Ive been in a relationship with 3 girls who shared the same name. It was akward, specially in my last relationship, cuz we used to hang out with the same group of friends and when somedy said "Hey Alex" we were like...uhm ok....me or the other Alex? <_<
You make incredibly valid points and to an extent, I agree.
But I also think love is much too complex to break down and decipher, and it's meant to be like that.
We're not supposed to figure out, we're just supposed to feel it.
You'll know true love when you feel it but you could go on for ever trying to explain it. And why bother when you've got this amazing feeling about somebody?
Make the most of it, don't waste time dissecting it (No offence intended at all)
i like sternberg's theory of love. now i do know it really is like a textbook definition of love and love is too complicated to have a standard definition. but if you look into it, real love does need intimacy, passion, and committment. take away one, two, or all of those components and you end up with different kinds of love. i think most people can see which kinds of love they have or have had with people based on his theory, i know i can
So, I must say I agree with your idea of different types of love. I mean, I'm not old by any means, nor have I been in a ton of relationships. And when I use the word relationship I'm refering to dating, bf/gf, whatever you want to call it. A monogomous state. But there are different levels. But let me ask you this. If someone who catches your intellectual eye, while your dating someone who you feel is your true love, is that cheating? Nothing physical, just mental.
i think thats flirting with the line of cheating. ive never cheated on a partner and i constantly ask myself, 'where the roles reversed, would i have an issue with this situation?'
i think that emotional cheating is almost worse than phsycial. the physical hurts, but when its happened to me i chalked it up to not being able to statisfy that person or physically i wasnt ideal for them.
but when someone cheats emotionally, its very hard to dust yourself off and rise again.
Another one of your ever enlightening topics (no, I am not being sarcastic)! Seriously, I have vowed in the past that there is no such thing as true love. However, recently I have found myself questioning this belief (not because I am in love or have ever been in love) but because I observe certain people and think, there is potential...if I was given the chance. I loved your paper/paper shredder analogy! :)
i think its great that you arent jaded. most people write off love as a crazy idealistic notion, which it certainly can be- but it can also be beautiful..as you said, 'if given the chance.' =)
Straight guys, of course, like the sun in their eyes!
The more I watch vids from your community, the more convinced I am that we all share the same problems and issues. Most of what you said could be applied to interactions of any orientation.
I wonder if the tradition of mens' and womens' names being mostly different was to avoid the "same name" scenario?
relationships are alike regardless of gender. the same issues plague us all b/c deep down we are all human, and have the same basic emotions. and i think thats a good idea as to how the tradition came about!
nice work...never imagained a video that could incorporate the ineffable concept of love and the logical nature of a venn diagram...the only concrete idea i can come up with about love is that it is fleeting...the romantic in me says that it's eternal with your one and only, but that would be disingenuous. however i hope the romantic wins out!! i think that if people treated love as if it were more fleeting alot of loves would last alot longer....geez maybe i am a romantic!
no no!! i love that. and i commend you on still being a romantic in a world full of cynicism. i am made out to seem like some pollyanna in my family b/c i always try to see both sides logically, but always go with the most optimistic feeling. i believe what you put out into the world you get back- and if i put out love and good vibes thats only got to help. =)
Also, someone said to me once that love was giving someone the power to completely destroy you... and trusting them not to. Morbid yet cute at the same time *cough*
In My Opinion Love Is Extremely Complicaated And In Most Cases Unexplainable. I Can't Really Give A Definition Except Its Soo Strong & You Know When Its There. And Yes You Are Extremely Gorgeous !
i think that 'soulmates' and being in love with someone can at times be two separate things. i have a friend that swears her soulmate is her bestfriend..but she is very much in love with her girlfriend. so thats something to think about.
my idea of true love are two people who just compliment eachothers existance. a perfect balance. two people who can share similar interests, yet possibly have outrageously different ones..which can take your mind to places you never thought possible.
my best friend is unquestionably my soulmate- however as we both are in serious committed relationships we just refer to ourselves as 'soulfriends' haha
however i love that 'take your mind to places you never thought possible' mm thats my idea of love. i want someone who challenges me and what i believe. i want someone who makes me question everything and believe in everything.
When a teenage boy tells you "I love you," he's really thinking "I'd love to get in your pants." Love? Overused word nowadays. I believe in love, but "love at first sight" is pure BS.
haha, yes- i agree 'love at first sight' is a bit bogus. but i think that its still possible for someone to give you butterflies at first sight, someone can have such a powerful presence that you cant help but be drawn to them.
just like with 'soul mates'- im a romantic, but i think the idea of a soulmate is a bit too idealistic. even though it would be nice and comforting to believe.
Well one is love and the other is lust. My defenition of love would be someone who is willing to give their very own life so that the other could live on.
i can agree with that. because i can only think of a few people i could give my life for- my girlfriend, my best friend, and my family. and all of those people i love wholey.
Wow!!! You're cure....adorable laugh :-) d'you drive on all your blog thingy?? lol
