  • Can't believe they basically destroyed all of the f-14s so parts wouldn't fall in Iran's hands. Is that how bad our security is? Cant just put them away in case we need them in the future?Iran could just buy parts off the Black Market if they didn't destroy them all? I don't get it. Well, if you want to see one of these fly again, gotta go to an Irianian air show. Last I read they are modifying some of their f-14s.

  • @nimaside I am sure that the F-14s weren't destroyed just because the Navy thought that their National Security was too lacking but in this day and age you never know who is watching and who may be plotting what. Not everything though was destroyed as many of the US Navys aircraft, mainly the Hornets, could accommodate most of the Avionics boxes and other electronic equipment given the amount of upgrades given to the F-14. It was mainly airframe structure and components that were destroyed.

  • @tomcatter11 True, but it still seems overkill. I mean I ran still have f-4 phantoms. We are not only still using them for target practice, but airshows cause people still like to see these aircraft fly. Who wouldn't like to go see an f-14 at an airshow. Airshows are full of aircraft the U.S. no longer use. I don't know, it just seems kind of fishy.

  • @nimaside Alot of them were put in storage like alot of other planes in bone yards

  • @nimaside i THINK ISRAEL i still using the f14 they bought from the us,so i would guess they either bought or got the spare parts they could use

  • @nimaside They destroyed the unused F-14's because they were concerned the next administration would sell the parts to the enemy. The obama administration licks everyones nuts, especially the enemies nuts. look at China, Obama is having a wonton and fried rice cockfest as we speak. just my .02 cents.

  • Would have to one of the most beautiful looking warplanes ever built

  • Flight records, the f14 is in the hands of Iranian pilots War with Iraq

12 hours a day , Iranian pilots with a rocket launcher, three Iraqi aircraft destroyed.

  • @tomcatter11 Thx again for the reply, just wondering, why they didn't retain tomcats fleet, and elected super hornet instead.i know that they designed it from scratch as a fleet interceptor, and Hornets was meant for A6 intruder replacement, not purely fleet interceptor,I guess they want to find 3 in 1 multy role aircraft not just a replacement, but still I love the A6 payload and range which both Hornets couldn't even close to match them

  • only i can remember the squadron scheme in the tal, in the movie top gun, and is not it, in the movie the plane is from the squadron, that i cant rmemenber the name, but it was called " fist of the fleet".so the pilot isnt tom cruise hihhi. sorry for my bad english, greetings from argentina. ANYTIME BABY!!

  • @bigfefu the squadron unit you are refering to was VFA-25 "Fist of the Fleet" and was actually a Hornet unit. All squadron emblems in the Top Gun movie were ficticious in that they did not belong to tomcat units. The tomcats used in the movie were either VF-1 Wolfpack or VF-124 Gunfighters jet which had VF-1 written as the unit number but the emblem was from a Hawkeye squadron.

  • @tomcatter11 i didnt knew that...thanks a lot

  • @bigfefu

To sound like a pill the insignia is from what became VFA25 and was known as the fist of the fleet, the other squadron (the one maveric belongs to) was known as VF1 the wolf pack

  • Such shite music for a cool vid

  • I use to own one as a toy but real expensive one in 80's like $30 lol

  • Other than, those sitty P&W engines, why not re-engine them with GE engines & put in new avionics

  • @pushitgently001p ther later F-14B and F-14D variants did have GE engines and upgraded avionics which aided in the air to ground role for the tomcat.

  • dear American dung

  • F111.

  • Me think there be "drivers" on here. Although the tomcat was troublesome, and had too many damn parts to maintain, and more often than not the motors were known to cause flameouts, still - 2 American F14s against a squadron of enemy aircraft was more than enough to put the fear of God into those enemy pilots and cause them to rethink their reasons for being there and make them bugout. Today we have NOTHING like the legendary F14. India & Iran are the ONLY countries with flyable Tomcats.

  • @RockerDave12 correction...Iran is the only country to have purchased the tomcat outsides of the USA. To date Iran still flies their jets. India has never had any tomcats.

