  • All of you are saying it was unnecessary but he MJ did that out of instinct, not to show off. He saw Sam Perkins coming from his right side, and sSam Perkins didn't just have the nick name "long arms" for nothing. He had a very long wingspan. MJ didn't want to get blocked or fouled so he switched hands, it was no show off move.

  • that was unnecessary as hell

  • I still say that was the most unnecessary move ever. He could've dunked that easily lol

  • its MJ which is half the buzz around it and he makes it look so smooth which is why its mad cool but its definitely overrated as far as level of difficulty, Bruce Bowen I must say I agree

  • yeah it is a little overrated. the switching hands wasn't really necessary

  • this is overrated, that's not even hard to do, llooks nice yes but it's SUPER EASY to pull off.

  • can someone tell me y he changed his hand? there was no need for that. if ur gona say cuz he thought the guy under the basket was gona jump then dont even reply.

  • lebron will never be jordan not even fucking iggy or tim duncan who cant play like shawn kemp or magic johnson

  • this is what u call showboating

  • he didnt need to switch hands

  • Which game was this

  • @bwareist 91 FINAL...game 2

  • I remember watching this live and falling over cheering as a kid. I was dying as a kid as to which MJ I should support during the finals. I'm from LA and love me some showtime. At the time though I was in love with the scoring guard position. Anyone in the 90s (except Knicks fans) was in love with Jordan's game.

  • one of my most favorite unneccessary jordan moves ever

  • @TyTimeIsAwesome Me too! xD

  • you know you're greatest when you coulda dunked it but decided 5 seconds later while mid air, to switch hands and lay it in.. so smooth. AND he still got the crowd going.

  • phil stopped smiling since coaching the lakers

  • wow that's the first time I saw phil with a big smile :D

  • was this before or after phil left?

  • who the hell is levingstone?

  • Did I just see Phil Jackson laugh?

  • @m417k so when someone says that his/her father could beat up your father you would declare it to be true right? what a stupid logic, always listening to someone to declare somethings true :(

  • @psychomajoreflex What a horrible comparison, Its called shock value. Of course Lebron isnt the greatest to live?...C'mon we yall kno mj is the greatest to player to touch the hardwood

  • my favorite call in sports history

  • This is the main reason why Phil Jackson doesn't give two shits about being swept in his last playoffs of his coaching career. He got to coach the greatest NBA player of all time and bear witness to something that will never been seen again. MJ>Kobe+Shaq

  • @Oneofthosefatguys i think kobe couldnt have won those championships without shaq or pau, but i guess jordan did have scottie and horace, then pippen and rodman for the last 3 rings, there was really a lot of players that contributed

  • @upyours537 Very true :)

  • @upyours537 how could it be? kobe needed a inside presence, forgot that SHAQ was the dominating player that time?

  • @annienzhu98 No one gives a fuck about dunks were here to watch Michael Jordan.

  • @Cooldudelol1231

    goddammit i never wrote that.

  • Amazing move lol and if anyone is wondering about the hand switch, Jordan didn't do it to show off or to try not to be too rough on the Lakers... if you look at 0:13 there's a Laker that put his hands up and Michael thought he was gonna try to block him so he simply switched hands, he said so himself but still amazing move

  • When I think of this moment, in my mind I can still hear Marv Albert today just as clear as it was 20 years ago when I watched this live:

"OH! A spec-ta-cular move by Michael Jordan!"

  • You know that was a good move if you see Phil Jackson smile lol

  • @j0mezzy so true. but yet again he probably saw a million on those after being with mj an kobe so it became just normal to im. but yes its nice to see him react. very rare indeed.

  • who n the hell can hate this

  • This was MJs 13th consecutive FG without a miss, and he had 28 points in a row without missing. Unreal.

  • tooo much air time in order to do that ... gravity had no affects on him

  • the starting five of the 1991 lakers dislike this

  • as amazing and impressive as this play is.... did anyone else think the hand switch was unnecessary?

