Best win cue bar none. I still have vivid memories of watching this program with my late mother and grandmother. Catch 21 is at best, a very faint hybrid copy of this magnificent game. Long live Gambit, long live Wink!
MGM owns the rights to the HQ shows now I think. I think King World/CBS Paramount has the rights to Heatter's solo shows(Heatter's company was hired by Orion to produce the 1987 High Rollers revival)
If GSN can air multiple versions of "Password", "Pyramid" and "Card Sharks", surely they could air "Gambit" and "Catch 21" back to back. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
I'd much rather watch the original over the current revival anyway, IMHO.
I don't think they're missing at all. Gambit aired in the late 70s in repeats, and a knowledgeable source states that the tapes more than likely are still in existence with the rest of the Heatter-Quigley products.
@blanquepage According to a post on another thread regarding this episode of "Gambit", Wink Martindale himself has claimed the master tapes do exist but are locked in a vault. The post also says there are other sources who say that many of them have deteriorated beyond broadcast quality and that the show can't air anyway because Marvel Comics now owns the name.
i'll tell u, i'm surprised they didn't get excited the moment they saw the 6, (and i mean at that moment, (because you'd think they would've realized that they had 21 when they looked at it. (and i don't mean when the board started flashing "21")
One of my favorite game shows growing up...still brings back memories when watching these videos. Thanks for the memories.....