  • The pilot is Lt. Jack Hoff, and his "Rio" was LCDR. Phil Aysheo. The troublesome Tomcat was soon to be replaced by the Marine F/A-18 Hornet flown by none other than Colonel Lingus.

  • Not best, but very beautiful and legendary aircraft.

  • Yep Hornets suck alright. Here's a step back for you. It now takes two EA-18G Growlers to do the job of one EA-6B Prowler. So there's more fuel to consume more weapons and stores to load which means twice the work load for the guys on deck to do to get the aircraft readied for flight. Don't congress think about this when they sign military contract etc?

  • F-18 suck!there landing gear is fucking stupid, there not balanced, they have a tendency to skid out landing, they nose dive big time when trapped,,,F-14 was solid. The hornet's like a step back to me?

  • Bitch ass Goverment...Was it really neccessary to shred all 600 and somthing T.Cat's?You suck!!!

  • Tomcat's,what can i say...Very missed.

  • Maybe the most beautiful plane of the cold war. (maybe today...?)

  • What's the difference between the F-14 versions? F-14, F-14A/B/D, etc.

  • COOOOOUUUUUGAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The pilot at 2:00 is Tom Cruise. Glad I could help!

  • @zoso682 I wish!! That would have been too obvious. Been doing a little research into who the crew was through a few connections. No one seems to know who the pilot was apart from spectualtion of the call sign.

  • @zoso682 I hope that was a sarcastic comment. Tom Cruise would not be flying a then prototype A+ or D. The pilot was someone in VX-4 probably not the person whos call sign was on the side of the canopy.

  • how much the price :)

  • @tomcatter11 Now that is something that can be believed although doubtful given that the tomcats were able to be used and fire their weapons during their war with Iraq. I honestly would have loved to see those birds come back home after that fall but I know that was not even a possibility......lol

  • @JPStuehrenberg Anything is possible though. But then who knows what actually happened.

  • @beergut111 There are no mechanisms in the Iranian f-14 tomcats that would allow us to blow them up, if there was we would have blown them up right after the shah of Iran was overthrown.

  • @JPStuehrenberg Whilst no devices were installed to destroy the aircraft it has been speculated that Grumman engineers working in Iran when the tomcats were delivered, disabled parts of the firing system to launch weapons from the Iranian Tomcats prior to their departure during the fall of the Shah. How true this is, has never been confirmed nor denied. Quite possible though perhaps.

  • The demonstrated performance of the F-14 Delta as a pursuit jet is essentially what I pictured for an F-14 Echo attack-specific version (to replace the A-6 Echo) and an EF-14 Golf electronic-warfare version (to parallel the USAF/Grumman EF-111 and replace the EA-6 Bravo). Modern fighter mission requirements favor Boeing's F-18 Echo and Foxtrot, but the F-14 still would have had some life in the attack mission.

  • Here in Oklahoma the Air National Guard was slated to take over aging F-14s when F/A-18 joined the arsenal. Deemed to expensive to maintain, new F-16s bought as more economical.

  • The Tomcat was built to counter the Soviet strategy of launching overwhelming numbers of air-to-surface anti-ship missiles at our carrier battle groups. The AIM-54 Phoenix missile was the longest range missile produced and carried on any US aircraft - in tests it hit targets up to 126 miles away. The F-14 could carry six of them. Well, it could take off with six; they were too heavy for it to safely land with six. That was referred to as a 'Doomsday loadout.'

  • @StarkRavingBrad17 Very good points about the AIM-54 missile. The advancements and upgrades to the radar system and the subsequent installation of the APG radar on the F-14D variant also helped the performance of the later AIM-54C version as the actual electronic interface between missile and jets was increased. This obviously gave the crew the benefit of having a little longer to identify their targets either through the TCS, IR, IFF or LANTIRN sensors.

  • Usual loadout was 4 Phoenix and 2-4 Sparrow/Sidewinder mix. The idea was to hit the Russian Badgers and Backfires before they could launch all their ordinance at us.

The Toms were kings of the sky for quite a while there, for my money the most beautiful and badassed naval fighter ever produced, by far. I like Hornets, but they don't have anywhere near the mystique of the venerable and legendary F-14. 'Tomcats forever, baby' is right!

