  • I don't know why, it's just me, but listening to this, I somehow understand why Art Garfunkel drove Paul Simon crazy.

  • @JackKids18964 disgrace *

  • I don't think there has never been another era, when the songs that were written, at the time, are immortal. My kids love them and it's 40 years later! I am so glad I grew up with this music. You can't beat it. :)

  • HARRY KALAS!!!!

  • @guyNbluejeans Get out of this place then. Black edyed peas only made 1 good song and it isn`t Boom Boom Pow. This is Alot better then ANY black eyed peas songs.

  • Timeless classic.

  • I wish I had been born in the time when the songs that were listened to, day by day throughout every window in the streets, were the songs such as this one. Although sadly it seems those times have passed.

  • como no, aqualung1989, grande.

  • When my generation grows up, marries, and has kids, the parents will probably play junk like Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Usher, and T-Pain for their kids in the car, saying "This is what I grew up listening to!"

I will play this for mine.

  • @Violetta21TV Nah...crap like those groups will be forgotten. Songs like this are timeless!

  • @Violetta21TV - Amen.

  • @Violetta21TV

    that's what my mum did...

  • the greatest feel good song EVER, i have done securrity at a concert for simon and garfunkle it was a moment in life i will never forget and will tell my kids and grandchildren it was like seeing a diamond in a pile of coal

  • i love this song my ex husband used to sing it to me and i always think about him when i hear this song because he has always been there for me.

  • YES! original version! I hate all those stupid lame covers! they should delete them or at least add history of in the title!

  • tang ina wla nmn lyrics! >_<

  • so beautiful. No cover beats this!

  • we all need to listen to these lyrics. if we all did, (and i'm the biggest offender) the world would be a better place.

  • Let this song belong just to those, who understand both lyrics and melody.

  • 9 users don't have a bridge over troubled water.

  • This is a beautiful song. I would like it played at my fureral, people to remember me this. It's the type of person I try to be. I would like my friends, family to remember me this way. Remimds me of my family, close friends in my life who have stood by me. One of the most meaniful, beautiful songs every released.

  • 9 people should be beaten in the head with a shovel!!! How can anyone not like this song...??? I really dont understand it!

  • .. i like it when anthony callea sang this song .. he introduced this song to me .. he is a contestant of australian idol .. pls, do watch his version of this song ..

  • i really dont like all the other versions of this song. Other than Johnny Cash :)

  • One of the few ones which is not live

  • thiz song makez me wanna cryz=-(

  • Original mix, indeed. Roy Halee in the cockpit of Columbia´s 70th street console. No equalizers, only pans and compressors. So, he had to know what he was doing. Also true for S & G.

  • love this song and im a teenager

  • Epic :)

  • S&G are awsome

    They might be hippies

    but they can sing

  • i love Simon & Garfunkel.... it should be forbidden to make covers....and remixes..... in my view is the original better than any other versions......love it!!

  • My dad's favorite song which I will never forget. Love you, Dad.

  • i love this song forever and ever it inspired me a lot

  • Even the word classic does not do this masterpiece justice.Better than brilliant.

  • The greatest song ever written,no one sings this like Art and i will never, ever tire of listening to it,Thank you for posting !!!!

  • clay aiken i think did it better but this is still amazing.

  • Most beautiful song ever. But I hope no one leaves nasty comments on such a classic beautiful song.

  • @blainegirl97 Write a song about solace, then - bang! You have a #1 hit.

    God parody is coming up.

  • @SlimeTron5000 Mkay. Good luck on the God parody. I'll be watching. Just like him. ;) Haha

  • Uhm.. this song was playd in the memorial of a classmate of mine.

it's a really beautiful song and it makes me think of her.

  • I can't find better song than this by now

  • One of my all time favorites!!!

