Hi itproof...i have the same problem that happened to me two weeks ago with my with my hp dv9700 laptop...what is the best recommendation to the problem
wow same thing happened to me.now nothing shows up when i boot and it restarts continuously if i dont hit f9 and still nothing shows it just sits running.

when you have this White screen and lines , does this mean GPU is dead or the motherboard is dead? what should i do? . i have the exact whitening of screen and i cannot lug in another monitor because the card doesnt recognize it unless you go to the settings and enable the 2nd monitor.
I have a DV9700 HP LAPTOP that finally died on me Friday night Iwas using a external monitor screen went out six months ago .It worked fine until tried to power up lights come on and drive for a second and then loops again and again!
hello guys...i had the same problem....and i thought that was the mother board..i bought a new one and i replaced it...ehan i finished the replacement i hit tha power button and it does the same thing..this screen with the grey-white clouds or something....and i thought that the problem may be io screen's cable....heeeelllppp please!!!!!

HP sold those everywhere. You will find websites like "HPlies" everywhere. French complain, as well as people from the US, Russia...
GPU from Nvidia is the problem. This is overheating. This computer spends his time cooling down using the fan with no interruption. No need to play video games, just check your emails, the fan is already runnning at fast speed.
my hp pavilion dv9702 does have problems like overheating etc. but, how comes whenever i put an external monitor into the notebook, the boot screen only shows at the notebook monitor but not the external monitor.
Not to mention I just had a computer in my shop about 2 days ago that did this same thing. Moving the monitor slightly fixed the problem, which quite obviously shows that there was a problem in the video signal (perhaps a screwed up ribbon/cord?).
Been 2 years now. Im not saying it wont go again but its looking good. My tip, give it room underneath so it doesnt overheat. Still its a shame for what is otherwise a great machine.
I dont see why people are putting thumbs down on the people that say HP sucks.. GUESS WHAT HP DOES SUCK.. they need to burn in hell.. everyone that works for them aswell. they lie and dont help at all.. fuck them to hell -.-
Is you GPU still working? In some cases there is a way how to fix it with rework station. Heat up GPU to 220 degrees for 1 min and than leave cool down for 20 min. It's shoul work again. But try to ask some it guy for help.
HP SUX, i had this issue and it nearly cost me 800 dollars to get it all replaced and 4-5 months of wait time Plus im having the same issues over and over again now....
hp are the worst company ever. avoid them and tell others to avoid them too. they will simply stab u in the back. go to apple or dell instead. atleast they are RELIABLE!
hp actually makes good printers. only cuz they don't achieve as good as other companies doesn't make all their products completely horrible. I don't see Apple and Dell making good printers enough to compete with HP.
when i turn my dv9000 laptop on it comes up with a grey screen which later turns into various colours with a maroon strip in the middle now when i connect my laptop to a external monitor it says no input signal guys any idea with identifying the problem with my laptop ??? reply back to me please
@fmznetwork says No input signal because the resolution of the external display is wrong or set down, & sometimes the video keeps flickering ´cause the g card is trying to match the best resolution. Most of the time the resolution of the nb is high, and the external screen (secondary) is low, then no match is achieved. Other times the secondary screen cannot achieve the automatic resolution and display the same message "no input signal".
@fmznetwork yeah it´s a shame. & Thats the reason why you can see the POST in the external monitor, because it uses a low res, after that you get a black screen. S--t happens.
mine has broken hinges but i was asking everybody else if they want to get rid of their broken dv9000.... doesn't matter to me what is wrong with it lol i lost the screws to the hinges so i'll probably have to epoxy any new hinges i get to the screen to hold it if i cannot find screws
well i have the dv6101eu and has the wifi fault but its had the same motherboard in it for over 2 years my hingers are good but theres a dv9000 or 6000 that is fault because they both have the same hingers but my screen has cracked on the side but not the hinges
I had the some problem but now it is fixed thanks to someone on utube. Turn on the laptop and have the screen opened, wrap the lower casing in a blanket and leave for around 1 hr. Un wrap and then let it cool down and then restart it. It didnt work the first time but it did work the 2nd time and now my laptop is working fine.
My dv9000 was purchased new in september 2007, internal wireless card doesn't exist after 18months so I just connect it with ethernet cable. 7 months later (now) screen will start failing and computer freezes. I have read that both of these issues are related to the motherboard. I will try dell next.
If your HP laptop has video problems, you want to see these sites.... hplies. com and the post's on HP's site, Notebook Computers (Laptops) > Display and video > hp dv9500 screen problem
there is a two year warranty on these pieces of crap hp had to give an extra year because of the faulty graphic cards. I hope this help's so contact HP to see if your laptop is one of the batch with the faulty cards.
I have the same laptop..and just found that nvidia and hp are very aware of this problem with the faulty design, yet they talk circles in fixing it.Hp just recieved 2million to fix or replace their errors..well.... were is it?Hp will talk circles around to avoid having to fix what they screwed up..and they screwed alot of people out of their hard earned money..
Hello again ! Writing here as my notebook broke down again after a second and better reflow of the video chipset. It lasted for almost a month and today the screen kept going blank for a few seconds and when I restarted I no longer had any video signal on the notebook screen. As it was the third attempt to heat the chipset, I guess it's time to buy a board from ebay as I don't want to spend almost 2/3 of the price of a new motherboard for an infrared resoldering which may not fix the problem.
I just got my dv 9000 back from repairs, the video card gave way completely tho, the guy behind the counter said that with this computer, theres only one thing you need: warranty. LoL, stupid HP!!!!! Lucky I got 3 years warranty...