  • @StarkRavingBrad17 She is powerful as she is beautiful.. i wish they could have made an F-14 E or something.. a model more economical to maintain but still with the f-14 look..

  • very underrated aircraft

  • F14 was big and heavy, and not too maneuverable at all vs it's superior nemesis, the Mig-29 Fulcrum.. Yeah we remember the cool swept wings and Top Gun, But it was a multi-role aircraft from another era. Cool fighter, but not too effective in today's combat requirements. The Super Hornet is a much more effective fighter.

  • @mayorts3 True, but remember the MiG 29 came around much later. I still think the Navy would have been better off with a version of the Eagle - but they had already signed their contracts when the Eagle came along.

  • The F-14 is one of my Top 5 fighters of all time. Sad they were retired from the US Navy and replaced by the F-18...

  • The Tomcat was not just a jet, it was truly a bird.

  • what they should have done for the new fighter was make an updated version of a tomcat and call it the tomcat II like they did for the A-10 warhog

  • @chemislife The A-10's official name is the Thunderbolt II - because the P-47 from WW2 already used the name Thunderbolt. Warthog is just a nickname it picked up because it's so "ugly" only a mother (or pilot) could love her. Personally, I think she's a thing of beauty!

  • the USA installed special equipment into iran's f14 so that we can blow them up if need be. You really didnt think we trusted that much did ya? after all they are muslim terrorist ass holes.

  • there are obviously 12 muslim ass holes here

  • How could disable (prematurely) on this machine?

  • go! go! go ! go!

  • GO FOR IT IRAN!! You guys certainly have a legendary war machine!

  • Favorite fighter ever...and that was before the movie Top Gun. Mr. Tomcat would eat your lunch, drink your beer, and boink your wife while you're still trying to figure out which way was up! A shame they had to be retired. Hope we don't get into a situation w/ China where we really wished we still had something to shoot the longrange Phoenix missle from.

  • My best air fighter!

  • This has always been my favorite! I made a model where the wings would sweep and I flew that thing all over my neighborhood...

  • THIS IS SUPERIOR AIR TO CARRIER-THIS IS SUPERIOR AIR TO CARRIER. JUST COLLECTED 3 MORE ACES AND KISS ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR CARRIERS TO THE SEA BOTTOM DO YOU HAVE MY MY NEW ODDS AVAILBLE? OVER.

  • US and UK cooperation at its best. Swing wong invented by Barnes Wallis who also invented the bouncing bomb, tallboy and grand slam bombs, ejector seatrs made in the UK fired fro a carpault invented by thos brits as well. For me the best looking plane the US have built aslong with the P51 and Super Sabre. And actually got mixed up in the real deal as well.

  • Hey guys, I'm curious about what happens to all the old F-14s now that they're out of service. I cannot imagine they're all simply rusting away, but maybe I'm wrong. Do they use them for training purposes, or for anything else? What a beautiful machine. It's amazing that something designed for functionality and effectiveness inadvertently became so aesthetically unique. The swept wing is so cool.

  • @khasperg Apart from the tomcats that begin museum pieces or sent to air parks at various bases, all were cut up, sold for scrap and more than likely was the last soda can you drank from. It is true because given the current situation with Iran who still fly their tomcats, the US did not want Iran getting hold of any parts in order to maintain their fleet or have the same capabilities as US Air power.

  • @tomcatter11 Very interesting. Thanks for the insights!

  • @tomcatter11 There in the Bone Yard and taken care of for later service use.

Iran can't get any F-14's to start with. Its not the plane they needed. it was the electronic equipment and the know how to program them they needed. You need a very special trained tech from Grumman or the Navy to do it.

  • I love all the Russian comments. Don't they know that most Americans don't speak Russian and don't care to translate the crap they have to say anyway?

  • @hyboost Who says youtube is just for Americans? It's not that difficult to translate anything in the internet.

  • @tomcatter11 It is an american site, go to russia's equivalent.. oh wait, there is none.

  • @tomcatter11 I'm an american and i agree but most of YouTube is in English.