  • @funnyguywithafro why asking if this move was necessary? its like eating sushi IS necessary, when all you want to eat it because you like it...

  • My theory is Jordan didn't want to make the opposing team look atrocious by dunking the ball so he therefore did a layup. Wich dnt matta cuz they still gotz PWNEDZ!!!!!!

  • how to get a highest rated comment

    -tell that lebron tavelled

-talk something about lebron and kobe

my point is this a mj video and you will put a comment about lebron

you know accept it lebron and kobe are two great players

  • 4 lakers that jordan owned disliked this video, Thanks for the comments guys

  • @gotnba Then you're about as good as Lebron.

  • @gotnba the dislikes must be kobe, lebron, wade and 5 others who will NEVER be the GREATEST as is MJ

  • @ITILII no the dislikes are from people who genuinely didn't like this video, for one reason or another which we'll never find out. Or they are just trolling. Probably the latter.

  • Back when Phil Jackson used to smile. :]

  • @InsomniacOfTV yeah, no shit. It took me a moment to remember the flower power days of phil lol.

  • @InsomniacOfTV lol, now it hurts him to smile, literaly!

  • Doesn't Count.. Lebron travelled

  • I was messing about

he's the best ball player since God made earth

    so chill out

  • @HashimLFC how he didn't travel at all

  • TRAVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @HashimLFC screw you ur retarted

  • nice move but no reason to do it nobody tried to block it

  • @psycomajoreflex it was probably the players from the old lakers why the he'll do you bring Kobe in this shit your probably some Kobe hater from Boston..

  • did KOBE just grew 3 hands? because i saw three dislikes

  • i always see phil smiling with the bulls, but i guess after winning 11 championships you kinda get bored.

  • @deanuts237 no its cause watchin jordan play was exciting , now he watches a knockoff called kobe

  • @DramaSettersTV hahahaha not bad.

  • what a legend !!

  • even phil was surprised haha

  • unncessary switch hand lol

he should've dunk it but he switch hands for nothing..no one even contest it

  • @yvesttt he thought that perkins was going to block it

  • @yvesttt are you trying to take away from this move?

  • i tried this in a game it worked but doesnt looks awesome like this

  • wow it what so amazing that phil had to smile

  • Look at the look on Phil Jacksons face like damnnnnnnnnnnnnn.............

  • this is the first time a saw a vid with a hundred likes and 0 dislikes. good job mj.

  • This video made my sneakers kill them self...He wished that he was a set of Jordans...Poor flight scorer...

  • A regular lay-up against 3 defenders was too easy for Michael so he decided switching hands would make it fair.

  • @wahpinga , when is lebron ever in the same league as michael jordan, the greatest player ever in basketball history, becos at this point in time, lebron wins....nothing lol

  • How about if when you're putting up a video of an amazing move you make sure the quality is actually high enough that it doesn't lose frames right in the middle of it?

    Just a thought...

  • @beavicide Im thinking this is a problem at your end... Quality is great for me.

  • @beavicide how bout you shut the fuck up and just watch. atleast he put the vid up

  • Phil jackson's face was priceless

  • It's it's it's....so beautiful

  • true meaning of air

  • I can watch that all day what a play

  • one of the most amazing moves i have ever seen. period.

  • that was a sick move wow ...............

  • that is why michael jordan is the greatest player ever in basketball history

  • @mmaxsters Indeed! Second only to LeBron!

  • @Wahpinga Homer! *Clapping sound* HOMER! *Clapping sound* Homer! *Clapping Sound*

  • @Wahpinga and this is the reason i now pronounce you an idiot and renounce your rights to ever talk about basketball again

  • I just looked this game. Game 1 was great, but MJ loose, even if he has a triple double. Here, he was on the 12th straight made basket and what a move. Damn !

  • That was MJs 13th straight field goal without a miss

  • Marv said this shit is spectacular. Just in case you didnt know.

  • Now if he were to dunk that, it would deffinatly go down as 1 of the top ten dunks in history and top 3 posters in history...look how high he is and how many people are under him.