its awful. the graphics card (nvidia 8600m gs) has died once, then hp repaired it, but they forgot to reconnect the heatsink (they said they replaced it, but it is obvious they screwed up). now it has hard drive and memory issues, and apparently the left hinge has a tendency to MELT and break.
never buying ANYTHING by hp ever again. they cant even get printer drivers right.
i have this computer and it really died on me. i pushed the power button and then only the lights came on. nothing else. just completely quiet. and when we got to hp they never realized that we had this computer so now we have 1 year extra guarantee! yay!
All I can wish you is GOOD LUCK, but for me also, because this summer I'll be heading to a bigger city where they have this kind of technology and hopefully I'll get my notebook working fine again.
Garantie 1 an si dupa aia asta e.
HP pentru mine nu mai exista. M-am ars o data gata.
The solution is to reflow the video card BGA on a local laptop service, using infrared heating. In my town, I don't have such technology (dooh, I'm from Northern Romania), but using a heat gun on a local mobile phone service prooved this was the problem as the laptop worked fine again, but only for a couple of days.
You can try hooking an external monitor using the D-SUB output. I did this on mine and there was video signal on the external monitor, but the only resolution possible was 640x480x4bit. I later find out the problem was the VIDEO CARD, embedded on the motherboard. In fact, it wasn't dead, but it only didn't make contact with the motherboard (it's a BGA chip and it has bad soldering).
Same problem here, having a dv9340ea notebook, 1 year warranty. It's a very common problem on this model, because of the bad design and motherboard overheating. Mine used to work for about 1 year from I bought it, but the screen is now black when I power it on, no beeps, hard drive working, windows booting (I can even hear the startup sound of Windows Vista).
This laptop is awesome first month i had it me and my friend were driving to alabama i sit it on the back seat and he happens to have to jam the brakes the thing flys off the seat and smashes into a jack sitting on the floor other than the small indent nothing came loose.
On the other hand just recently like a year later the little chip just behind the HP logo behind the screen a power cord came loose and that was causeing the back light to not light so i opened it up and plugged that sucker back in and its now working like new again.
same problem here but a couple of days ago I got in contact with a case manager and he granted me a free repair. The box was at my boyfriends job the next day (he works at a postal store). So he just gave it to the fedex guy to send to california but I haven't heard from HP since... I hope they don't give me the SAME FAULTY CHIP
I have this same model, and mine is getting repaired for the Left Hinge as we speak. HP left a message for me yesterday telling me that my motherboard is corrupted and it would cost me to fix it. I'm afraid to get my laptop back now...... =(
i would like to ask those of you who already had your laptops repaired if HP is still conducting a free repair and if HP asked you to pay for it? I'm having the same problem and i already tried contacting them on their online chat support many times.
my lappy is a dv9002TX, i'm constantly battling to keep it cool. i've resorted to propping up the back and running a desk fan behind it, which works unless i run something like halflife 2 or CoD4 for too long. any suggestions for keeping this thing cool?
i got this thing with like 4 fans that i put it on top of and it plugs into the usb... cost $40ish at like best buy or something im not sure where i got it actually
I have the exact same 'bleeding' problem on the display. After more than a month harrassing HP, they finally replaced the motherboard.
But after 3 months of working perfectly, the laptop suddenly stop working again. This time, there is no display, DVD drive spins 3 times then stops, fan on low power, the LED's stay on. The laptop just stays dead when I press any key..
It is indeed a graphics chip burned up. Mine will boot up in safe mode with an external monitor but it has only 4-bit color and vertical lines. The video chip is integrated with the motherboard so the solution is a new motherboard. Certain models (I thing only the AMD chipped) are covered by HP. Check their website, you might get it fixed for free.
the EXACT same thing happened for me. i'm pretty sure it's a cooling problem with the 17'' models. it was a couple of months outside warrenty so it cost a bit to replace, really hoping it doesn't happen again. i'm about to upgrade the RAM to 4gb too.
I have a DV9335r. It's not on the list of free repairs, but I'm not letting that stop me. HP IS going to fix my computer. Anyway, I told them I either want mine replaced, mine fixed, or my money back. Keep in mind, I got this thing 2 years ago, cost $2000. Anyway, I feel for anyone with these problems.
Please tell me that you got HP to fix this problem. I paid 1200 for mine almost 2 years ago and I can't believe it crapped out like this. I have a dv9335nr model and I'm out of the warrenty plus the free repair doesn't apply to me. If enough of us complain maybe they will change their mind?
To be honest, not yet, but I'm NOT giving up. The more you call in, the better. Go to HP and chat with someone, tell them you want a case manager. Then talk to them, they should call you because the chat support will log your info when you give it to them. They say that if enough people complain, ours will be put on the list. Don't give up! This is for us and all others like us. I'm not letting them get away with this! You shouldn't either. Good luck! Keep me posted by the way!
thet r none for bad graphics card over heating and a whole list of other problems look online -hp dv9000 problems more and more people r complaing on this piece of crap microsoft put together and wont honor...
ive had the same problem 3 times, brought it back to best buy 3 times and all three times, the said the motherboard has fried. yet they wont do anything else about it, its nvidia's fault. they sold the card knowing it was faulty
WHO THE HELL PUTS THE FAN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE COMPUTER! That's like going underwater and stuffing a pillow in your face to breathe. BAH sorry im just pissed because my computer has a fucking crack on the side of it D= they sold it to me used...fucking future shop.
My dv9000 without prompting is booting in safe mode (BIG ICONS) but in the lower right hand corner is saying that it is in protected mode...what gives? Is this a gpu issue? After a few restarts,it starts normally idk whats goin on.
No, it's problem of graphics card. It's just meter of time while it will go to completely black screen. Other models with graphics card problem: DV2000, DV6000... Problem of nVidia Graphics cards, bad cooling system of graphics processor, overheating

