaijin as I stated before. You might feel in a different way if you are an Asian foreigner who came to Japan for a financial oppotunity. Though even that case is not very prevalent now, eventully it will be when Japan gets much more immigrant from other Asian countries for labor shortage. I think It will be like Europe getting lots of non White immigrants. And I really hope it's not going to be too ugly.

  • Gaijin means foreigner, including other Asians. In terms of other Asian foreigners I would agree that there is more racism due to age old history in the region. What you mentioned is already happening in the UK. Borders are shrinking, people need to get used to living with everyone else.

  • your voice is really strange , its so trembling...but great vid

  • Haha, yeah? That's a new one. Thanks for watching!

  • please dont think i dont like it.

  • I have thick skin either way! Maybe it's my Canadian accent that people on youtube seem to think exists.

  • thanks for the shoutout to anthropologists :-) I find your comments very interesting, and I reckon your relativist point of view contains a lot of merit, especially the cross cultural classifications of gender (without advocation of righteousness in beliefs in gender), plus your interpretation of the situation on immigration and population changes. You are very down-to-earth as well...in other words...much respect to you dude, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding cosmology reflection:)

  • If I ever get over there, I would love to sit down and have a chat to you about all of this, it's really interesting, and I'd like more insight :-).

  • Wow, thanks! The world is an interesting place, and I just give my humble opinion on how I see it. I've had some discussions with my sister on gender, who has an anthropology degree. It's not something I'm able to go too in depth with as it's a deep subject which I have not studied.

Thanks for watching and let me know if you ever come for a visit!

  • ahahahaa 2:14 !

I almost fell out of my chair bro!

Nicely said bro! People are clouded in there minds.

  • haha

  • I enjoy your ramblings! By the way, tokyobrando sounds like a douchebag...

  • I understand your point. But I have to disagree with you on one issue. Americans do see being American as a race issue. An asian in America is always concidered an outsider no matter how many generations the family has been here. But a caucasion blends in and so their origin doesn't become an issue. Thus, during WWII Japanese americans were in internment camps but German americans were not. It is not fair but it is true.

  • You make some good points. If an Asian family lives in America for multiple generations I suspect they would refer to themselves as Americans though. Thanks for the insight.

  • Great information!

I'm not so informed about the economy since I'm not living there, but hopefully when I make it there I'll be doing my part to help!

And I agree with nationality whole heartidly!

This is a weird subject to talk about huh? I had so many brain farts making my response xD.

  • You raise some good points here Ryan and I agree that Japan's best move for the economy is indeed to open up immigration to foreign workers.

Let me break it down for you like Squirrel Soup: It's no secret, but the reason Japan hesitates to open up immigration is because the Japanese are too Japanese, and foreigners too foreign. Does that make any sense?

  • I don't know if foreign workers is entirely the solution. For example I'm a foreign worker, but I can't find a job. My biggest problem is my lack of Japanese. Now in a country like Canada or USA they accept immigrants, but most speak English to some extent. The problem with Japanese, is only one country in the world speaks the language.

I don't have a solution, but it's going to be a huge problem in the years to come.

  • But yeah, you pretty much sum it up.

  • Thanks! Were you drinking? You seemed fine to me. Good vid. Thanks for the response.

  • I drank after, not during!

  • Hello, Ryan! Nice video! I love a good discussion!

In my opinion what makes a Japanese, or any other nationality, is just the knowledge of the culture and language. Biologically I am "Japanese" because my parents are Japanese, but I don't consider myself Japanese, and Japanese people don't treat me as Japanese! That is not entirely bad, sometimes I even prefer to be treated as foreigner!

  • I agree. I think it should be where you are raised that determines what you call yourself. I think third generations in Japan have a right to call themselves Japanese, and should be considered citizens and have the right to vote, but they don't.

On another side 5th generation Canadians call themselves Ukrainian or Polish all the time and don't speak either language or have never been to the country. Canadians have huge identity problems, I don't see why it's so hard to be a mutt.

  • good vid.

    Cheers
