  • if you want a truly devilish sound use the crunch channel and switch your emg 81 and 85 around and use the 85 for the bridge

  • that kinda sonds like unholy confessions

  • i love the wetsuit its like diving into tone.

  • Im gona sounds like a fool, but what are the greenbacks? I originally was getting a Cobra until I deicded to get a 6505+ and save some money. But im not sure what cab to get for my style.

  • @nellings6 - Greenbacks are made by Celestion, very tight and focused sound compared to the popular V30s. I LOVE them.

  • what are your settings?

  • hey when ur on the lead channel are you just using the mxr and the sd-1?

  • @xdonnix - and M13 for delay and reverb.

  • @drummerboy7816 is the mxr in the loop of the amp or in front, and are you boosting mids?

  • How does the Framus sound through the Mesa cab?

Hmm. Can't decide between this, and the new black Powerball II.

I currently use an ENGL Fireball 100, which sounds awesome. But I need more versatility.

  • @adil2552 - Not very good - thin and brittle. IMO, the Framus sounds best through a front-loaded cab with greenbacks. I've also heard it through P50Es and they sound really awesome as well. The Cobra is going to sound very different then the fireball, a lot more raw, organic, dynamic, but also unforviging in compairison. Try one before you buy it!

  • @drummerboy7816 Yeah definitely, I plugged my Cobra into my other guitarists new mesa os 4x12, tried eqing it, and promptly unplugged it. Maybe I'll try it again when the speakers are more broken in, but I would never buy one for this head.

  • SCHECTER!!!!! DYAAAAH!!

Also, I was thinkin of buying either a Framus or Engl. I'm lookin for a dark distortion, kinda of like Job For A Cowboy's Ruination and Genesis, soaring leads like Decrepit Birth, and cleans like Agalloch. iono though, since I dont have a chance to play any high end amps anytime soon, I cant try them out. Have any recommendations?

  • @Azria032 - Both amps would work for the type of sounds you are going for; however, if your looking for a darker distortion, I feel the Engl SE may be a better choice, just my thought.

  • I still don't know what kind of head you have man and how much?

  • @skate4free7 - this is a Framus Cobra - costs around 1,500

  • @drummerboy7816

1,500 just the head whitout cab?

  • why are you wearing a wetsuit?

  • @Freemasonry - Was waiting for a buddy to go surfin', thought I'd record something while I waited.

  • you fucking rich motherfucker

  • good video man! good playing and really like your tone.

  • im thinking of getting the dragon!! and using and m13 to run it what are these like in real life not over camera????fizzy??? clear??? please help me out cheers.

  • @joedywoolsey - I'm not very sure about the Dragon, since I never actually played one, but from what I've heard, the Dragon is looser sounding overall (clean & distortion). You HAVE TO bias your Framus to about 35ma to rid the fizz at lower volumes... I did that and it was a different beast. The Cobra has the most aggressive & tight yet clear distortion I've heard.

  • Thanks for the video, sounds great. I just got a cobra without footswitch and a line 6 m13 and I would like to control the amp channels through the line 6 m13. Can you explain me all the wiring you make (I don't know anything about midi).

    Thank you in advance.

    Emmanuel.

  • It's pretty simple, hook a midi cable from the midi out of the M13 to the midi in of the Cobra. Then in your settings mode on the M13, just switch to "latch scene" mode, then go the scene selector, select a scene, and hit the midi store button on the back of the Cobra. Now every time you select that scene, it will jump to the channel that you had when you hit the store button. Good luck!

  • I'll try as soon as I've got free time. Thank you very much for your reply.

  • Exuse me to disturb you again but I didn't succeed. I have selected a scene, choosen a channel in front of the amp, pushed midi store button 1 and several times (the led doesn't light on), saved the changing on the scene, & when I come back to this scene (from another channel of the amp), channel doesn't change. Maybe I make something wrong but I don't know what (I have connected the m13 in the amp's effect loop or between the amp & guitar). Please help me again.

    Thanks.

  • Hmm.. i'm not sure then.. did you connect a midi cable? It doesn't matter how the audio cables are hooked, only the midi cable.

  • I will check with another cable ASAP. I tried again and 2 times the led of the cobra's midi lights on but I don't how. I'll keep you in touch. Thank you anyway fro your help.

  • what are you playing at 1:51 please ?? sound great !!

  • Thanks! That's just something I came up with.

