    Blade & Soul's controls and flow are horrible, its so clumsy and clunky feeling, ever played Rakion? The controls are EXACTLY like that, lag being just as much of an issue. IF you haven't played Rakion, go DL and play it (its free) just to get a feel for what I mean.

  • The MMO Genera is positively begging for creativity & innovation at the moment. Combat mechanics look interesting, but they'll get boring after the 1000th kill. This game hasn't shown me anything that makes me want to play it yet. In truth, it just looks like another Aion/WoW tried-and-true formula without the targeting circle...

  • yer i mean they dont call friends over or try and run away or anything its just the same static reactions everytime..they should yell were under attack and the other ents should all come tumbling over..that kind of thing...this looks just a little too simple for the graphics is what i meant...

    no point having all those fancy graphics if the gameplay is less complex than that of wow..

    You just can level if you do quests, and quests are fun in tera, i promise ;D

  • @dabozzable +1 agreed. I plugged this baby into my flat screen and played on a computer with a big processor and best graphics card and was rewarded with watching the wind rustle the trees ect... It's breathtaking from the starting level on!

  • Meh thats like asking for there to be a different way to stay alive other than breathing and eating food to keep our bodies functioning.

    Any other approach to gaining Exp in a mmorpg other than "go here do this" or "kill this many of this" would make it cease to be a entertaining game.

    Sure they could make you just talk to people or run a certain distance to gain levels, but come on lets be real here nothing else is as practical as go here do this or kill this many of this.

  • the only other thing that i could see working is leveling up by killing other players and the last company that tried that had to shut down *cough *cough Fury.

    Puzzles to lvl up, solving mysteries, finding clues to earn exp. they have all been used, but none work as well as go here kill this many etc.etc.

    Fedex quests and kill quests are the easiest way to teach a player how to play the game and it will likely never change.

    If the wheel aint broke dont fix it.

  • Well, Warhammer allows you to level entirely by killing other players, and taking over their keeps.. That was surely fun.

    However I though it could be cool to level up by participating in events ect, with levels playing less role then they do in for example wow.

  • I think the key point here is that without combat gameplay of some sort and levels being involved in some way whether it be power or lvls or w/e u wanna call it the game would start to cease being a traditional RPG and start being something else entirely.

    i too would love to see some creative change made to RPGs where your progression in the game is determined by your actions and not levels.

  • That would be quite a bit different.

    The goal of a MMO has two parts:

    (1) to entertain

    (2) to make money

    The more complex you make your game by taking away levels and traditional progression advancing quests, the less likely people are to play it since they wont feel as comfortable with the process.

    Warhammer lacks players due to its foreign concepts on leveling. Alot of people dont feel comfortable with it

    People like numbers, it lets them know how powerful they are.

  • People like fighting, it is the reason they want to play the game.

    Ive never heard somone say " oh boy i cant wait to solve the puzzle mysteries in this MMORPG".

    I'd slap a fool who said that lol.

    Bottom line if a mmorpg is geared towards combat in its gameplay, then doing anything else other than killing players/monsters or go here do this quests that gain you levels will not be accepted by the public as openly and lose the company money.

    companies follow the Recipe for mmorpg sucess.

  • Dungeons and dragons are rather popular, and their dungeons are half about solving puzzles.

    As for the non level games.. You are rather wrong. Sure, people like numbers, but numbers can be represented differently.

    Gor example, take sandbox games like Darkfall, EvE, or MO. They are all quite popular too, because there are many people out there who like freedom, and the fact that they are not a number.

    As for WAR, I loved its levelling through RvR. Its nothing foreign. It failed due to bugs.

  • Well I agree that Darkfall, EvE and MO are nice games. Those games all have ways of becoming more powerful that dont stray too far from traditional means. Something will always have to be leveled up or powered up or trained up in order to be more effective.

    the only thing those games offer Is a LARGE open world to explore without zones and such. They still fall under that level up mentality.

    The only game that I have seen so far that has done Non levels well is Guild Wars. Strategy not Power

  • This game is really cool as it involves player skill to aim at the target since theres no auto targeting system.

    I find this take on mmorpgs fresh and exciting. It makes you actually pay attention instead of button mashing while you watch tv at the same time.

    Wow'ish you mean mmorpg-ish, not saying that mmrpgs are bad but they all pretty much invlove Go, there kill that in some fashion. As long as going there and killing that is fun and rewarding they not bad,This looks good though and the aiming function looks interesting, no auto-attack.

  • Only because most mmos chose to have poor design on starting quests, doesn't means its not possible to do better.

  • The go there kill this is a part of questing true they could make some quests that have more to them. such as solve though puzzles, riddles secret areas ect and actully find the answers on your own instead of it being made cut and dry but quests are feature/content not gameplay. Gameplay is how the game features/content work. Take WoW quests sence you brought WoW its "go here-kill ? of that" quests the gameplay aspect would be the combat of what it wants you to kill.- not enough room

  • some quests have no gameplay at all like dilivery quests. Inless theres battleing of other players or monsters to protect the package or good. Or having solve puzzles ect there just a way for exp or lead to more important quests that have gameplay.

  • thats how most modern mmos are, sadly. Ever since WoW, MMOs have been going down in quality, so now we're stuck with tasks that try to be quests. Exp should not be mainly from quests.
