He doesn't have to be "Texas" country to be legit. Everyone is so obsessed with labels these days. He is a singer-songwriter who sings from his heart, what is wrong with leaving it at that. I have Texas roots but I don't go around labeling people. If it is good, it is good. Chris Knight is from Kentucky. Good for him.
That said, he really transforms this REK song into his own. This is a Chris Knight song that happened to have been written by Robert Earl Keen. It was meant for Chris all along.
I was referring to the fact that this song was originally written by Robert Earl Keen, it was sang by Chris Knight on a REK tribute album and REK IS from Texas. Ryan Bingham in fact was born in New Mexico, but raised in Texas, and yes, your pretty much wrong he is red dirt.
Chris Knight, although great and yeah real country down to the core is from Kentucky, making him definitely not red dirt. Appreciate the criticism and nit picking though.
@mwm75028 I just don't understand all these genres that have come up. Why not just call it country, like it should be. I mean, that's what it is. Even if it's not on the Nasvhville charts and all that dumb stuff. But still.
@PabstPenrose I agree. It is great that we have the internet so small indy artist can been enjoyed but people just attack one another to try to prove they are more of a fan than the other guy.
Just a display of the greatness that is Texas country! Specifically Robert earl keen and Chris really does it justice here. If yall don't know Texas country.... Look it up
@mwm75028 Chris Knight isn't Texas country, nor is it Red Dirt. He's just country music, meaning he's what country music is supposed to be. Randy Rogers, and all those other guys are Texas Country. Hence, them being from Texas. Ryan Bingham is also mistaken for "Texas Country." Maybe instead of telling people to look up the wrong thing, you could tell people to look up real country music.
Chris Knight is a great hillbilly poet and one helluva cover artist for being one of the best singer songwriters in the world. While we await his new album, maybe, he should make a cover album of some of his favorite songs. I recorded him covering 'Powderfinger", he did Johnny Cash's "Flesh And Blood" and now REK's "Undone". I'd love to hear him cover some John Prine, Jackson Browne or any of the other artists he credits as influences. About 10 more songs and I'd be one of the first in line!

@mistascott007 I love Chris' version. It seems much sadder than REK