  • Were you using a Line 6 M13 in the loop? If so how well does it work with the Cobra? The Cobra loop in line level and the M13 is instrument level. Also the Cobra loop is Parallel. Do you have the mix all the way up on the delay on your M13? I appreciate the info. I have a Cobra coming soon and I use an M13.

    Thanks,

    JC Holleran

  • I'm actually using the 4 cable method with the Line 6 M13. Mix knob on my Framus is all the way up, conservative levels on the M13. Also using the midi on the M13 to control the channels on the Framus. Have fun with the set-up, it's awesome!

  • Thanks for the reply. Do you notice a difference when the M13 is bypassed verses not having anything in the Cobra Loop?

  • There is a little loss in volume with the M13 which is prob attributed to the loop being parallel vs serial, but it's not a big deal. Also, I get a minor ground hum using the 4 cable method that I have not figured out how to get rid of. Other then that, it's great.

  • Thanks for the info. When I use the M13 in the 4 cable method I got the ground loop hum as well. I found a way to get rid of it. It isn't the cheapest but it works great. I got a Lehle Little Dual A/B switching pedal. If you run the cable that goes to the input of your amp into the isolated side of the Lehle it has a ground switch you can toggle. I also tried the Radial Engineering one like it to and it worked too but there was some signal loss with it. The Lehle retains your original signal.

  • interesting, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

  • what speaker are better for the cobra ? greenback or V30 ? because I play on a framus cab 2*12 with V30 and he sound bad as you're cobra.

    sorry for my english

  • what speaker are better for the cobra ? greenback or V30 ? because I play on a framus cab 2*12 with V30 and he sound bad as you're cobra.

    sorry for my english

  • I would strongly recommend the matching cab for the cobra or any front loaded cabs with greenbacks or similar speakers. good luck!

  • some of the harmony central reviews said that Framus amps sound great, as yours obviously does, but they might as well be made of glass. Have you had any problems with yours? Your tone is excellent, even through a Youtube video being played through my little macbook speakers. :D

  • Haha, thanks =).

the built construction is my only complaint for the amp.. having owned engls and rectifiers, the Cobra for sure pales in comparison. Tolex is thinner, general fitting of the pieces seems a tad bit looser. However, no problems with the actual amp itself yet. *knocks on wood.

  • I think is says you were using a Line 6 M13 in this clip. Is so how does the loop work with it being that the m13 is instrument level and the Cobra loop is Line Level.

  • Any reason your wearing a diver suit? HAHAHA. Seriously though I'm thinking of getting this amp. Should I?

  • Haha, it's actually for surfing, I was waiting for my friend to get ready and just decided to record something =)

I would strongly recommend getting this amp any day! It's my favorite amp by a long shot.

  • COOL man! Thanks for your comment back.

I am seriously considering this amp. It's directly up my alley so I'm thinking on it. Gotta get the cash though, as you know, they ain't cheap.

  • poor playin

  • did you have to install emgs on that guitar?

  • yep.

  • worth it cuz i wana put some in my esp ltd h-1000

  • it should have them stock shouldnt it?

  • not all of them its kindu stupid some have shitty pickups like mine some have emg's and some have semour duncans

  • The C-1 Hellraiser is similar to my guitar but with EMGs stock, look into those!

  • then it isnt a 1000 ESP 1000's all have Duncans or emg if yours doesnt have em its probably a cheaper model or if you bought it used the guy you bought it from installed shitty pickups on it and took out the emg's/duncans to put them in another gutiar.

  • what tubes are you using dude?

  • A brand new Cobra head, never played, will run you $4,248. There is a pricelist on Framus' website listing the prices for all their products if you're interested.

  • this or an engl fireball e635?????

  • This.

  • how much are framus cobras? ive lookied all over the web.. where can i get one? im tired of my 6505 haha

  • You can get it used for $1200-1500 depending on condition. New I'm not sure.

  • what are your settings man killer tone!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks man! Rhythm channel is something like: bass 11oc, mids 11oc, treb 12, pres 7oc, gain 1oc, channel volume 2oc. Lead channel is similar but make mids 2oc, and treb 11oc. Both channel deep is at 10oc. The biggest contribution factor to my tone is my Lord of Chaos modded SD-1. You should check it out, not sure if he still makes em tho.

  • would you recommend greanbacks for a 5150/6505 over V30's?

