Not only were the floodwalls built along the drainage canals phoney "stage props", never INTENDED to hold back water, but the Corps "attempt to stop the flooding "was equally PHONEY,DONE FOR SHOW.Plugging the mouths of the canals was the only quick and effective approach. It could have been done in time to prevent most flooding west of the Industrial Canal. They KNEW that that FARCE of helicoptering in sandbags would never accomplish anything useful in time to stop ANY flooding.
"We The People" was to be a Republic, not a CORPORATION of the rich, elitist.
I applaud Harry for his bold 'activist' struggles, and others like Sandy Rosenthal of Levees.org. Your hard work, to enlighten the general public of what may happen as a result of Hurricanes, as oppose to man made failures, and the obvious lack of caring, to admit to the results of such, and to try and make amends.

It may ultimately be impossible to get big business to behave morally and with honor unless the penalty for bad behavior is high enough to off set the profit from it.
Its always been time to keep the disaster of Katrina in the limelight. The horror of the inept Army Corp of Engineers, is where things are screwed up. If the Netherlands can keep their people safe why isn't the US government.
Thanks Harry. Your Huff Stuff literally saved my life, really. There was No Where Else where the facts of the Federal Flood were getting aired on a National scale. Ah, such good times as a commenter, flaying trolls, learning to play 'kick the neocon' --and the Nolafugees!
But seriously, I learned a hell of a lot from you and the other commenters on those posts. Yet now you've added even more with 'The Big Uneasy'.
As a New Orleanian, I sure do appreciate Harry trying to straighten out this ongoing misunderstanding about why 1,600+ people died and we lost all that stuff. It isn't fair that our government (the USACE) has been conducting a PR campaign funded by tax payers to cause outsiders to believe that our losses and deaths were our fault.
I was born and raised in N.O., La.,,,and as I remember my youth, there has always been a conflict between locals and the Corp. of Engineers,,,The Corp. is always perceived to be correct and the locals in error,,,and it is just the opposite,,,and the same thing has happened with the oil spill,,,It's really a shame,,,
NOLA needs all the friends and allies possible! Thanks so much, Mr. Shearer, for being one of the best. The federal flood of 2005 was NOT a natural disaster. It was a manmade one--an engineering disaster that continues to live on.
It's great all efforts made by LeveesOrg to let the truth out!... Thank you to you Mr Harry Shearer for all you do for the Katrina victims, and for the people of new Orleans!
Is there a way for the movie "The big uneasy" to be watched by people from abroad? Anyone can tell me?
Everyone is America needs to hear this information. The major media is simply too intimidated and controlled to talk about the real truth! Where is the follow up, where is the accountability?
HARRY SHEARER: After five years I despaired of the national news media acknowledging the story of why New Orleans flooded in 2005....
Mr. Shearer despaired over the misdiagnosis of why the N.O. region flooded. It was civil engineering failure, not a bad storm, not a 'city below seal level.'
Harry is one of my heroes. Saw him at the screening of "The Big Uneasy" in NOLA and loved this documentary. As a Calif. tourist stuck in the Superdome during the levee failures and Katrina his story was quite poignant for me. Give em hell, Harry!

Great work, Mr. Shearer. Keep talking!

I will watch this time and again. I'm middle class and only 50% recovered so this touches me deeply.

Harry Shearer is a breath of fresh air amidst the stench of national misreporting.

I love Harry's columns in Huffington Post, especially when he corrects ignorant comments from ill informed people. I wish more writers would do that.

Harry, like the pro he is, has observed that the national media has created a Template for the New Orleans Flood that is devoid of the truth.