  • my whole life was depressing, hurtful, and very sad. but the only happy time in my life was when i was like 3 and my Daddy would sing this to me. i wish he still loved me like he loves his girlfriend`s boys...but here i am 10 years later and still am the same sad girl... life is a mystery. but every time i hear this song, i feel loved. thank you for putting this on youtube in great quality. great song!

  • @SecksiiMii That,s a pretty sad comment. Hang in there, life gets better!

  • @SecksiiMii You're only 13. I'm saying this as someone who wishes desperately he could go back and do his his teen years over again. You got your whole life ahead of you. It won't be for at least a decade until you have full perspective. Hang tough

  • @redsoxrok3 thank you for the advice :) i plan to not let my past affect my future

  • I don't know who of the two is singing this. It doesn't matter this much. I envy him for such a beautiful and clear voice. This song is pure beautiful.

  • I was at a funeral today, the last song they played was this...

I allways thought that this was one of the sengs i have considred to have on my own funeral, i cryied so hard.

I am crying at this very moment too.

  • muiiiiiiiiiiiiiito lindo

  • Just Listen! you

  • Art Garfunkel has undeniable the best voice in the world...

  • @TheLordHodne I disagree. All-time...It's Marvin Gaye without a doubt. Still living....I don't know. Maybe Whitney Houston if she still has it. Or Al Green...I don't know, but not Art Garfunkel. By the way...this is best song ever.

  • @TheLordHodne Oh...Christina Aguleria. Her voice is amazing.

  • @KrfNYC2

Fine then. But Art is defiantly on the top 10 male list

  • @TheLordHodne Living...maybe. All-time, I still don't know. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Al Green, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, David Ruffin, Donny Hathaway...that's nine off the top of my head who I think are better than Art. I'm sure I could think of a few more. Art is great though and his performance on this song is beyond epic.

  • @KrfNYC2

yeah... I'm not gonne have a go at you or your list, but I really hope( and think) this isn't the only song you have listen by Art G. He has so incrediably many wonderful songs, and not one of them are anywhere a 'Ok ' If you know what I mean ;) They are so good.

Yours are so old, but that probably says that you know what you're talking about :)

  • @TheLordHodne I have heard a lot of Simon and Garfunkle songs. But if you have any suggestions that display great vocals by Art...I'd be more than happy to give them a listen. And the guys on my list aren't that old in comparision to Art. Gaye, Green and Wonder were all in their prime shortly after Simon and Garfunkle were. And Vandross didn't make it real big until the 80's.

  • very good it makes me thoughtful

  • it reminds me of my grandmom

  • Strange thing. I´ve heard this song so many times, and now, it seems to be the first one. New sense, new story. Sail on by....... every one!!!

  • oh my gosh i can play this on piano

  • This is a song we'r singing in chorus for a song, and everyone gets touchy.

  • THIS SONG KICKS ASS.

  • my mom wants this song played at her funeral.

  • so touching.............

  • Possibly my favorite song...It's one of those works of art that you can't describe.

  • @KrfNYC2 i havent reach this age, but then when ever i hear this type of song, it gives me different kind of feeling, and i love it :)

  • @GothicaKenny How wonderful.

  • Avoid weddings and you will not sail " over troubled water", ha,ha!!!!

  • I love this song...when i have a wedding this is going to be my wedding song!

  • played this one at my Dad's funeral last month.. I thought at the time I would never be able to listen to it again but to my dis belief it actually brings me comfort to hear it now..

  • @moviegoer167

I'm sorry about your Dad. What a beautiful song to lay him to rest, though. God bless and take care:)

  • @moviegoer167 you totally disrespected your father by playing this GUTTER TRASH music. People who do not understand music really piss me off. Die.

  • @drhitler Oh is that right? did my dad come to you and tell you this himself? How he was disrespected for a song that he liked form a group that he liked? quite frankly I don't feel to offended by a comment like that coming from someone who calls himself drhitler. And why are you here listening to this "Gutter trash?" making comments about it? do you just enjoy trolling around? go be a little boy somewhere else fool.

