Is there any other way to subdivide a mesh in addition to hyperNURBS and knife tool? Something like a grid knife tool or a subdivide fuction when you create a simple object (cube, torus)......and thanks, your tutorial already helped me a lot!
At 5:05 when I go to extrude inner I'm having a problem that it applies the rule to the top left square of the model as well around the entire selection. I have the max angle set to 90*. Can anyone help?
@RaGamingUK I'll have more tutorials coming soon. I have to get a new mic. As far as plugins, the ones I use the most are xplode, lumen, CD Character Tools, TFD, ReeperX, edgesweep, and the realflow plugin.
@ShepperdOneill Basically there are multiple lines (that do not refer to any specific points on the object) call them gradient lines i suppose as they show the gradient (curves) of the object. I have noticed they are only view able when the object is under the influence of the "hyper nurb", is there any way to turn them off as they are hard to differentiate between the polygon lines
@LoneWolfSpike Mines doing same.. so i cannot make the rear and front part of the case thing. it just messes up. i need to select the grid from which the segment lines create. and it does not appar after I make it an editable poly
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm a Blender user, but you've described the tools and their functions in such a clear way that it'll make it easier to replicate the process in Blender. ::thumbs up::
well took me a while and almost posted a question about how you did the corners at 7:05 but i looked at your maximum angle for "extrude inner" & "extrude" when i noticed it was different lol. didnt know i needed to set them to 115
hy thanks for the tutorial, but at 7:29 when i do the extrude inner and the extrude i can't do that, please help me, when i do it is like horns are growing..sorry for my english
Yes I'm having problems with The making the ring around it part(7:30) The corners of the poly keep trying to make their own shape when I inner extrude and then extrude. any ideas?
@ShepperdOneill ohhhh that makes sense thank you so much man. I was trying to do this at 2 this morning and being tired didn't help me very much. Thanks again.
@Jokerofskyarchy You're welcome... and be aware that you may need to do the same thing with the extrude tool as well. Its angle is set to 89° as well by default.
What your tutorial does well that 90% of other tutorials don't do well is you keep the pace and flow good and moving. You don't overexplain the obvious, don't studder have awkward pauses or spend time explaining things that everyone sees just by looking at what you're doing. Thank you for talking like a normal person and not a socially inept computer nerd and keeping the pace good as opposed to a 30 minute tutorial on how to construct a simple model.
Thanx Shepperd. I followed every tutorial you made and now I am able to create things pretty much independently. Thank you! :)
One small thing that I cannot figure out: When I switch to any other view like the front view or the side view, all the objects are only seen in wireframe. In 3D view the object is solid. It's not a big problem at all but I just want to know how to switch from wireframe so I can see the solid object. Thank you
AMAZING!!! By far THE best C4D tutorial I've seen yet, and I'm eager to see the other parts (already downloading).
The absolute greatest part of the tutorial is how you go into the different tools, which we can go on to apply to other models. I know that personally, I now know how to use these various methods and techniques and tools for other applications.
Anyhow, THANK YOU! You have a serious knack for this. Maybe you can create a total training collection and sell it for cheap enough ;)
Hi! me again. Let me see if I can rephrase that. When I do the loop select, it selects completely around the object, but when I do an inner extrude, the outside corners come in (now like a large rectangle. The problem with this is that the corners are not extruded in the final extrusion. My object is not contained in a "box" as yours is on the video. Mine shows outlines of the actual object, and is not contained in a box like yours. Any ideas? BTW... I am on Mac, are you on PC?
Hello my friend! Thank you for your excellent tutorial. I worked and worked and worked with it and got my little iPod looking just like yours until the end. When I tried to do the Inner Extrude (to make it look like it had a back plate and front plate, I noticed that my object is not contained in a wire "box" like yours. So what happens is that the inner extrude starts from the inside of the corners, leaving the final extrusion with corners that are not "countersunk". Does this make sense?
Great video! I'm also new to C4D, and haven't done much 3D before.
I have one problem though, at appr. 3:27 when scaling those points upwards, I can't scale like you show on this video. I get 4 additional points wich doesn't scale as high as I would like. I get the same problem with it when I scale those in Y -axis. Can you help? Do I have some display options different from you or why does it do that?
Thank you so much for doing this 'polygon' modeling tutorial.
I can never seem to find a good, well explained video of step-by-step instruction for Cinema 4D. I have been struggling with polygon and Hypernurbs modeling for a while.
Please do more simple, common items. [example: a page that has some thickness and some natural looking curling. No page sits flat on a table]
in fact, my 14 yr old son is the biggest fan of your movies... and he actually sucks in every detailed bit of info you give just by watching the movie once... what a miracle! I've learned the bits I know with Infini-D 15 years ago and I have to see your movies three times to grasp everything ;-)

You have to change the shading for each view. By default, the shading for the front, side, top and rear views are set to wireframe.
You can change it by clicking on "display" and choosing the mode you want to use.

in the extrude inner options menu (right, under the objects) you have the "maximum angle" option. set it to 90* or more.
and disable isoline.
it will work

The simplest 3D software ive used is Cinema 4D. It was what I first started with, and still use it today for work.
There are other more simpler (and free) 3D packages like Blender and Sketchup, but ive never used them before.
