The facial features are more harsh/sharp

for something that has a dark theme (or so i heard) there are a lot of bright colors.

It might possibly have the effect of cheapening the story but it does give you more of the story even if from a different universe. Anime and manga do not necessarily tell stories. They are art forms meant to share complex ideas (eg character traits possibly from background history, moral, romantic to logical, etc.)

Regardless of whether or not you've found out what it's about within two weeks time, here it goes:

The story revolves around two main characters: Soul Eater, who has the power to transform into a scythe; and Maka, his meister who wields him in battle. They go to a school run by the Grim Reaper which trains weapons and meisters to fight evil monsters and witches and steal their souls to maintain peace in the world.

And yes, it is good. And more original than it may seem.

@sam0m1023 Furthermore, it follows the manga it's based on pretty faithfully until three quarters of the way through, around which point the anime producers were running out of manga to adapt at the time, so they took the story into their own hands while the manga kept (and still keeps) going on in its own direction. I recommend both, but know there are people who try to persuade others to take one side over the other.

Just noticed the comments on here regarding what the background track is for this trailer. Unfortunately there is no name for the track and you cannot get a hold of it anywhere but from the trailer. It was a custom track composed specifically for this piece. I'm glad so many people like it though! :) Maybe if enough people ask FUNimation nicely they will want to create a purchasable CD of trailer music! :)