  • i done do tat erreyday ins da bba quart..... im my dreams lololol

  • m.j. is the best of all time no doubt

  • @ilikewater13 ya i love hes songs.

  • Comment removed

  • i wonder if when MJ plays everything to him is in slow motion so thats why he's so good lol

  • Best lay up ever bar none!!

Actually saw this one live on tv back then!

  • @theblackstar1973 Really? I've seen way better layups and shots by Jordan than this one. I don't know if you remember the switch hand he did against Cleveland. Or even THE SHOT over Ehlo. Now those were amazing!!

  • such a classic move and commentary by Marv Alberts! I love it

  • ...does he jump, or fly? sometimes I can't tell

  • lol phil jackson on 0:11

  • he wouldn't have gotten blocked anyway, the guy barely raised his hand, he didn't need to do that

  • He didn't do it because he needed to, he did it because he could.

  • @kollykoko WELL SAID!!!

  • hahahaha it's a crazy good shot and MJ's a beast, but wtf he didnt have to do a reverse

  • i did this in a pickup game today.

granted, i'm sure it didnt look nearly as graceful, and yeah, the guy defending me wasn't exactly all-NBA, but still. it got some "oooooh!"s

  • If you don't like this play, you don't like basketball.

  • is that phil jackson as their coach?

  • @BassBoyGio are you serious?

  • @BassBoyGio

You must be pretty young. Yes, that's Phil Jackson. He won 6 championships with the Bulls before moving to LA.

  • @thejoint25 thanks!

  • the only way you can be mad at this

is because when you play ball you couldnt do it

  • Even as a Laker fan I'm glad they stood around like matadors and didn't foul him, lol.

Thanks AC and Perkins for not ruining perhaps the greatest move in basketball history.

  • Its like he had a wide open, easy, uncontested dunk... but he wanted to challenge himself and do something impossible. I miss MJ so badly, why did he have to age lol.

  • @track09 Are you blind? Perkins was moving in on his right so Jordan switched hands in mid-air. It's called protecting the ball numbnuts,.

  • @jacleu27 like Perkins was going to do anything?! Perkins didnt even jump and MJ already had the ball near the rim. Thanks for the coaching tips and your desperate attempt of sticking up for MJ somehow even though I wasn't mocking him. Oh and thanks for the name calling, how about I call you asshole since it takes so much talent to do that.

  • It doesn't matter what MJ's true intentions were, this play still stands in my eyes as the greatest basket ever. If anybody can show me anything as half as good as this, then i might be impressed.

  • pretty shit quality but still awesome cause' its hard to find o.o

  • well...whts rong in showing off?whts the point of having talent and keeping 2 urself? and + in this video it may be tht he wasn't confident bout this particular dunk, cuz of distance maybe..so he thot of getting a layup instead..

  • its still a great play regardless

  • The defender probably would've contested it if MJ had stuck with the original hand. He saw MJ starting to do something tricky so he hesitated, hence it didn't appear well defended.

  • i can do tat........ in my dreams

  • @WhoDeyWah

I would have to try a few times before i can get it right..with no one guarding me..

  • @WhoDeyWah I can do that... on 2k11 :-)

  • @WhoDeyWah you cann??? i thought that was impossible!

  • @WhoDeyWah @gotnba Then you're about as good as Lebron.

  • what was the score?

  • Amazing

  • That NIGGA switched hands, he didn't need to, he did it anyway. In his mind he was sayin' "FUCK ALL YALL..I'M GOD" "BITCH DON'T QUESTION ME" "MAGIC WHO?" "JERRY WEST MY ASS" off the backboard nothing but SHIT.

  • everyone can do it? are u crazy?do you know how HARD THAT IS? STAY IN THE AIR THEN SWITCH IBET YOU CAN'T EVEN DUNK NOR SHOOT A BASKETBALL.

  • If that was Danny Ferry he would make it even more spectacular!!

  • Yeah he would have found a way to commit a dirty foul in the process haha

  • Anybody can do that, even Vlade Divac could do it.