  • @tomcatter11 it is when you use google translate

  • @hyboost Ха-ха, еще один пиндос считает, что весь мир должен говорить на английском. :-)

  • @hyboost Hello monkeyfuck. Did it ever occur to you that possibly the Russian commenters don't care that you can't read their comments? I am quite sure they can read yours though, and are probably laughing at your ignorance and self-glorification of your one-language brain. Please continue to do what americans do best, and celebrate your ignorance! Thank you.

  • Definitely the good old nostalgic nineties

  • a beaut - no further comment except God Bless America

  • My Uncle Don who was blown off the deck of the BB-39 said " I wish we had 2 of those that day" BB-39 was the Arizona

  • ANYTIME BABY!

  • One of the US Navy's Greatest Multi Role Fighter Bomber Interceptor's ever flown in naval avation long live the Tomcat like I said anytime baby!!!!

  • Tomcat AnyTime BABY!!!!

  • was anybody else hearing "this is ghost rider requesting flyby" in there heads?

  • Back to its time, what is the role of the F14?

  • @themangix357 the original role of the tomcat was long range fighter/interceptor for the fleet as it had much greater range and performance that that of the F-4 Phantom which it replaced. As various upgrades were made, it was adapted to the low level strike role using dumb bombs before finally taking on the role of precision bombing with the integration of the Lantirn system.

  • @tomcatter11 how many f-14 has iran?

  • If a F14D went one on one with the Super Hornet, that would be an interesting fight. I would hate to see those large AIM54's coming at me if I were in the Hornet. The Tomcat has a lot more top speed than the F18, but the F18 E/F is an awesome fighter too.

  • Defence department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid.....Great Balls Of Fire!

  • Fuck the F22 !!!

150 millions of dollars per unit and there is rust on the ejectable seat for uncorrect cockpit

    assembly.

  • great jet love it , still think it was ahead of it,s time

  • sexiest fighter jet ever made :)

  • The Turbo Kat Jet from Swat Kats :)

  • A little more info on the F-14D. The first production F-14D BuNo 163412 went to a test and development unit to test and improve the Digital Flight Control System or DFCS. VX-4 Evaluators as seen in the video were the first unit to be equiped with the type. The last BuNo tomcat off the Calverton production line was 164604 and was painted black operated by VX-9 Vampires. That jet now resides at NAS Oceana in Virginia.

  • Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.

  • @kiman2 yep the old quotes are the best. Thats a common response to questions in my workplace along with "the list is long but distinguished" to questions like How much work you got left to do?.

  • @kiman2 lol i say that all the time

  • Great video

  • yeah!!!! i like this!!!!!cccccccccooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • Hehe, I like this. First video ever posted and heaps of positive stuff. But then you can't but like the cat!! Here kitty kitty!! Do that to this cat and it will likey shoot you!!

  • Very Cool man Thubs Up..Tim

  • So rare!!!

  • SKYSTRIKER!

  • "anyone know what the name of the pilot here?" aw yeah its Lt. Pete Mitchelle AKA maverick hahahaha

  • @reynaerc haha yeah that would be too obvious but I like your thinking!!

  • Hi very nice vid :)

F-14's wings automated controlled or need to control manually I mean the angle of wings? Thanks

  • @tesenki The wings were an automated affair as wing sweep worked in sync with the intake ramp doors and wing glove vanes. In the B models the gloves were deactivated and in the D they were deleted from the design. The crew of either version could override the system and select manual wing sweep control. The intake ramp doors are there to slow down the airflow into the engines at higher speed to prevent compressor stall, this even applys to the GE F110 aswell as the less reliable TF30 engines

  • are iran still flying f 14s ?????

  • @The00000077777777777 Apparently yes, the Iranians are still flying their tomcats. They somehow managed to find a away of manufacturing their own parts which is why they are still managing to fly them. This is the exact reason why the US Navy had an accelerated scrapping and cataloging system so that the Iranians could not get hold of any parts. There are some videos here on youtube from only 2 or 3 years ago showing refurbished F-14s flying in their new blue schemes.

  • @tomcatter11 They also cannibalized other F-14s for parts.