  • @moviegoer167

Don't listen to an absolute piece of trailer trash that dr.hitler so obviously is. My father was a classically trained pianist and outstanding singer. He passed away in 1994 and this was always one of his fav. songs of all-time. I remember him singing it in a duet with another performer in church back in the early 70's. Like you, I choose to remember my Dad through this gorgeous song.

  • @jlmusicfan57 Thank you for your comment, I take people like him with a grain of salt, so no worries, I find the ignorance displayed in people who make comments like that rather comical actually. Your father sounds like he was a very distinguished man, as do you. And I too see absolutely nothing wrong with how our fathers were both laid to rest to this amazing song either. take care.

  • @moviegoer167 this was played at my uncle marks funeral <3

  • @maam31 It is a good song for a sad occasion, I am sorry for your loss

  • @moviegoer167 Thanks, you too...been 5years since he killed him self as of jan 15

  • @moviegoer167 rip

  • @moviegoer167 its a very beautiful song, now your papa is resting easy :)

  • @EmptySun Thank you friend... I hope he is.. After all the pain he went through, he deserves it.

  • @moviegoer167 I Am Sorry For Your Loss. It is A sad song. But sometimes it cheers you up. Again i am sorry for your loss. :)

  • one of the best ever

  • SONJIA LANELLE PARKER ....This song

reminds me of you and our time togeather more than any other. How I wish

    I could find you!

    ROGER C MOSS

  • This song is so beautiful

  • It was far from amazing. It was good and it saved them after that total failure last week, but amazing is just too much to call it.

  • Thx, but no thx

  • very good song

  • Played on my grandma's funeral..

Everytime I hear this song it just makes me cry, it's so beautiful.. I miss her so much :(

  • this is song is powerful! yeah it brings it all back..

  • Andréa Bochelli [Nem sei se se escreve assim], fez a performance desse som no Grammy - Very tombo - Very Luxo - Very Escandalo

  • Such a beautiful song! The second chorus is really amazing, it almost made me cry the first time I heard it!

  • ... he was my bridge, I tried to be his bridge too...

  • this song makes me cry

  • Thank god for that original version I am so sick of crappy covers by other people and these annoying modern day singers!!

  • Me too! Just can't top the original.

  • @HackneyShark Why would anybody bother to even try? This song is a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Too right.

  • Stevie wonder just did a remake for the Haiti telethon concert recently as well.

  • Well, Stevie I can handle. He's had enough people covering his songs, so why not cover someone else's for a change?

  • @83Brokenwings i agree!

  • @83Brokenwings AMEN!

  • @83Brokenwings Thank you for pointing out that this is the original. There are so many versions, I had no idea who did the original before you said!

  • @83Brokenwings YES!!!

  • One minor little detail, Art Garfunkel is alive and well and they've had occasional reunions since the break up.

  • @ bobcat188 be quiet

  • GARFUNKEL LIVES

  • This is both oh so incredibly beautiful and inspirational :)

  • Poignant and touching,

  • this is such a beautiful song its breathtaking it a song that is sang straight from the heart.

  • Beautiful really :)

  • The lyrics of this song say a lot about what real love and friendship should be!!! An absolute MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!! The music and lyrics of Paul Simon, the great voice of Art Garfunkel, and the OUTSTANDING piano of Larry Knetchel (RIP, Larry!!!). The best song they ever recorded!!!!!!

  • best

  • at 2:28, is that a msn blip? lol

  • No it's the song...

  • is that an msn blip at 2:28?

  • very nice

  • Perfect!!!

  • AWESOME!!!! :D

  • The greatest song ever written, and that includes EVERYTHING !!! R.i.p. Larry

  • Thank you aqualung for adding this on.

  • masterpiece!

  • I like the images of a bridge over troubled water its seem like very poetic

  • best song of all time.

  • I don't know why, it's just me, but listening to this, I somehow understand why Art Garfunkel drove Paul Simon crazy.