  • Ok. If you have a basketball hoop, please make a video of you doing that and put it on here. MJ made it look easy, but in reality, I'm sure it's not as easy.

  • ARE YOU JOKING, ID LIKE TO SEE YOU DO IT

  • I just LOVE Phil Jackson's reaction to that

  • I wish you people wouldn't hate on MJ for doing that. I mean, look at that replay. I have done that over and over again. I can only dream of doing that. That guy was INSANE

  • ok then ok in the nba playoffs and do that with those defenders in your face then say you can do it not in your little kiddy backyard

  • such a showoff he didnt even have to do that

  • Uhh he wasnt showing off. He anticipated that his defender was going to block him when he jumped in front of him so he switched hands so he could score.

  • no when Jordan thinks about dunkin nothin stops him he dunked over everybody in the league he just wanted to show flare

  • Im not arguing that he has shown off in his career. All i am saying is that he didnt switch hands on purpose. Michaael even said it himsel because he thought he was going to get blocked. You can see the defender step in front of him at 0:06.

  • @bosk128 even if he was doing it to show off a bit, he has the right to. when youve been the best in the world for years and years you deserve to have some fun

  • @bosk128 who cares if he was showing off that was badass lol

  • They do a segment from the 30's-60's called Baseball's Golden Age. The 90's- that was Basketball's Golden Age.

  • who cares WHY he did it...who knows maybe he was getting bored of dunking! it's the fact that he did it. and dispite what many of you think....you prob cant do that, not that late in the jump with full extension like that, that takes sick nasty athleticism and body control

  • That even got Phil Jackson smiling.

  • its pretty amazing, but he couldve just dunked it

  • sick.. but y did he switch hands?

  • Because he could.

Maybe he thought he might get blocked, saw it wasn't going to happen, and figured "why not."

  • he thought he was going to get blocked , so he switvched

  • He switched hands simply because he can..

  • it looked to me like he was going to dunk it and probably thought he wasn't going to make it.

  • If he missed that he would be the biggest dickhead in the world

  • Haha, had no one on him, he didn't have to switch. Jordan nut riders will always defend him on this shot. Jordan can do no wrong.

  • man i wish i coudve seen jordan played in the building.

  • If you want to see "spec-tac-ular", check out Kobe's shot over DPoY Dwight Howard in Game 5. That was 50x the shot this thing was.

  • That was one of your better uncontested layups. Potential defenders AC Green and Sam Perkins were in the general vicinity of the shot.

This layup was #41 on the list of "60 Greatest NBA Playoff Moments". I'd say the layup was slightly overrated.

  • thats why he switched hands...they were about to jump, but stopped so he thought they would contest, and it is WAY better than kobe's double clutch shit against D-12...wtf are smoking, this is Athletism from history's best basketball player EVER. Stop hating.

  • Hating? You're an idiot.

I can do Jordan's move... that was nothing. Kobe's was far more difficult, and his shot was actually contested by a guy who plays pretty good defense.

  • YOU can do that? If you can get your head at that level of the rim, switch hands in the middle of the air, AND manage to get it in off the glass, then you have my respect. Just about anyone could do kobe's move from yesterday...this is a different story.

  • wrong

  • perhaps not anyone can do kobe's move, but Im positive As HELL that YOU, or anyone i possibly know SWITCH HANDS IN THE AIR, AND MANAGE TO BANK IT IT!

  • Not to take anything from Jordan, seeing as he did it under these circumstances, but if i was 6'6" and had "the best hands" as Phil Jackson describes, I could do this no problem. But since im only 5'11" and can only grab rim you might be right.

  • Amazing! They should have this "Where Amazing Happens."

  • I totally agree with you. They should have a "Where Will Amazing Happen This Year?" commercial showing MJ doing the switch. That would be so awesome.

  • They did.

  • yea he dint have to do that lol he had a free shot with his right hand..

  • nope he switched hands because hes so great he can do every shot and didnt know what hand to use :)

  • MJ dios todo poderoso.