  • @FutureMarine1775USA This is true that other F-14s were cannabalized for parts. Very often on the carriers, there would be at least one aircraft out of each squadron that would be used as a spares jet. Usually it was because the aircraft had a problem in which it could no longer fly for the remainder of the cruise, so it would be used to supply the rest of the fleet.

  • Here is some extra info for the aircraft in the video and F-14Ds in general: Aircraft BuNo believed to be 160413 was the second of the type to be delivered to VX-4 Evaluators. Later flown by VX-9 Vampires when VX-4 and VX-5 merged (get it 4+5=? you do the math!). Has two GE F110-GE-400 engines producing 27,000lbs thrust at max augmentation. All F-14Ds could be equiped with TARPS pod unlike A and B versions. Live feed installed called ROVER for precision bombing by Forward Air Controllers.

  • This must have been the inspiration for 'Top Gun'. Tomcat with wings back is one bad ass looking airplane.

  • @rwsmith29456 Your right the tomcat is one bad ass looking aircraft with its wings swept back but this was produces some 5 years after Top Gun so probably vice versa. Top Gun was produced in 1985 with release to cinemas in 1986. This video was created around 1990-1991.

  • @tomcatter11 Thanks for setting me straight there. The video said NEW F-14 but I didn't catch that it was the 'D' model. So maybe it's the other way around

  • @rwsmith29456 Sorry, put my reply in the wrong place. Anyway...Thanks for setting me straight there. The video said NEW F-14 but I didn't catch that it was the 'D' model. So maybe it's the other way around

  • Gotta love the cat. I miss my birds. But there is still a few around in storage in AZ.

    VF-2 Bounty Hunters NAS Oceana.

  • @midnightstar04 I thought they chopped up all of the Tomcats....

  • @FutureMarine1775USA Not all F-14s in US Navy service were chopped up as many went to museums and air parks at many of the bases at which it operated from. NAS Ocean has the last ever tomcat produced with the serial number 164604 and has many paint schemes since it was retired in 2003 when it wore the famous Vandy 1 all over black scheme and NAS Fallon has an ex Topgun jet. The Tomcat Association has a page on its website listing all known tomcat resting places.

  • @tomcatter11 Well I know that, there is an F-14A on display in my town at the USS Midway Museum. But most have been chopped up for scrap metal, which ruins the chance of buying a de-militarized F-14 if I ever win the lottery.

  • I haven't seen this video in years. Good find! And that's for showing it here. The greatest plane of it's time.

  • Um why is this described as an extremely rare video?

  • @flatpat I described the video as "Extremely rare" because to my knowledge, Grumman never publicly released this video and nor has it been issued anywhere else. I only came across it when I purchased a dvd of old F-14 Movies from a current US Navy instructor. I guess only those in the Navy community may have seen this video. Therefore hence "Exteremely rare". Just thought I would give the F-14 fan community a chance to see something not normally seen before.

  • cold war aircrafts were much better looking than those nowadays

  • The 3 that dislike this vid fly MiGs

  • I am gonna fly one of those of of that Aircraft Carrier when I'm old enough

  • @sarahlovespeople Got news for you... It ain't gonna happen. These jets are long gone and they ain't coming back. I used to think was going to get a shot at it too until September 22 2006 came along!

  • @tomcatter11 may i ask what happen that day?

  • @tomcatter11 September 22 2006 was the official day that the Grumman F-14 Tomcat was decommisioned from US Naval service and inducted into the history books. The ceremony was held at NAS Oceana in Virginia to an audience of pilots and maintainers past and present as well as the CEO of Northrop Grumman. VF-31 Tomcatters took the stage as the last remaining Tomcat unit as AJ104 took to the air for the last time and sent to AMARC in Arizona to be scrapped.

  • @tomcatter11 for the F-14 TOMCAT, this is not fucking fair

  • @Skybolter it is a shame that many iconic aircraft eventually meet the same fate. In the 26 years of my life I have seen these aircraft decommed: F-14 Tomcat, Sepecat Jaguar, Blackburn Bucanneer, Avro Shackleton, Lockheed C-141, Vickers VC-10, BAe Nimrod and more. Unfortunately fatigue and usage is fact of life these aluminium flying machines.

