A fantasy of mine is to go to the beach and watch the sunset with a special girl while we listen to this song, and she lays her head on my shoulder. I just love the feeling of this song.
Wolfsky9 - I've posted comments like yours hundreds of times on many sites. Brian had a unique gift (other than music) of knowing how most people felt and you can hear and feel his emotions when he sings. Young people can't relate to this because Brian was a romantic, even if a bit melancholy. True romance went down the toilet as the '60s ended and has never really recovered. Songwriters wrote "songs", not just words & music, which today's artists write and record. There is a difference.
@aznmusica well I am assuming you might be young (maybe I am wrong) but as I got older I started to really enjoy slower music.........kind of like a musical lobotomy to smooth out the stresses of the day
I adore this song! It's so calm, quiet, dreamy, warm... like a summer evening at sea. maj7 chords usually create this unique mood. I so love the bridge, the passage where it changes from Bm to Dm!
Like "The Surfer Moon" it's from the Surfer Girl album. Many people hark on about how great albums like Pet Sounds, Sunflower and Surfs Up were, and they're right. However some people are just not aware of how good some of the earlier albums were. Your summer dream is in my top 5 and as an Englishman I'm saying that the Beach Boys were the best the States ever produced. The only true rivals to the Beatles.
This is the song I played for my Dad, summer of '63. I was so in love with this masterpiece, I knew then that this was genius beyond anything we had seen yet in American Rock music. My Dad's remark: " if he can write, sing, and produce and arrange this, his future is unlimited. This song is really something." He knew. I knew. Summer, 1963, our world was so different. Brian, Graci Forever. Wolfsky9
Brian Wilson showing his real, pure talent as a singer. A guy in the studio recording a simplistic, yet sophisticated track without the grandiose production the drugs, insecurities and insanity.
@cadmaster101 This album established Wilson as a top-notched singer-songwriter and budding top-tier producer and arranger. It took the impact of the Beatles to take it to the next level.
One of the few BBs songs without background harmonies... just Brian double tracking himself. Nice lyrics by his old college roommate, Bob Norberg ( Norman ).
I always loved this song and have it on an original Surfer Girl album which is one of the most valuable Beach Boy albums. I have all the albums...love to hear from everyone to what they think the value is of all the original Beach Boy albums...just as a bit of fun. (all the albums together...about 45 of them excluding the re issues and mangled up compilations)
This is truly, Brian's greatest "Hidden classic"; what a voice this man had. This, and, " Keep an Eye On summer" are 2 songs they never did in concert, and I so wish they had. Young People, you will never hear the likes of this again. Wolfsky9