  • Never tried 5150 with greenbacks so can't comment on that; however, greenbacks are generally more focused while V30s are more scooped, so it depends on what ur after.

  • V30's scooped?

V30's have a huge mid spike lol.

  • v30s are not scooped at all. Anyway break up at low volumes but they are more suited for class A classic rock sounds for me. Check out eminance man or wars or earcandys.

  • Sounds so awesome !

    I'm planning on buying a Cobra !

How does the Framus cab compare to the mesa?

  • Thanks!

The Framus cab is MADE for the Cobra. The Cobra sounds like junk through the Mesa. Also, when you get the Cobra, make sure to bias it to around 35ma, it makes a HUGE difference.

  • Thanks for the advice!!

    What tubes do you have?

  • JJ KT77s.

  • That sounds fucking great.

  • that amp is amazing.

how much did you pay for that head?

  • got the head for $1,500 used.

  • i jsut bought a framus cobra man. thanks for helping me with my decision!

  • Grats man! Hope to see a vid of it soon!

  • I just bought a mesa rectifier oversized slant cab. its freaking huge

  • lol thats funny...cause i am also a drummer, and that guitar your playing was my first guitar. its sitting 3 feet away from me right now. haha and i like to play the same stuff. are you my brother??? not to mention that i found your video cause i am heavily considering getting a framus cobra. wierd...

  • Haha, weird indeed.. If you're like me, you'll love the Cobra!

  • just 1 last question man cause u seem to know your shit. if i were to choose between a framus cobra or a hughes and kettner triamp(the first one not mkii) which one do you think is better?

  • Depends what you are going for. If versatility is on the very top of your list, then the triamp > Cobra. If it's raw, tight, open sounding distortion you're going for, Cobra hands down.

  • i like playing killswitch stuff but also like a mix of a skylit drive and bless the fall stuff. thanks a bunch for your help!

  • for metal , get the Cobra hands down. For rock and versatility, get triamp.

  • That part at 2:00 is pretty sweet

  • does the cobra hold its own at higher volumes? i want one lol

  • High Volume is where is excels. It's one of those amps that don't sound that great at low volumes but AWESOME at higher volumes. This is medium volume in this vid.

  • your neighbours must hate you....

  • Yeah.. we aren't best of friends...

  • hey how do you like that framus cab compared to the mesa cab? i know the framus are loaded with greenbacks and the mesa are loaded with vintage 30's? I currently play dual rectifiers through vintage 30's... im just wondering how my tone would differ if i used greenbacks. thanks

  • Framus cab > Mesa cab by far for my cobra. The greenies cut through the mix better and has much stronger, punchier, focused mids. The mesa with V30s fills the room better but has much less focus mids.

  • Great sound. If you have the emg 81 in the bridge, swap the 85 in there instead, the emg 81 sucks with the cobra

  • Thanks! funny you should say that.. I JUST did that switch 10 mins before your comment and it does sound LOADS better, much more organic and less brittle and fizzy.

  • could you even get a round tone from a vht and does a vht even sound big in person

  • the UL was a ultra smooth and round sounding amp, so yes you can.. the tricky part is to get a nice crunchy tone. The sound of the VHT isn't really BIG as compared to the Engl SE, it is more like a heavy directional punch (which is good in a band situation since that means it cuts through the mix well).

  • so what do you like better about framus and engl over VHT UL

  • simple.. VHT was just TOO dry and smooth for my taste. It is amazing in for what it does, just not my cup of tea.

  • Hey drummerboy how do you like the greenback cab vs v30 cab with the cobra head?? Thanks!

  • Greenies all the way with the Cobra. Much much thicker and punchier then the V30s, which sound very thin and fragile with the Cobra. If people are playing the Cobra through V30s... they haven't experienced the Cobra at all IMO.

  • Thanks for the reply man! I agree!

Also, how do you think the cobra sounds at lower volumes?

  • Sounds "good" at lower volumes, great at medium, and I have not had a chance to crank it yet! hopefully I will soon..

  • Hey man, these are my friends settings. If you have a maxon od808, use these settings on channel 2 and use the maxon od808 as a clean boost.

    Gain 1:00

    Bass 11:00

    Mids 1:00

    Presence 9:00

    Treble 11:00

    Ch Vol 2:00

    Deep 1:00

  • thanks for the settings, if I get my hands on a od808 I'll be sure to try it out.

  • How do you get all these maps?

  • buy and sell used gear on craig's list =)