  • @tomcatter11 The F-14 was one hellava fighter I remeber the day they had one of the scrapyard on the news saying many pilots are going to miss the Tomcat. The F/A-18 took the tomcats place.

  • @AvengedSevenfold9000 yeah I hate that. Cats by choice, bugs by madate!! The Super Hornet although has more gadgets etc, cannot maintain the range and other statistics that the Tomcat could. I mean what other jet can track 24 targets, prioritise the 6 most hostile and shoot six missiles at the same time and leave without the need to track the flight of each missile and start attacking the next hostile threat?

  • @tomcatter11 Damn right the F-14 Tomcat dominates the only thing that the hornet has over the tomcat is maneuverability and radar.

  • @tomcatter11 I know. A girl can dream. I AM gonna be on an Aircraft Carrier though. Or the USS Princeton. A missle craft but Navy nonetheless

  • @sarahlovespeople They are gone like a fart in a hurricane.

  • i will kill to just kiss an f 14 !!!!

  • nah bro.... those wings would fully take that control tower the fuck out

  • this is the reason i want to join the NAVY to fly an A217 F14 TOMCAT

  • @DiLiG3N7 they arent in service anymore

  • @houndbacker33 what!! whatever i still want to serve my country

  • Love it

  • This is an incredible video. love it

  • I'm wondring, what do they do with the leftover payloads if there is any?Do they land on the carrier with it and use it for next time,or do they still do it the old fashion ww2 way = dropp em in th ocean??

I would like facts not speculation if possible

  • the fact is that it is dupmed in the ocean!!

  • they land emty handed so that they dont put 6000 navy personel in harms way.

  • @girlmusiclvr33 okay thanx

  • The SWAT Kats plane was a F14

  • @NIDORAX A modified one because the real F-14 doesn't carry missiles that eat stuff lol.

  • If its on YouTube, it aint rare video any more..

  • Mgwilliams1000 and Allday19sD. Thanks for. Your service !

  • Look at enjoy the past fellas- because the drones (manless) with almost unlimited g-force tolerance is now here to fly from a LazyBoy chair at the pentagon.

  • I didn't think the Carl Vinson was till going that late. Must be still steaming around I bet? I recon that image of an F-14 on the deck, with wings spread, with eveyrhting hanging down, nose leg collapsed and full zone 5 A/B cannot and has not been beaten by any other aircraft yet. I mean it just screams power and aggression when it is fully bombed up!

  • @tomcatter11 As retired CAG 14 MCPO I have to say, one of my favorite carrier aircraft. An old A-7 guy myself but I truly liked this bird, and respected it on the flight deck. She was HUGE for ship ops and sometimes hard to manage daily maintenance spots. That said, she will be missed. I had the honor to take her, and VF-31 "FELIX" through her last combat cruise. AFCM Mike Williams

  • I was on the uss Carl Vinson and got a privilege to launch them off as an ABE in 2001

  • There just isn't anything in the world that's quite as cool as a Tomcat hitting the sky in full Zone Five blower!

  • If I lived in the 80s....

  • The most beautiful plane ever.

  • @Axon36 agreed, too bad its retired!

  • @zackhanscom; tomcatter11 & Spionsilver both have it right. I fuckin' hate computer dweebs with a fucking passion!

  • look at the pilot.....its topper harley!!!!

  • What a fuckin beautiful jet. Long live the beast!

  • @XxFightinDirtyxX go on then.

  • if you want to watch this with sound follow my steps..

    1. Open another youtube

    2. Type poppiholla

3 click on the first music vid.

    4. Play it the same time as this clip..

there you go now thumbs me up so people can see.

  • How can be 3 people that doesn´t like the video. idiots

  • @pichueka Maybe they did it by accident considering the dislike button is right next to the like button? doesn't anyone ever think about that? :| or maybe you should put a ''whoever disliked this video got bombed by a Tomcat....... and get a ton of likes? .......

  • @WePlayGods Yeah what he said!!