  • I always thought it was because he knew that Artie had a better voice than he did and that he was so dramatic. That's what probably did Paul in. He probably got tired or jealous of Artie's talent to sing and sing well. Not that Paul isn't a great singer and performer himself.

  • @wildpianoman16 Paul wrote this song for Art to sing. Then after its phenomenal success (they made over 20 million dollars off this song alone - and that was in 1969!!!!) , he regretted "giving it away." He was jealous every time they sung it on stage because Art got the credit for it. That is what eventually broke them up.

  • @computerman290, Thanks for the bit of info. 20 million dollars--That's mind-bending, especially for the year 1969. I'm trying to become a songwriter and performer in my own right. I'm a composition and technology major currently and I'm really loving it. I keep wondering if my songs could be hits like this or at least performed more often. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel inspired me into writing my own stuff.

  • @wildpianoman16 I may be wrong about the amount, but I do know that is was a HUGE amount of money!!! If these guys provided you inspiration to start writing, you should be off to a good start. Because of the simply FANTASTIC lyrics, this song would have been perfect with just Art's voice and a piano!!!!!! Check out some songwriters from the 70's. That was a decade when lyrics were meaningful and heartfelt, and musical talent was abundant!!! More so than the following three decades anyway!!

  • They broke up, actually, over Garfunkle getting bought out by Simon, and Garfunkle's resulting financial instability. I love this song, because (beyond it's obvious beauty and poignant message) all of the royalties go to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, in memorandum of, I believe, a friend's child who had gotten cancer.

  • Yeah. I for the most part agree that the lyrics were less thoughtful and the music was of significantly less quality. Although, I do enjoy '80's music too. I am actually becoming a little more 'poppy', not like today's r&b but more like techno and ' 80's music. It depends on what mood I'm in when I write but sometimes I even write easy listening stuff or broadway stuff like Rogers and Hammerstein. Art released an album of easy listening in 2007 which I was hugely influenced by. I'm like a sponge

  • No that is not why they broke up. That's false.

  • @youvebeenthunderstru It is not false! Maybe it wasn't THE reason, but it was a big contributing factor in their parting.

  • "Sail on Silver Girl, sail on by... Your time has come to shine... All your dreams are on their way... see how they shine... If you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind... Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind..."

Magnificent... The way friendship always should be... :)

  • A great testament to sacrificial love. This is one of those songs that very nearly epitomizes what I want to be able to provide for my wife (fiancee at the moment).

  • Just found out about Larry Knechtel tonight :(................. his memory will live on through this classic song. Excellent piano work.

  • I love it

  • Larry Knetchel, did the piano on this and hundreds of othe songs. Larry...died yesterday of a Heart attack. Google him and see all of the music he created. He was one of Duane Eddys Rebels, he was a member of the group "Bread" and he was a member of "The Wrecking Crew" who recorded all of the music that Phil Spector took credit for.

  • i sure hope this stays up!!!!

    it's in mah stream

i'm the only livin' boy in teXas

  • my God what a good song and lyrics

  • soim and garfunkel just have something in their voice that makes them unique! the lyrics are beautiful and the bring it so beautiful! can you imagine, i'm a die hard metalfan and i get tears in my eyes from this song XD

  • well i can understand it =), the way they mix their voices is absolutely beautiful

  • @lindarctica i totaly am with you... i got brought up on this stuff but still listen to hard rock xD xx

  • @lindarctica I'm a Metalhead too bro. I feel the same way. It gave me chills.

  • Very beautiful...luv it!!!

  • I love this song. Very true to the heart. It proves you don't need guitars, keyboards, drums etc, to have an effective song!

  • Well, "keyboards", the song does have a piano.

  • I know the song has a piano. What i meant was songs don't always need a lot of instruments playing together on a record, ie keyboards including drums, guitars etc.

Many a good record just needs one instrument, a piano to produce a melancholy sound!!