The dv9000 is great, I've had it for a year now and everything is working perfectly.

I have this exact model and have a similar problem, except mine wouldn't even show a GHOST SCREEN. sigh. HP is a major tsk tsk.

same problem here but a couple of days ago I got in contact with a case manager and he granted me a free repair.

I have the exact same 'bleeding' problem on the display. After more than a month harrassing HP, they finally replaced the motherboard.
But after 3 months of working perfectly, the laptop suddenly stop working again. This time, there is no display, DVD drive spins 3 times then stops, fan on low power, the LED's stay on. The laptop just stays dead when I press any key..
but now

PaperDollSaige 2 years ago
Please tell me that you got HP to fix this problem. I paid 1200 for mine almost 2 years ago and I can't believe it crapped out like this. I have a dv9335nr model and I'm out of the warrenty plus the free repair doesn't apply to me. If enough of us complain maybe they will change their mind?
ouodi 2 years ago
To be honest, not yet, but I'm NOT giving up. The more you call in, the better. Go to HP and chat with someone, tell them you want a case manager. Then talk to them, they should call you because the chat support will log your info when you give it to them. They say that if enough people complain, ours will be put on the list. Don't give up! This is for us and all others like us. I'm not letting them get away with this! You shouldn't either. Good luck! Keep me posted by the way!

thegamefanaticshow 3 years ago
No, it's problem of graphics card. It's just meter of time while it will go to completely black screen. Other models with graphics card problem: DV2000, DV6000... Problem of nVidia Graphics cards, bad cooling system of graphics processor, overheating
